I figured if we can say what offense we are going to run before training camp starts than I can put 4 before 3.

and Tumbleweeds, break it down Bip. I for one will not say anything about the offense or defence until I see it first hand. Not falling for the cat in the bag trick.

we can always sign Shawn Kemp to a 5 year $30 million dollar contract if all else fails.

Sad thing is that that would be one of the better contracts we've had in the last five years.

why can't we find a raw 6'11 athlete to sit on the end of our bench and hope he becomes sam dalembert in afew seasons? enough flat-footed soft big bodies. is there really no one like that out there?

still curious... or are we done talking about paul miller?

Again some of you guys just aren't paying ATTENTION! Part of the offense Isiah will use features a double high post and in that offense you need bigs who can set a pick and hit a jumper. We aren't going to only feature low post offense. So in the scheme of how we'll be playing this year, which will make the BEST use of our talented guards, we need bigs who can shoot with range. I honestly don't think you guys respect isiah's basketball knowledge or that he actually has a plan for how he intends to play this year. You seem to assume that Isiah is some jackass that knows nothing and you couldn't be more wrong.

Its easier to defend a so, so low post player than it is a good pick and pop big. There's a natural advantage to that play due to the motion which causes teams to have to respond to the attacking guard. This leaves the jump shooting big open a lot of times and if not then the guard has a great scoring opportunity. Without great deep shooters, we aren't going to be as effective in a pure post up offense like LB was running. Teams won't respect our shooters and will pack it in on our bigs. WIth great spacing, a motion offense and heavy use of picks teams won't easily be able to just pack it in.

Personally I think Isiah is a smart guy who has forgotten more about basektball than this entire site combined. I think he understands personnel and how to use them. I think he was a solid coach in Indiana and will be one here. That being said he has also made a million mistakes as a GM and if I'm going to give him credit for knowing basketball and being a great draft guru and massaging egos I have to take him to task when he spends 50% of his time buying out his mistakes. He hired LB my friend. He traded for Jalen and Stevie. He traded for Mo. these are among his mistakes. He's also drafted David Lee and Frye and brought in some solid role players(some who he's let go after one year). I have no doubt he will do a better job than LB did last year. But we want a championship and you can't make this many mistakes and buyouts and lawsuits and lead coaches out with security guards and expect to win a title. If you are going to give him props for a good move, you can also crush him when he makes a bad one. It's called seing something occur and commenting on it objectively.

Paul Miller is a nice young guy. May help, may not. The same could have been said about Butler and Woods and Ariza. All guys that came and went in a short period of time because they didn't fit a plan. It's time to only get guys that fit into a plan!!!!!! Enough year to year patchwork

I think the odds of raw athletes developing into good basketball players is slim. It does happen, but it's slim. A lot of the time it's the guys who dominated on some level, even though their fundamentals need work. But those guys get drafted... and often still don't work out. I'm all for giving it a try, but just know that the majority of times, the player won't be much of a piece... ever.

the double high post offense is used to clear out the middle for slashers and penetrators. In order for it to work you need to have big men that can shoot the J consistently or else both defenders will sag off the high post and are in perfect position to cut down the lanes without fear of defensive three seconds. Outside of Frye do we have the personnel to make this work? How does this effect Curry's time on the court if at all? If Frye is off the floor how does that affect the offense?

Number 2: In the high post offense to create floor balance or due to penetration you will often times find your 2 guards below the foul line. The result is that your big men will find themselves creating and directing the offense with the ball in their hands. It is imperative to have a big man that can lead the offense. Some great high post performers of the past are Vlade Divac, Chris Webber, Bill Walton. Do we have a big man capable of directing the offense? Can Frye learn? Lee?

Its not like we'll run a strict high post offense all game. Its only one aspect of what Isiah plans to do. Isiah's offense is a hybrid mix of the UCLA High Post Shuffle Cut, the Triangle offense and things he's taken from Bobby Knight's passing game. I'm sure there are other concepts that he's going to use as well. In any case i'm sure Isiah will determine when and what the team will run based on who he has on the floor. I merely mentioned the idea of the Double high post as one possible use for a guy like Miller and Frye in the lineup. We have the right kind of players for the things Isiah wants to run. We have slashers, great penetrators, good shooting bigs, guys who can run the break, post up centers. In general we have a pretty balanced team. We don't have a lot of great deep threats, but we have enough to get by. We may not be great at all of these things, but we should be good enough to function well as a team.

