No, actually he put up a picture attempting to ridicule my ethnicity.

It was a picture of a fat asian kid. I mean, if that's racist, then surely UK's monthly "Eddy Curry as Fat Albert" posts are equally racist. Poor taste is involved all around, but racism seems like a stretch...

So why did he put another picture of an asian man in another thread? He wasn't fat, he was just asian.

Why take a shot at my ethnicity at all? Sorry but attempting to ridicule me on the basis of my ethnicity is racist. And that's not a stretch.

The behavior is really unacceptable. People get on players and expect them to act professionally and like role models 24/7, and yet these fans come the games and act like total lunatics. The whole thing in Detroit was caused by one fan deciding that his ticket purchase authorized him to through a beer at a player. I don't know about you, but if someone throws a beer at me, I would probably go after them like Artest did (not saying Artest was right b/c he was not, but the situation was caused by a fan). Some things you just don't do. The NBA really needs to control these idiots that think just because they buy a ticket they have the right to unleash their frustrations on the players. Honestly, I think some of this stems from a conscious or unconscious jealousy that a black player is making more money than the white fan, who then feels it is his job in life to make it as difficult as possible for the black player. I am not saying that is always the case, but I think that is the underlying reason more often than people are willing to acknowledge.

It's getting to a point were you won't be able to say anything anymore, not without being stomped on. What was exactly is the big deal of using the word monkey? If you called Dirk a monkey, can a fan still get in trouble, since this is a racial thing. It's an interesting question and thought I think is okay to bring up. What do you guys think?

I mean it seems to me, by going after someone for saying something like that, it makes it true and you shouldn't say it? Is that what it means? I can think of far worse words to use.

"I would like to take a moment of your time to offer a complete and unconditional apology for my poor behavior, and in particular, my poor choice of words last Thursday night while attending the ultimatesKnicks.com basketball site," the letter reads.
"I am by no means a racist, and if you only knew me better you would never begin to have those thoughts. What I am guilty of is poor judgment in the use of words while doing what I do to many of the sites fat stupid loser no friends living in their mother's basement internet muscle having fat twinkie eating fat stupid dope haters, 'make fun of them.'"

I had no idea calling your fat loser face a twinkie eater was wrong...had I known I would have said something about your mother you dope.

so, I apologize you fat dope.

no...I take my apology back.

fatty.

No but really, you called him a twinkie eater and Isles is claiming this was a racist remark?
Sounds more like a anti-gay slur, but I never even heard of it before.

No, actually he put up a picture attempting to ridicule my ethnicity.

Would you be cool with someone doing that to you Killa?

seriously? we should institute the same policy the NBA does then.

Yeah seriously.

I have the balls to show up at a UK get together last year and have no problem with having pics taken with the rest of the guys. Still don't. But then this gutless loser takes that info and finds it acceptable to take shots at my ethnicity.

rvhoss is a racist ***hole.

Dude are you kidding me? I agree that political correctness has gone overboard in the US, but calling Mutombo a monkey. If you don't find that to be racist, I can't help you.

Hmmm, I thought I was spuring a little thought on this sticky thing. I have a lot of respect of your writings Bip, and in reading it again, I guess I do come off as looking somewhat ignorant. So I'll face up to it, but the point of my question was to spur some thought and discussion on this, to be able to talk about this, without coming off as being a racist. Do you see the stickiness of it? I suppose I talk a little on behalf of those who don't know how to think about this stuff, when it comes up. Was trying to spur some thinking as to why this happens. No one ever talks about why' it happens or what the foundation of it is. Things are shot down and that 's it. Of course I know it's a racist term and it's probably a bad example to make an example out of. But I can't be afraid to speak on it either. I would also like to bring up the fact that other ethnic groups in this country are not even thought of as humans beings. So why' is it okay to attack things said about one group, but other groups are not even thought of as human beings and racism goes on in those relms?

For example?

I say this in the nicest way I know how. Or maybe in your words:

'I can't help you' (if I have to tell you).

If any of us are going to defend against racism, then let's defend 'everyone', otherwise don't pretend to be a people person. I mean that in a nice way, really I do.

Exactly and if we see examples of racism it's easier to defend than defending blanket statements like

"I would also like to bring up the fact that other ethnic groups in this country are not even thought of as humans beings. So why' is it okay to attack things said about one group, but other groups are not even thought of as human beings and racism goes on in those relms?".

You ask the question why is it okay to attack things said about one group but other groupss are not even thought of as human beings? I ask who on this site is saying it's okay to treat other people poorly? Should black people not be angry when they are called monkeys? Who out there is not allowed to defend themselves from being treated poorly? Are you implying that black people "have it good" when it comes to racism?

We all know their are people that are treated poorly. And most of us speak up when we see examples of it. But what in the world does that have to do with Mutombo being called a monkey? I don't get your point I guess.

Yeah, you don't understand. But instead of trying to talk to understand or maybe even trusting what I was trying to say, you decided to try and make me into the poster boy here. At least that's what it sounds like.

I suggest you guys let us talk this out. It's all good.
