I posted this on another thread but it pertains to this one:
That being said he seems to be a headcase. I went to the Celts game this past Saturday and since the game itself was UGLY (save for the first few minutes) I started to focus on Marbury. There were a ton of posessions that went like this:
Crawford brings up the ball. Passes to Marbury. Marbury passes it to someone else.
For the rest of the shot clock it's Nate and Crawford repeatedly driving and dishing to each other with Marbury standing on the opposite side of the court. Completely still. So much for the motion offense.
I watched this happen and lost count of how many possessions went by with what looked like Marbury being completely frozen out of the offense. Maybe there's something going on in the locker room that hasn't come out yet. I thought everything had been relatively smoothed over after watching Q and Marbury interact during one of our wins.
I know there are people on this board who watch every single minute of every game.[b] Is this phenomenon of Marbury standing around on offense something that has been consitently happening? How does a player go downhill so quickly?[b]
He's never moved well off the ball, nor has he been asked to much. but he's never used the entirety of the floor well either, even when on the ball. he's lived largely in the paint, and occasionally on the perimeter, but his perimeter passing is typically more reliant on floor spacing and players being in predictable spots rather than movement.
In short, for the most part marbury operates best in simple sets that depend on his ball domination to shift the defense to create an opening wherein he can pass to a player in a predictable position. Too much unpredictability, which requires good anticipation and court vision, often throws off his game. and he almost never has any verve in his step when he's in the role of distributor or SG. He's most peppy when he's being offensively aggressive (looking for his own shot) with the ball in his hands.
