I became a Knicks fan because my mother was a huge knicks fan and would always sit me on the couch next to her when I was younger to watch the games with her. The first games I can remember is from the early early 90s(yeah yeah I know I know, I havent suffered as long, I'm about to turn 24) when I was about 8 years old.

1969, My first real experience at watching basketball was the Knicks playoff run and championship. I was just staring to watch sports on TV, to care about watching. I am from Louisiana and had family in the Bronx so I guess I kind of adopted The Knicks and the Miracle Mets at about the same time. Louisiana had no basketball or baseball teams and the Saints were consumate losers. The first football game I watched was the Cowboys and Giants, the Cowboys won and they became my team, if the Giants had won, I'd probably have been a Giants fan also. I was a kid, that's how I chose teams. I have been a hardcore fan since 1969.

I became a knicks fan after cutting myself and smoking rat poison got boring. The truest masochist is the biggest knicks fan.

Being that I was born and and raised in NY helped obviuosly. But Bernard King did it for me. He came and went through the Garden it seems like a Tornado. It was over so fast. I was young (10-11) when he was the King of NY, and I really didn't get a chance to appreciate his game like I would now of course.

Then Pitino's Knicks took me to another level. I absolutely loved that team and there style of play.

As I grew and started to watch and understand the games I evolved more to my home team of the Knicks.

nice idea for a thread, given our sorry state.

I guess I always liked the sound of the name, Knicks, and the way the new york crowd roars when they do well.

I came in during the Mark Jackson, Gerald Wilkins, Ewing and Rick Pitino era.

First I was a Mets fan, and I was shopping for a basketball team. naturally, the other blue and orange team in town was a perfect fit.

When we had Oakley and Mason and Starks is when I really fell for the team. Though I really think the Camby, Sprewell team that took out the Pacers to get to the finals was my favorite.

I use to be a 76er fan because of Dr. J. But slowly I began to root for the KNicks. Especially when Bernard King was on. Drafting Pat Ewing well that pretty much put me over the top and rooting for the 76ers was history.

At age 4-5, i used to listen to the Last championship Knick team with my dad on the radio with Marv. Back then it was a treat for the Knicks to be on TV. Jim Karvellas used to call the games with Cal Ramsey.

They are in my blood. That is why this Knick team hurts. The talent is there, but the hustle and character of those teams is gone.

I'm a New Yorker so being a Knick fan was a given...but I remember when the Knicks drafted Ewing and all the hoopla that came with it. That's when I started noticing and paying attention to them...but I was still to young to care (10y/o).

I started to get more into College Basketball and St. Johns..so when the Knicks drafted M.Jackson in '87, I went nuts and been with them 100% ever since

First playoff series I ever watched was Knicks/Bulls in 92/93. next season I watched every game and they of course made it to Game 7 in the Finals and I was hooked.

whoa... 99 was not a fluke. The Spurs capitolized on a Knick team minus Ewing, and with a broken LJ. If we had Ewing for the 25 miunutes a night he was playing at a high level for thats a different series. Also we went to the ECF the following year before falling in a long series to the Pacers. What should have happened was after 2000 the Knicks should have realized they didnt have a championship core with LJ/Ewing being done and they should have traded Houston or Sprewell for some young talent. Deal with some potential losing seasons and rebuild around Camby and young guys. Camby may have been made of glass but thats an OK thing when your rebuilding. 2-3 years later we could have been back in it, especially when you look at the drafts post 2000

I love that 99 team, but sometimes I think the fall out of it really killed us - management thought that Camby/Spree/Houston core was better than it was and didn't realize how much of that run was LJ and Pat. We could've rebuilt then, but really overvalued and overpaid Spree and Houston.

I remember the "Ernie and Bernie" show in Tennesee! Great tandem. Bernard was troubled young man but got his act together in ny! Great story his maturation!

Listening to him talk about the privilage of playing before his parents every nite and the pride was nice to hear.

I thought Marbury would follow this path.
