I would love to see this lineup

Frye

I think in six months people will be saying IT is a genius for picking Balkman and other GMs will be saying they were going to get him before pick 29. The kid can really play. The only thing that will hold him back is whether his offense develops. If he can add a consistent jumpshot (and FT shooting) to his game, he will be unstoppable because he can already drive by his man. This season is still early, but this could be the year that IT is redeemed and all his moves are proven right (or at the very least, proven not to be as wrong as originally thought).

Free throws he def needs to improve in, but I dont know if I want him to be imporve too much at his jumpshot b/c clearly hes best when he driving too the hoop. Too many players who improve on their jumpshot and are better at driving to the hole, will rely on that new and improved jump shot then doing what they used to do best. Know what i mean.

Two preseason games and you got this kid figured out. Amazing!

thats right. If you see someone playing all out in the preseason likes he doing, you know he has heart. Did you see him wrestle for that rebound against two boston players. Thats the kind of intensity you want to see in a player.

All he has to do is go out there and defend we have enough scorers. What I want him to do is become a defensive presense for guys like the Vince, Pierce, Melo and Brons of the league.

Balkman's weaknesses will be exposed in time but he clearly plays HARD on both ends of the court. Like Lee I think he's the kind of guy that will just make you better when he's out there. A lot like Ward was as PG for so long... stayed with in himself, stuck with what he did well.

He's definatly a good fit for the new NBA. He's a hybrid forward and plays best in motion. He's a good glue player around our scorers

It will be interesting to see how the rotations play out. Franics pounds the ball, my god does he overdribble. Q is playing like the pre-hurt back player he was in LA, Rose looks like he knows he's got no place here, Frye looks a lot more like a center than a PF and Crawford is playing the best of all the guards.

Balkman isn't going to have the amount of weaknesses Ariza did. First off, he's got a handle. A little out of control, yes, but it will only get better over the years. Two, he's not looking to be an offensive player. That means his lack of a shot won't hurt us. Having a guy on the floor who's never looking to shoot when he has the ball is invaluable. He'll make people see the folly of weighting the scoring stats more heavily than rebounding and blocked shots.

That having been said, there's no way he's a starter. C'mon have you seen our competition thus far? Not one bona fide star. He should get 10-15 minutes a night against teams second unit. Go from there.

Comparison time:

With his nose and point forward potential we can go with "a young Scottie Pippon".

I think we are going to see in Balkman a player that stats can't quantify. I think he will amount to a great team player that makes everyone around him better. Perhaps M. Williams will be a similar player, excelling with stats like Marbury, but I really think Balkman is something special in the Making. His stats last night were insane on a min by min basis though, so who knows. In interviews he's got an innocense about himself that is refreshing in this age of "me" players. I think good things happen to those kinds of players... like attracts like. Speaking of which, I hope there are no sour grapes to speak of on this team, and if so, I hope Isiah takes care of it right away.

Regarding Jeffries' injury... sucks. I think we will really miss him out there. Though he is not offensive, a person with his athleticism on this type of offense/team will be missed. But, it will give Balkman more of a role out of the gate and who knows what happens after... Play the card you are dealt.

i know its only preseason but this guy needs to play with Jeffries out. I have to give credit to Isiah for taking him when EVERYONE says he should have been taken in the second round. He is exactly the kind of player that winning teams have. He is all heart and hustle and the knicks havent had a player like him in a long time. Isiah Thomas should never ever be questioned again when its comes to drafting and evaluating talent. Marcus is the prettier pick and prob will have a good career, but the knicks were loaded with guards already and desperatly needed a player like Balkman. The way that guys plays the game is the what the Knicks of old used to be all about.

let's not say everyone because there were some on this board, me included, who were willing to give this pick the benefit of the doubt until they saw what he could do on the court... & many of the same things you just said have been reiterated several times in the past during those draft debates... so far it looks like Isiah got himself a helluva player w/that pick... & i agree, he should never be questioned when it comes to judging young talent.

MisterClutch, why does evaluating talent only apply to the draft?

Isiah's drafted players are good and regarded as solid selections. Last I checked I dont see the next Amare, Dwight Howard, Dirk or McGrady on our roster.

A little reminder...
gone is Jackie Butler
gone is Ariza
gone is the 31rst pick in this last draft for Mo Taylor
signed for 5 years... Jerome James
signed for 2 years... Vin Baker
If Isiah drafts so well why give up 2 unprotected #1s for a center with a weight and heart problem, that his current team didnt want?

I think its quite OK and fair to question ANY move Isiah makes. Most agree he's upgraded talent. Its the price he pays thats the problem.

Exactly. Let's not get too high (though i love the energy the guy brings). the more he plays, the more he'll get exposed and killed by teams who'll work on his weaknesses.

Let him grow, safe in the shadow. Play him 15 minutes to be a disruptive force on the court but don't ask too much too soon.

But when I see what we have in Lee, Blakman, Frye, nae, craw, curry... I have hopes. High hopes.
The first time for ages, to be honnest.

i think if we had a top pick in a good draft you would see a player of that caliber on our team...after all it was Isiah who Picked Mcgrady 8 or 9 i think...and it was Isiah who picked Fry in a draft that if redrafted prob would be a top 3 pick. And you would also never have heard of Butler my friend if it wasnt for Isiah. But listen, Im still upset he let Butler go too, I just dont understand why he would want to rely on Big Snacks as a backup. And, im also not going to defend the amount of money he gives players. I said hes good at evaluating a talent but managing cap space could use some work. Offerring two picks for Curry Im okay with b/c I think Curry could be that good...but not protecting it makes no sense...atleast protect the second one for god sakes. And lastly I think I said if not...I meant to say that no one should question who he drafts ever again...not trades or signings.
