you know when it comes to zeke and marbs as well, i really don't care if they speak crap to the press if they would just win. this franchise is a sad floundering joke, so zeke's words just look that much more idiotic. if he had delvered on his words, and brought us a viable and winning franchise, i would pay no attention to anything he said to the press. i'd just applaud him like crazy.

Isiah's defense of Curry is exactly what coaches are suppose to do. Protect the team and protect the player. The alternative is to throw the player under the bus and we see how well that went last year.
Other examples of this is Pop defending Bowen down is San Antonio. Is he suppose to say, "yeah my player has borderline dirty tactics". No.
Today I read (hoopshype) Van Gundy is saying no McGrady hasn't lost a step and is as dangerous as always. Why is he saying this? Because it's protecting his team and McGrady. To want Isiah to do any less for his players is off base IMHO. We all want Curry to play up to his capabilities.

Not one of those coaches compared their player's to a legend of the team they play for, much less comparing him to guys who are all-stars on other teams.

Bowen is a 2 time champion and McGrady is still an elite player. There's nothing wrong with defending Curry. "Curry will be fine. He's still young but he'll be where we expect him to be real soon." What would have been wrong with saying that? Instead, a Piston comes into OUR HOUSE, brings in a crappy player and $hi*s on our team by comparing that crappy player to one of our top 2 players to play for the franchise.

Bowen plays hard. Isnt that what people attack Curry for? Does anyone talk about his failure to develop a jumper or better passing skills? Its always the same. Eddie looks fat. Eddie looks tired. Eddie doesnt work hard on defense. Eddie doesnt work hard on the glass. Eddie doesnt work hard.

I've heard plenty of coaches say a guy is out of shape. Didnt Pop say just that about JAckie? That he's learning to prepare at a championship level and different expectations than what he's been used to in the past?

LOL, the post/threads do increase after loses............ I know everybody is beating down Curry from every angle and it's easy to do right now(prediction= next there will a "how dare curry shake Ewings hand" thread), but I believe he will come threw. IT's a 82 game season... time will tell.

But to the point of the thread, when is a player not compared to the greats???? Marbury and Francis could be like Walt and Pearl or Dumars and Isiah, are things Isiah and even Brown said. Balkman reminds Isiah of Rodman and Artest. Pepople do it all the time, Hell there is a thread in here that says does balkman look like Scottie Pippen!!!! Why???? Because Pippen is someone people remember because he is an great. THe thread didn't ask, " Does balkman look like SAR" LOL.

isiah told curry he needs to play more "manly". that lasted 3 games.
now he's back in his comfort zone. the kid just don't get it.

in instances like this, a life altering event must take place to change one's behavior drastically. that could be a death, a birth, an illness or something of similar significance. dude is 23, has a $60 mil deal and has zero incentive to change as a person. this is all on him. isiah rolled the dice and so far, nothing but snake eyes.

Walt and Francis were great players but they are not on the same level as guys like Willis and Ewing. In the Knicks hierarchy, Willis and Patrick are on the top and both personified the warrior mentality that exists in New York. I also think a big part is everything Ewing brought to this team and he never was able to give us a championship, through no real fault of his own. He was surrounded by what some loosely would consider a championship team for 3 years from 93 to 95. After that, the teams were good but never on championship level. Willis was surrounded by All-Time greats and won 2 championships here (69 and 72, right?).

Also Rodman and Artest will never be considered legends.

Ewing at 23? 21 pts, 9 rebs, 2 blocks. 2nd year in the league.

I find 90% of what Isiah says insulting. Actually I think he is a scary person....someone who would never admit a mistake no matter how small it is.

Sounds like someone else on this squad - and I'll leave it at that.

Semantics. Alot of people don't like Curry right now, which is fine because he is play bad right now, but bashing him or Isiah on this is kind of childish. Especially went you know the coach does it all the time(Frye=Duncan-Garnett) and everybody compares players in this manner. NO matter how good or bad or liked.

Also, when breaking down the 50th greatest list I have never hear anyone put Ewing or Reed higher on the list then Pearl and Walt............... but I know what you mean.

Anji... again, I think your missing the point. People are attacking Curry's effort and preparation.

As bad as Frye has been the reaction has a much different feel dont you think? Frye plays hard, tries hard and is in great shape. My knock has always been he's not a PF, and will never be a PF, and will continue to struggle until he moves back to his natural position. But Frye cant control all those things.

Curry is fat. He's tired. He doesnt play hard all the time. After 6 years in the league he's not getting better.

Its hard to like and get behind a guy that loafs.

No those are very good points and I hope over the course of the season he continues to improve. Has nothing to with if Isiah compares him in passing to an Immortale an Legend or an allstar. I understand people don't like him and want the trade back, but this is just piling on in my eyes. I mean how many ways do you need to nitpick to say you don't like him and want the trade, would be my basic point.

I think you are really a big fan of Curry, and he has some amazing potential. But he is horrible when it comes to effort. It really is an insult to Ewing.

I don't remember too many 23-year-olds coming in and dominating, regardless of how long they've been in the league.

Lew Alcindor, Age 23, 2nd Season
31.7 & 16

Okay, maybe I shot to high.

Bill Cartwright, Age 23, 2nd Season
20.1 & 7.5

Okay let's try someone fatter:

Wes Unseld, Age 23, 2nd Season
16.2 & 16.7

Whoa there, that's too phat.

Jermaine O'Neal, Age 23, 6th Season
19 & 10.5 (his breakout year)
Age 22, 5th Season:
13 & 10

Bryant Reeves, Age 23, 2nd Season
16.2 & 8.2
(hey this guy was good at one time)

Willis Reed, Age 23, 2nd Season
15.5 & 11.6
(the lowest numbers of his first 7 years)

I think I found the range:

Rick Smits, Age 23, 2nd Season
15.5 & 6.1
(just about his career averages too)

Erick Dampier, Age 23, 2nd Season
11.8 & 8.7 (& 1.5 blocks)

Marcus Camby, Age 23, 2nd Season
12.1 & 7.1 (& 3.8 blocks)

Others with worse numbers, though most of these were considered defensive centers or slugs.

Elden Campbell, Age 23, 2nd Season
7.1 & 5.2

Greg Ostertag, Age 23, 2nd Season
7.3 & 7.7 (+ 2 blocks)

Theo Ratliff, Age 23, 2nd Season
5.8 & 3.4
(though always known as a defender, and had over 1.5 blocks per)

Seriously, bad move by Isiah. He's trying to soothe the NY fans with this Curry/Ewing comparison. What he doesn't take into account is that NY fans had the utter, shocking stupidity to stoop so low as to boo Ewing and help drive him out of town, so even if Curry could live up to those lofty comparisons it still wouldn't guarantee anything.

I agree with Tom that it was a really stupid comparison.
