Work out the wrinkles, so you are saying there is a foundation then??
No, I'm not saying theres a foundation. Theres a few players who are decent but there is yet to be a player to build around. When I say work out the wrinkles, I'm saying trading either Frye or Lee for wingman who we can have on this team for the next 10 years. I have 0 confidence in Isiah Thomas making the correct trade in getting that wing. We also are stuck with Curry as the player to build around, even though he's not good enough to build around(thanks to Isiah,) so whatever the new GM does is going to have to either find someone to take Curry and get back prospects or either somehow work his way to getting a franchise player to build around in a multiple player trade. I'm not saying I don't like Curry and that he's not a good offensive player but I don't think he's good enough to build around because he only plays one side of the ball.
Right now there is no foundation but the team clearly needs to improve and the Knicks have a few players that are movable in Frye and Lee and they can be moved for a young wing who we might be able to build around. As I said, I have no confidence in Isiah making the right trade.

Your last sentence says it all: We cannot trade Lee, and maybe not even Frye, because Isiah will screw up the deal and we will end up regretting it.
Your point is well taken that Lee is a very good player, but is not someone you build around. He's like Oakley was. Oakley was exaclty what we needed back in the day. But do you build around Oakley? Of course not. You add Oakley to a front line that has a franchise center like Ewing, and suddenly you become a very good team.
But while we clearly do not have our Ewing for Lee to complement, to allow Isiah to trade Lee would only be asking for trouble. This is why I would hold onto Lee, Curry and Frye, for the time being anyway.
This way, when our new GM arrives, he will have some pieces to work with.