You mentioned some of the BEST passing big men ever and that's not fair at all. Its not necessary that our bigs be as spectacular as those guys. They only need to be efficient. We added Jared to help in the passing dept. Frye and Lee are both capable passing big men. Isiah will be working with them on improving those skills. Just remember something, this isn't the end of this teams development it's the beginning. We'll be establishing an identity from now on and further developing the raw skills our players have in order to execute this offense. I think your lack of respect for what the players and the coach can do, is clouding your judgement. To me if Isiah does add Miller then it goes along with what he's trying to do, so I see no problem at all.

And if you read my post you will understand I was simply asking the question. But once again unless I echo your posts and tell you how great it was you are going to be antagonistic. I asked what offense is best for Steph and Stevie. If we run the high post screen and roll with Frye in the game what happens with Curry. They were jsut questions my friend. I was wondering allowed. I asked the kool-aid drinkers not to jump down my throat but "As usual, you really haven't been paying attention to what i've been saying in this forum"

Listen guy, I am a coach. I have played collegiately and professionally. The one think I've learned is that no coach decides on an offense until the season starts. I understand Isiah will adjust the offense to fit his philosophy and his idea for the team. He built the da-mn team so hopefully the players he brought in fit with his philosophy as opposed to some of the oil and water he's tried to mix in the past.

I just asked the question. Not sure how those questions lead to any kind of argument or debate. Just say your thoughts and leave it at that. Why is that so difficult?

It's much harder when you have to mix in kool-aid.

Okay how about this? If we are running some sort of high post offense with Frye and say David Lee. the offense is running fantastically. Dunk after dunk after dunk. But unfortunately Lee gets tired. And then Curry checks. Curry has been playing fantastic ball and is fulfilling all our dreams. He is dominating the post. Frye is draining J's like Allan Houston. In that situatiion what type of offense do we run when Curry checks in?

Stevie and Marbs are domianting their opponents. Breaking them down off the dribble. They've broken the ankles of all the starters on the other team. They are donw to their fourth string guards. They are leading us like no two guards have ever led a team ever. Do you think this is more likely to occur in a motion offense where they are constantly whipping the ball around the perimeter or in an iso offense?

Nixluva: This is just a question. I don't give an answer. I'm not criticizing anyone with this question. I'm not saying we are doomed. I'm not saying we are great. I'm just asking a simple gosh darn question. Now open your mind. Stop answering the question as if I just said LB is god and teh Knicks suck, and just give me your thoughts. It's not that difficult.

It's a lot of hype but doesn't really say a lot. Lee and Frye are capable passers. I'm sure Isiah is working with them. Not sure why this sentence is even in here because if he isn't working with them I'm wondering what he is doing. But what we are trying to do is look at the strengths and weaknesses of the players. Frye is a great candidate for high pick and pops because he is a great shooter. Lee is pretty solid at the pick and roll because he can take it to the hoop. But in the NBA and at any high level to run a double high post offense you MUST HAVE PLAYERS THAT CAN RUN AN OFFENSE LIKE A PG. Not just pass, but run an offense. Now I asked the question can Lee or Frye become these players. I don't know, that's why I asked the question. I think in the long-term plans of this team if we are to win a title the offense will be built around Curry.I think if we are talking long term we would be better off working Frye off the pick and pop and developing a low post game than trying to teach him to run the offense from the high post.

This is just my opinion. Relax.

Nixluva: don't think I didn't notice that you cleanly edited "As usual, you really haven't been paying attention to what i've been saying in this forum" out of your last post. Smooth. It does make your post sound less antagonistic and makes me sound like I over-reacted to your post. In this chess game that was a brilliant move on your part. Dishonest and not a true representation of the conversation, but brilliant.

Go ahead and take "I think your lack of respect for what the players and the coach can do, is clouding your judgement" out of your post as well just to seal the deal.

nixluva talks about Isiah's offense like it's some sort of work of art. Basically it's merely a melange of several offenses he's admired. Isn't that what most coaches run: a certain blend of the systems they have experience with?

The problem is guys like marbury and Francis have shown great difficulty successfully adapting to, and administrating, any one offense. Now we think they're going to master three, and permutations and combinations thereof, on the fly? Ditto lee and Frye. I'm sure they're competent passers, but they don't have a whole lot of experience administrating offenses.

Isiah seems to be taking a Mensa approach to all this by masterminding the greatest offensive hybrid known to man, but then he's sending out flunkies to absorb and execute it. Meanwhile Stiffbury and Frankenstein will get mentally weary very quickly and things will break down as they always do with them playing hot potato on the perimeter, or going iso and pounding the ball looking for a seam in the defense.

These guys need the ball and they need their glamor stats. I really don't see them tossing the ball into Frye and waiting around while he tries to memorize the 38 key components of tonight's gameplan.

Signing Paul Miller makes sense...

Since the Knicks just gave his dad a front office job.
