Does it matter? Suspend him for the year, who cares. What Melo did doesn't absolve Mardy and Nate for starting and then escalating this brawl.

I see both sides here. Mardy's foulto me, was bad, a definate Flagrant (2,1,whichever the more serious one is). But he didn't grab him totally around the neck and he did hold up right after he made contact. I seriosuly don't think he meant to hurt him but foul him hard and it just was a very bad way to do it.

When it comes to everything else, Mardy was not ready to fight. He wasn't going to-he was standing there taking the ish JR was yelling at him. He kept his head up and that was that. JR was pissed and screaming at him but I have seen that many many times before in the NBA.

Nate overreacted grabbing Smith the way he did. That was uncalled for,the ref (Bavetta,none the less) was in there already between the two. Nate escalated this at the begining and him posing and all his "I wanna fight, come on I'll take you" posturing didn't help bring down the animosity.

The only good I can think of is Dolan says enough is enough and fires Isiah. However, since he already gave Isiah the green light for the rest of the season, we know that won't happen. You're right. This is not something this organization needed, but this is the kind of thing that happens on a bad team that's so poorly constructed, coaches by Satan, and ran poorly. Add a lot of young kids to the fray who *like* to fight, and you see what happens.

I don't care if the Knicks win all the rest of their games (ok, maybe that would be nice), this fight never should've happened. It's embarrassing and sad. Totally humiliating to watch your team lose a blowout and then act like a bunch of classless posers. It's so stupid when people try to act tough on a basketball court. Great players (and people) keep their emotions in check and harnass that energy for the sport.

Also, totally classless by Karl leaving the starters in and Melo for suckerpunching Mardy. They deserve whatever they got coming to em as well.

But where was Eddy to punch someone in Balls when you need him to?

Actually I watched it again...Nate started a lot of this.

Andrew, I paid particular attention to Nate. It looked like for about 1 seconds, he tried to play an extremely angry peacemaker and then he let his emotions completely take over him. He added feul to the fire.

Okay, he was about to jump, but both Mardy's hands went under JR's chin - it was a total clothesline. And it was clearly premeditated. It was a dirty play.

did any of you watch that youtube of the hard foul on dwayne wade yet? And you want mardy done for the year?

Melo sucker punched mardy collins after everything had died down.

I felt the same way.

WTF was that punk "punch and backpedal" move Melo pulled? It was all over and he pulls a soft stunt like that.
If he felt that he just had to swing on Mardy, he should have stood his ground when Jared came at him.

Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

yep...I have to say, I was at a christmas party and watched it as it happened and was happy it did.

Then saw it on espn motion and heard it on the espnradio, and it's almost blown over...they do mention nate and melo a bunch.

Melo is done for the year (calendar year, he'll be back in January) and I think Nate and JR will get the same amount of time, no matter how you look at it, JR dove at nate and knocked him into the crowd.

I just find it tough to find too much fault in this other than there was a fight and Melo sucker punched one of our players.

This is nowhere near artest and wasn't there a fight already this year?
