That's a big problem with today's basketball player. At 22 years old, how about saying *I want to win the championship* that's want I want to do, that's all I want to do. This kind of mentality takes away from the game a bit. How about put the time in and let things develop. You're a injury away from being a nobody pretty quick. You become SOMEBODY by accomplishing major GOALS first in the nBA. It's not like you are going to fall back on your Harvard education. You are a celebrity and the ONLY goal right now should be to accomplish NBA goals and be conservative and smart with your wealth that you've accumulated to this point.

I hope he makes a billion dollars next year and gets injured.
I'll never trust this' team again.

Um I don't know if anyone realizes it or not, but basketball is still a sport and money rules the world.

Do the math

Not in New York! It's only about money.

Oh I agree but I still put Dwyane ahead of him. I can't picture Dwyane ever saying something this arrogant publicly.

Here's the quote in context if you wanna cut the kid a little slack.
By TOM WITHERS AP Sports Writer

CLEVELAND Sep 21, 2006 (AP)— LeBron James spent part of the past week shooting hoops with Dave and eating cheeseburgers with one of the world's richest men.

During a taped appearance on "Late Show with David Letterman" that will air on Friday, the Cavaliers' star forward took on the talk show host in a shooting contest outside the Ed Sullivan Theater in midtown Manhattan.

James fired up shots from 3-point range while Letterman shot free throws. Before their matchup, Letterman interviewed James on a range of subjects, including his high school days, his quick ascension to NBA star and playing for the United States in the world championships this summer.

A few days earlier, James had lunch in Omaha, Neb., with billionaire Warren Buffett. Keith Estabrook, a spokesman for James, said the two met over milkshakes, adding the player has "great respect for Mr. Buffet."

James, who signed a three-year, $60 million contract extension with the Cavaliers in July, may have been seeking some off-the-court business advice from Buffett, the self-made billionaire investor.

Last year, in an interview with The Associated Press, James said one of his primary goals was to "be the richest man in the world." James, who will turn 22 in December, already has endorsement deals worth an estimated $150 million.

Buffett sported a full Cavaliers uniform, complete with a jersey bearing his name, during his lunch with James and others, said Jen Bubarek, a waitress at Crescent Moon Ale House.

James ordered a bacon cheeseburger, french fries and an Arnold Palmer, a drink concocted of lemonade and iced tea. Bubarek said he topped off his meal with an Oreo cookie milkshake delivered by a Buffett staffer.

The waitress said Buffett frequents the casual restaurant, so it was "business as normal" for the staff. But, she said, a group seated near Buffett's table recognized James and asked to take his photo.

"He was very, very kind. He took pictures and signed autographs," she said.

In January, Buffett dropped into the restaurant with New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez.

James was first invited to be a guest on Letterman's show when he was in high school at Akron's St. Vincent-St. Mary High School. But scheduling conflicts delayed him making his late-night debut, which was taped on Monday night.

Here's a good question and just to show you what James will have to do to pass this person up, but just exactly who is the richest man on Earth? I know Gates is one of them, but there are a few people richer than he is. The capitalist community will never' let James become the richest man on Earth. You need some very, very 'in high places' friends to get to that level.
I'll never trust this' team again.

When he says stuff like that, it just seems like he doesn't love and respect the game. You can only hope he grows up.

Also makes you respect MJ just a little bit more. He went through a ton of adversity in high school and had to work for everything he got. LeBron literally recieved everything on a silver platter.

I think Lebron is overhyped.
The Marketting campaign for this guy started way before he joined the NBA.
Although he is obviously a very good player.
In my opinion I think both Wade and Carmelo are better than he is.
Wade has an NBA championship, Carmelo has an NCAA championship, Lebron has Nothing...
They all all share 2 bronze International Medals.

In watching these guys over the past 3 years and the Worlds this summer it appears to me that Wade and Carmelo bring alot more to their respective teams.

which is why I'm not mad at him for saying that. It's all about money...it's ALWAYS been about money for these athletes in Sports but that doesn't mean they dont care about the game.

Imagine is Starbury said something like this, this board would be overloaded with traffic. I have a problem with anyone who wants to be the richest person in the world. Why do you want to be the richest person in the world? I mean, you are already in the 1% of richest people in the world. Why thee richest? I think it says something very sad and selfish about his character.

I don't think there is anything wrong with setting any particular individual goal. I do think that "letting the world know" is a whole different ball of wax. Have you ever heard Michael Dell say I'm the 6th richest guy, I only have 5 slots to go? At 22 years old, Lebron's focus should be hard-nosed play and fiscal conservatism. Boldly proclaiming that your goal is to become the richest person in the world alienates him from the people who ultimately make him wealthy and his adviors should tell him to be steer-clear from that type of rhetoric.

Look at Tom Cruise, he opened his mouth and acted foolishly one to many times. While it's a different spectrum, it's still the message.

Lebron James is a basketball player. He didn't create the machine. The machine created him.

Don't hate the player ... hate the game.

Lebron is an outstanding basketball player, one of the best talents to EVER come into the NBA. For someone who wants to be the richest person in the world, maybe college would have helped him smarten up so he wouldn't say such ridiculous things.
