i agree with giving IT the rest of the season to work with. firing him because of one first half, however disgusting, would be unfair. but end of the season, we'll see what dolan's apology really means. is he really willing to finally bust up this festering organization, or is he just telling us what we want to hear?

i'm counting down the days.

I think Dolan's learned his lesson. A while back, he was a quick fix guy - give out a few big contracts and fill some seats. But he has changed his strategy with the Rangers and is in the process of doing it with the Knicks. He's doing what he should have done from the beginning - go young and build for the future. It takes patience, but it's a good strategy.

If we are going young, we need to stop trading young players and draft picks. At that point I will agree that it has been a change of philosophy.

WE have signed so many guys that we have just cut or put on our bench that it is borderline amazing. Imagine where this team would be if we had committed to youth years ago instead of starphuching(nalod). It's so sad, but this is where we are so pray things have changed

Bippity - how do you commit to yoot with what was inherited?

you can't simply cut everybody, or can you?

most of our good guys are under 28 years old anyway

I think Dolan is still pissed by the Francis trade. That I believe is the set back he is talking about.

By not adding salary and sticking with your draft picks. We are only now committing to youth because another failed star phuch move would be devestating. AFter 6 years as an organization we are finally committing to what was obvious the day Patrick retired. This isn't about Layden or Isiah, this is about an organization that has refused to make the commitment. Instead they go about stockpiling "assets" that don't fit into any plan and aren't going to be used for anything either.

What I've found on this site because I tend to harp on the same things over and over again is very interesting. In June and July guys are calling me a Net fan for my point of view. Then in November and December they are echoing exactly what I said in June and July and using that opinion as their own. Kind of like what Earl did in one of his other posts today. This is the most sincere form of flattery. I do notice this, and I do appreciate the compliment despite the tough guy stance in June and July.

I dont' think we necessarily have to trade Frye but I don't think we take him off the board either. I think what we need to do is something we haven't done since Ewing left, and that is decide on a direction. And by direction I don't mean "add young players". What I mean is figure out who we are building around. Don't build around one core, then trade it away and then build around another core and then trade it away and then build around another. I mean do what we thought LB was going to do last year. Decide on who our key players are. Decide which players on the roster compliment those key players. Decide who is serious about winning basketball. Anyone that does not fit this core whether we like them, or they are great players or not should be on the table if we can find players that can make our team more balanced. Our problem is not talent, it is balance. We should not fear trading talent to create balance. This feeling that we must keep players on a roster that is struggling to reach .500 needs to be eradicated.

That being said. I like Frye. Despite his slow start I am still a big fan. I want the guy to grow with us, but if we can balance this team he should be considered in a trade.

Bip, he problem is that is seems like we aren't even gonna be making any trades anytime soon. Heck, Isiah apparently hasn't even placed a bid for Allen Iverson (Not that I think he'd be a good fit fo the team.)

I also agree on your assessment about Frye, but I still think it comes down to the Marbury and Francis situation. I don't think either player has played close to what we need them to play. We need THEM to be our leaders and our go to guys and they haven't come close to that, although Francis has been Vocal, but big deal. I think while it's important to follow that direction you mention, it's also important to figure out a way to jettison Franbury.

allanfan: I'm on board with you. I think Francis has been a breath of fresh air this year. I think Marbs is struggling mentally but I think he can be salvaged(by Isiah only). I like the effort from Craw and Nate and would hate to see either of them go. But our backcourt all has the same strengths and weaknesses. So we need to jettison at least one, most likely 2 of these guys to gain some sort of balance in the backcourt. It is the quickest way to getting this team to the playoffs. I just think as an organization we are afraid to make a mistake.

Or admit to our mistakes. Getting rid of Marbury or Francis isn't even giving up on them. I kinda like Francis's attitude this year and Marbury is working his butt off. I am not denying that. However, it just can't work. Neither player can take over. Both players want others, even if they are inferior in talent, to carry the load in crunchtime. Neither can run a team, and neither are good at feeding Curry, unless it's a rare flashy alley oop. I think Q and Crawford at the best at that, and even Crawford make a lot of TOs doing that. And their defense is just too spotty. If you're gonna have a backcourt with a bad defensive player, then you need to pair him up with a guy who is really good on D. That's why I've been begging for Q to start at the 2.

I personally think you gotto get rid of both Marbs and Francis, for more important team needs and continue building through the draft. But if you can get rid of one, it helps a lot too.
