That would be easy...and ineffective.

I'd have been far more impressed if he just went out and told kids to be less brand conscious and materialistic and invited them to shop at all kinds of discount stores, like Steven and Barry's, Payless, K-mart and the like. tell them to work on their character and be good teammates and for them to think about ways to be charitable, even in spite of their poverty.

I would find that inspiring and I think it would have a lot more social relevance than him marketing himself as the next great thing.

I guess you're right. It would seem pretty silly to hear him tdownplaying materialism while wearing 9 karat earrings, diamond studded bracelets and driving a Bentley.

I think the bottom line is this. Marbury shouldn't really be criticized for the work he is doing on his shoes right now. I really don't know if he's doing this to repair his image or if he really cares about the poorer people. I'm sure it's somewhere in the middle. But to me, none of it is really important. The shoes will wear off in a few months and the kids will still be poor. The trend will wear away like all trends do. Marbury will still donate with a million tv cameras in front of him. But none of that matters to me. The next sentence or 2 or 3 or 4 are what matters...

If this stuff is preventing him from working on his game and preventing him from fixing his attitude towards basketball and the Knicks, then I don't care how charitable he is: He is the biggest D-Bag on the face of the planet and deserve sympathy from nobody, especially Isiah Thomas. This is what HE is getting paid for. Not making shoes.

If his defense stinks, then I say Marbury stinks, even if he makes his shoes for free. If his attitude stinks, then Marbury stinks. He should be traded.

Stay tuned...

I thought I was the only one that noticed it. they all do it. It's ridiculous. At his press conference his earrings cost more than my house.

I'm with you man. I don't hang out with any of these guys so I could give to rats assess about how they are off the court. Still not sure why anyone cares. If he's a good guy I say cool and move on to how he is on the court. If he is a bad guy(as long as he isn't breaking any laws) I don't care if he is getting it done on the court. I could care less if this guy is selling shoes or not selling shoes, anymore than I could care about what his hobbies are.
