Yanks got rid of the two biggest jerkoffs on their roster they didnt need and got young pitching back for them. Great deals by Cashman. It really opens up good options for them in either future trades or developing a solid pitching pipeline. Their system is loaded with pitching right now, its fantastic. No position players, but you can always buy those. When you look at the total BS market for pitchers these days these are GREAT deals

I agree, and the prospects we got for sheff was amzaing, that Humberto sanches kid is supposed to be a stud. good riddance to randy who is on the decline in a serious way, and sheff was a playoff dud, even during his days in Atlanta..

great deals by cashman.. two big jerks gone!

still don't understand the pettite signing for $16 mil...but that's a steinbrenner move through and through.

probably should've went after lilly but whatever. all i know is that when the new stadium is open, we got some nice young players to put out there.
look at the market. Look at what Zito (not an elite pitcher) got, look at what Boston paid for Kamakazi whatever. Look at what douchebags like Gil Meche and Lilly got.

Pettitte is a prove postseason performer and its a short term deal. This isnt a 6 year Isiah type contract. Pettite's #'s look worse than they are because his first half was terrible. Look at his 2nd half numbers. Also he's been healthy for 2 years.

Its a better signing between the #s then you realize. And of course he's Andy, and we know he fits with Joe, Derrick, Mo, Giambi, etc. etc.

great post fish, and it is also a great stop gap move until guys like Phillip Hughes are ready...

Yanks can ALWAYS buy position players. There will always be an Abreu or a Chuck Knob or whatever we need. Pitching is a different story. They finally learned their lesson I think. Instead of throwing money at jerks like Randy and Wright they are pumping arms in that farm system.

I would take it a step further and move Matsui to the Dodgers, who have ZERO offense. They have some good young pitchers also. Maybe a combo of Billingley and Broxton. They have a couple other kids.. Mike Megrew and Greg Miller who have good MLB stuff. That would make a lot of sense for both clubs. Matsui give them a stud bat which they are desperate for. Then you just make Melky the everyday LF and resign Bernie to be the 4th outfielder.

With ARod, Jeter, Abreu, Damon, Giambi, Posada and Cano they still have a NASTY line up. That LA deal could give them a Detroit like pitching staff in the next couple of years.

Don't forget about Matsui too.
After coming back from the wrist injury, he hit .412 with .484 OBP and .608 SLG.

I hope the new guy Igawa will pitch decently. He is known as a real hardworker in Japan and posted some good #s.

w/all the new prospects attained in the Sheffield, Randy & Jaret Wright trades, i fully expect Cashman to make a full on press to get Dontrelle Willis at the trading deadline next season... throw in a signed Roger Clemens to the rotation & u better get some champagne cooling on ice around here come October!

i could be wrong but i'm pretty sure Matsui has a no trade clause in his contract... & even if he didn't, i don't see the Yankees trading this guy... he's literally a cash cow for them (as if they needed yet another one)... the capital this guy generates from overseas sponsors & advertising is ridiculous.

That's a good point. They have enough prospects to pursue a Cy Young calibre pitcher and still have good prospects left over. I wasn't really thinking about it like that when I said the RJ trade wouldn't help the team in the short-term (this season).

Yes, unfortunately, Matsui has a full no-trade clause. But it does make incredible sense to trade him. I prefer Melky out in LF. And we can get something very substantial for Matsui. Face it: We would not miss Matsui's offense a bit with our lineup.

i wonder if Matsui could be converted to playing 1B? his work ethic & professionalism are a good influence on the younger players coming up through the system, & he's the most clutch hitter on this team... i wouldn't look to unload him just to clear up playing time for Melky (i prefer Melky's defense out in LF tho, i agree)... unless of course you can trade Jason Giambi & move Matsui into the DH role... but Giambi's got a full no trade too, which he's already refused to waive this season, so we're pretty much stuck w/his contract.

When do Giambi's and Matsui's contracts run out? Perhaps the Yankees learned a little lesson in recent times. Don't give players no trade clauses or aquire players who already have them.

Giambi still has 2 more years left on his deal i believe... Matsui just signed an extension before last season, so he probably has about 3 or 4 more years left on his.

definitely tho, the Yankees have learned their lesson on giving out NTC's on longterm contracts... i don't think you'll see them doing that anymore unless it's for a stud in his prime like Santana (just giving an example)
