Luke Altenburg - Fairfax, VA: What kind of player do you think Trevor Ariza can become? This kid reminds me of Tracy McGrady. Are we seeing the future in Orlando with three 21 year olds in Howard, Milicic, and Ariza?

David Thorpe: (12:09 PM ET ) I love Trevor-maybe the best pure athlete in the league. Can be a great defender, but excels in transition too.

Thing is, Balkman could probably be getting those kind of numbers too, if given the burn. But Isiah has too many higher priced acquisitions to justify.

Blueseats, I agree 100%, but it was his idiot boss that gave him the one year ultimatum, so what would you do? we are just bad from the top Blue, BAD!!

I agree, though I think everyone in the organization knows that Dolan wants Isiah back and it's his job to lose. "Significant improvement" is so vague and can be reached through so many means. Beating 23 wins is no difficult task. Players not quitting on him might suffice, as could just not ripping the team thru the media.

Dolan has his objectives, we all know that, but all Isiah's had to better is "the worst GM of all time" and "the worst coaching performance of all time," and he's had an unlimited budget, and he holds all the cards in the process. Few in the league are ever set up better to succeed!

that is a good point. the significant Improvemnt statement is so vague. It could mean a number of things. I think Dolan had to look tough but also leave himself some wiggle room, that is why he made such a vague statement IMO.. either way he is not fooling the fans, but as you know we always pay the price for their ineptitude. I am getting tired tho.

Ariza sat last season after the trade. perhaps if there were leaders like Jameer Dwight and Grant Hill on the Knicks, Ariza may have developed here into the player he is becoming there. I recall reading articles over the summer about him hitting the gym with his Magic teammates. But nope he was subjected to Bentley-bury and that feeling of entitlement.

I know, really. I was a big Ariza fan, hell I still wear my 21 Ariza jersey, but for God sakes, move on. I'll take Balkman over Ariza, no problem.

Everyone knows LB called Ariza delusional.
Everyone knows Isiah 'reached' to draft Trevor and did well to do so.

So why do people like MS believe Isiah would want to throw away Trevor? Gosh... its like logic doesn't enter into your minds if all you can think about is spilt milk. Babies have been known to be more reasonable.

It was lovable Larry who greased the skids for Ariza's departure and got his own skids greased with his MSG-taconic power play. Everyone pertending otherwise is a Larry-phile.

Don Chaney begged for certain type of players and Isiah never acquired them. He instead fired Chaney. Lenny begged Isiah to keep his squad together and Isiah traded them away and then fired Lenny. All of a sudden LB comes to town and Isiah has lost his free will to decide who he trades and who he doesn't.

Let's say it was Isiah's move-Dumb move

If it was LB's move-Dumb move made to satisfy the moment again foregoing any long term strategical thinking.

Either way it just goes to show. We never have a plan for building a team. Slap some people on a roster and hope it works.

Don Chaney?? Isiah basically game Don 15 minutes to pack up after he was brought in. No GM owes a damn thing to a coach they inherited and who was only around for 15 games.

Bippity, you know a GM has to listen to the Coach but doesn't have to do as the coach wants. LB was a bad hire. He was larger than life and a threat to Isiah. Isiah had to make him happy and the result were some dubious moves.

WE know Isiah was the GM.. yes, but we're also smart enough, i think we are, to see that it was a joint move at best and an all LB move at worst.

Larry asked for Eric Snow and Theo Ratliff, amongst others of his previous players and didn't get one of them. All the sudden he asks for Steve Francis and Isiah gets him? I doubt it. Even before the Francis trade there was trail of sh!t deals that leads right to Isiah Thomas as GM and President of the New York Knicks. The Steve Francis deal was just another one.

It wasn't just that he asked for Francis. Don't forget, Ariza was the other half of the trade. Do you not believe that LB asked Isiah to "delete" Ariza?

Why would LB want Francis? To replace Marbury. He wanted Ariza out and he wanted a replacement for Marbury so he could "delete" Marbury. That makes sense when we look at the context does it not?

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

who cares who wanted what, isiah, if he had balls, could've held his ground, but instead he dealt ariza and know we're left with a gimpy PG and a stud SF on a rival team in conference.

isiah sucks, no way around it, GET RID OF THIS BUM!

I honestly cannot believe that you guys are dumb. I can't. You are smart. Which is why then, i'm having trouble with why you've seem to have 'forgotten' (better word) that LB was the reason for Steve Francis coming here. If your'e going to post about Ariza get your facts straight on why the deal was made.

Ask yourself: WHY WOULD ZEKE BRING IN FRANCIS if he already had Marbury?

There's so much wrong with this statement i don't know where to start. I'll just point out how naive of a basketball view it is.

I remember a story, but it was knicks fans calling Ariza a bum, crazy, delusional for turning down going to the summer league................. was it at the bottom of that story?????

Ask yourself: WHY WOULD BROWN ASK FOR FRANCIS WHEN MARBURY WAS ALREADY HERE?

Thats fine oohah, I realize that this is going to be disputed on this forum for a long time and I don't think anyone will ever know who is right.

Personally, I just can't believe that with the type of coach that Brown is that he would want to have Francis on this team. I'm not ruling out the possibility that Brown could have ok'ed a Francis deal but I just dont think he would have wanted Francis on this team. Between that and Isiah's terrible trade-history and always wanting to make a big splash, I believe he wanted Francis and he made the trade.

To be honest, Isiah Thomas spins and can talk his way out of a paper bag........ when Francis was traded for all he had to say was," maybe it's crazy enough to work". Now you can Isiah alot of things, a Snake, a lair, smug, over confident.........ect. If Isiah wanted this trade, "Maybe it's crazy enough to work" is not what Isiah would come up with. Cite Jerome James, Balkman and Jared Jeffries.
