Isiah Tanking the Season on Purpose?

Maybe he wants to get fired. I mean he got two technicals in a critical moment of a game. His rotations are weird. He won't give major minutes into "future all-stars" (as quoted on this board) like David Lee, unless he has to, due to injuries. He doesn't call enough plays from the bench, to keep his immature players heads in the game. He plays overpaid players, despite that they may not be the best options. He never says anything of substance to the media, and never admits fault. He complains to the media about his players not trying hard enough. He has a terrible record, even though he was supposed to be the "perfect coach" for this team. Maybe he's doing it just for the money? Is he tanking the season on purpose?
Yes (Worst coach ever; maybe even worse than Larry Brown)
No (I love Isiah, and he'll turn it around)
Undecided (I have no opinion, because I'm now a Lakers fan)

I can't beleive that people are okay with the fact that we are a coutrywide laughingstock. What slack has he earned is the question of the day.

Thats what happens when you like someone more than you like your favorite time. It's sad really.

If there were only more who thought like Bip....

Isiah would weasel himself out of that one too and blame the explosion on the knick fans.

If only. I will say one thing Isiah has done a tremendous job of. Lowering the standards of the average Knick fan. Give us 35 wins, no D and a playoff spot and the guy will be given a friggin parade. He has lowered our standards into the toilet. He is a survivor and has done a tremendous job in this regard.

How many GMs were going to have a better record with the pieces we started with?
Had we blown it all up, we'd be the same or worse record-wise.

you think that no matter what we did 3 years ago we'd still have crashed as one of the worst teams in the league, and in franchise history?

Wow.

I love how everyone says now "I can't answer any of these because the poll is loaded" just because they don't agree with the poll. I don't see how the poll is loaded, the choices are clear cut and there is a choice for everyone.

By the way, I agree with you Solace and Blue, it seems to me that Isiah gets alot more slack and undeservedly. I just can't see how he can get some slack when he's 92-146, thats a whopping .386 winning % as the head of this franchise. Doesn't make much sense to me.

Isiah gets slack????? Where...The Knicks are down three to the Nets in the loss column...You hear nothing about the GM or Coach of the Nets who by the way has had a better team than the knicks for quite some time now....If Isiah gets a break, how is it Lawrence Frank name has never made a back page in this town...

[Edited by - holfresh on 12-08-2006 2:15 PM]

Isiah gets slack from a group of posters on this board was the point of the word of the word "slack" sorry I didn't make that more clear. You are one of the posters that cuts him slack at every turn and if you want to argue with the 92-146 record he has as head of this franchise, go ahead and try it but you won't get far.

Let me explain why I give Isiah "slack"....If anyone had asked me during the Layden era that I would have a Center who will more that likely give me 20 and 9 in three years...2 PF competing for a starting spot that can arguably give you a double double with playing time any night.....A player like Q and we have this to build with...I would say where do I sign...I would support this movement wholeheartedly...These guys are 26 and under...The 3 key pieces are 23 and under....When they learn the game they are going to be awesome....I know the Knicks cant win this season and maybe not the next...But most here are expecting Glory overnight, life and basketball doesn't work that way....Bip really surprises me....But hey I'm a realist...

LOL!

He should be beating out Otis Smith(Magic GM) for Exec. of the Year honors for lowering expectations and tickets sales. The fans weren't actually chanting "Fire Thomas" the other night, they were chanting "Extend Thomas"

You keep harping on this point "people expect glory overnight" when there aren't people on this forum who expect glory overnight. It doesn't make much sense.

Isiah has done a decent job in bringing in young talent but he's been here for 3 years and there still is no franchise player, although the team is has been in the lottery for 2 of those years. Isiah has had problems bringing in similar talent and pieces that don't fit together, as well as piled onto the payroll. There is no way he should be rewarded for those shortcomings.

And now he wants to blame the fans for booing? He's an egotistical ******* who only does things that will benefit himself.

Glory overnight???

This is what I've seen.

1.) A 23 win season in which the matchup between coach and players was so bad that we became a nightly punchline.

2.) Led one coach out with security guards

3.) Two hall of fame coaches left on a horrible note

4.) Most of the players he has brought in are gone in under 2 years, no matter how he brings them here

5.) No tv appearances for a NY based franchise

6.) Making trades for assets that he then pulls a 180 on and cuts a year or two later.

7.) Free-agent signings that sign long-term contracts and don't play

8.) Did I mention we are a laughingstock.

9.) Gone backwards since his arrival

I could go on and on but my brain is not at full capacity right now. He has done some good things. I'm not a hater. I respect the young talent that he's brought in. But I would much rather have a different GM here to build around this young talent. With the trade deadline fast approaching and the heat bearing down on Isiah what are the guarantees that he won't make another blockbuster deal for "assets" that will be gone in a year. Again, I like the young guys but that does not dismiss what he haas done to the image of this franchise. You cannot win this way. I'll give him a shot as a coach but as GM, how this guy still has a job is beyond me.

I honestly think the peopole that cut him slack do so because they pretend last year didn't exist or it was all LB's fault. While the rest of the fans are still booing because of what we saw last year has continued to this day.

Solace - do you spend time dreaming up the most ridiculous specualtion you can imagine or do you really believe an executive would deliberately fail at any given job?

Why?

what evidence of a "tank job" can you cite?

I'm not calling you out or anything.. just find it odd your saying this now when I didn't hear you saying that to the people who claimed last years coach deliberately failed at his given job.

nyk4ever - last season there was empirical evidence with the arbitrary starting lineups, benching of David Lee and the "home town" auditions

what evidence of a "tank job" can you cite THIS season?

hm, i just assumed that solace was trying to make a point about how bad the knicks really are, and that during the last couple of seasons people were just making excuses for them, by suggesting that its even possible that isiah might be tanking the season. was i wrong?

LMAO Yeah sure you are.

If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System
