Usually when one choose the wrong direction the following mistakes are not avoidable.
Only new start can help get back from mounting mistakes to success.
To get the new start you need to rich the dead end. We are close... Almouts there.

And don't be so depresed - this will be a lot of oportunities in front of us. Some will be compareble with Williams and some will be even better.

i have no problem criticizing Isiah for making bad picks, but so far he hasn't made any in my eyes... all his draft picks have proven to be solid NBA level players... maybe Balkman turns out to be a bust, maybe not... i think Isiah's earned the benefit of the doubt there if nothing else.

what gets me is the same guys who praise Isiah's eye for young talent are some of the same ones who are consistently killing him for taking Balkman over MW.

So it's kind of like, a million dollars falls into your lap. Instead, you opt to go for $100,000 and give $900,000 to your neighbor, Mr. Net. Your argument is that you should be happy to have gotten anything? I guess.

I think his argument is simply, don't demand drafting *perfection*. Be satisfied with good drafting.

seriously, this was one of the better drafts for PGs in a while: Farmar, Marcus, Rondo...

we could have had any of them at 20. any of them would have been a better playmaker for this offense than what we have. Marbury can run pick and rolls extremely well, but we aren't doing that now.

Among countless others - trading 2 unprotected first round draft picks, getting Rose and Francis, MoT, letting go of Nazr, getting Marbury (face it, he has been a bust so far with no signs of turning this thing around), do I need to go on?

This has been a truly rough stretch to be a Knicks fan.

I wanna see the Knicks win a game. Having Marcus Williams would make that more likely.

Someday we are going to have to aquire a PG that can run an offense. Not just one that dribbles upcourt and hands it to Allan and Spree. And not one that looks pretty dribbling for 80 seconds before shooting a shot. But one that can actually run an offense. As a coach this is the first, second and third and even the fourth thing you dream about.
I just hope that people will like me

Well....I think the Knicks made a silly choice drafting Balkman...If Phx was gonna get him, so be it. Marcus Williams is going to be a really good player. I guess we drafted for "need" and not another guard, which would give us, what? Seven guards?

my argument is that a guy like Isiah who's shown he has a real eye for judging young talent deserves the benefit of the doubt from people who think of themselves to be knowledgeable when it comes to judging young talent on a sports message forum... & you know i'm not trying to get personal w/u Solace, but if there's anything Isiah's shown & that i can't criticize him for is his draft history since he got here... now everyone's ready to kill the guy for a pick that hasn't even been given a chance to prove himself in any appreciable sample.

I partially agree, and there's no offense taken. Isiah has an above-average draft history. That's why he doesn't get completely massacred for this, but most criticism is fair. There is something to be said for draft positioning, though. If Marcus Williams is an all-star and Balkman is a solid role player, Isiah gets knocked, not for not taking a good player, but for not taking the best player there. This is a pick that most would consider an obvious pick. Balkman may yet be good... but you can't just let Marcus Williams slip past you.

If Layden did this, nobody on this board would defend it. I think that's a clear showing that Isiah is getting respect for past draft history.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

i'm not defending it nor am i killing it... i'm waiting to form a clear judgement based on a fair sample against NBA level competition, which is what i said i would do before the draft even took place... was i shocked that he didn't take MW? yeah, i was... but i'm keeping an open mind on it until i see how Balkman can help this team... if by the Allstar break, we're still having this discussion & MW's over in NJ averaging 10 & 5 off the bench while Balkman's a bit role player, then i will say that you were right all along... but let's also consider the talent that MW is playing with as compared to Balkman here, as well as the lack of dischord surrounding that NJ franchise in direct contrast to ours... plus the fact they were a good team before he ever got there, as opposed to this team that's just coming off the worst season in the franchise's history... these variables that go beyond the stats have to be kept in mind when comparing these guys imho.

I still think passing Marcus was a mistake. BUT, there's also the issue here that JKidd LOVES to take digs at the Knicks.

i never got that one... what's his beef w/the Knicks anyway? or is it Marbury he's got the beef with? it's not like the Knicks have been bitter rivals w/the Nets since he's been there... RJ's the same way... it's like 2 kids who are jealous that the Knicks get all the coverage in the NY market so they have to resort to taking potshots at every opportunity to have their names mentioned in the local media... it's sad... they should just be happy to be the better team & leave us to our misery.

I could understand Isiah passing on Marcus Williams if Knicks had a young PG who was doing great job of runing offense and was on verge of being an all star. Instead we have 2 high priced career underachievers that don't play well with young guys.

3 Years from now when Marbury and Francis are gone and Williams is an all star everyone will be crying.

Kidd is not the only one that wonders what the hell the Knicks were thinking. I ask myself that question everyday.
