Like I said, I had not come across anything or heard that jeffries asked to wear 20 as a tribute. I think thats great if thats the case, I just think it should have been more of a big deal in the media. As for retiring from the forum and getting mushed??...I wont take it to heart, As a long time knick fan, I never came across this site/ forum, so gimmie a break. Thats why I posted the topic, to see if anyone had any other information I didnt know. I will say that reading reply after reply about what kind of "slap" it was, is a waste of time. Add some real insight or dont reply at all is my take on forums.

Sorry if I sound bitter, I was at funeral of a close family memeber yesterday. I encourage everyone to go to www.youtube.com , search allan houston, and watch him hit for 50 points in Sam Cassel's eye, and watch "the shot" against Miami in game 5. Brings back the best of memories for any knick fan!

We all know what he meant to us and most rational fans agree with you that he was great for us. But this post was stillf unny. Keep posting.

The NY Giants haven't retired Harry Carson's #53. Houston was a scrub compared to Carson.

Different sport , different player, Carson was never the "franchise player" on that team. And just for the record, Carson made a public stink about not getting voted in for some many years, Houston would never ever pull something like that. Hes too humble....thats why Jeffries is wearing #20.

P.S. thanks for the kind regards...I do feel welcome here now...you have no idea what I have endured as the self proclaimed "biggest Allan Houston fan"...Ive argued my brains out over the years in deffense of Allan. His class integrity and of course, the prettiest jumper weve seen in years, will never be duplicated. I have many articles saved from after his retirement, in which coachs, team mates, and media were all in praise of such a rare class act who always gave 100%.

Retire20, welcome to the boards. I looked up to him as I grew up and he became my favorite player in the season Ewing hurt his wrist. I'll give you the "Biggest Houston fan" title, but it's like what Jay-Z says "After me, there should be nore more."

I fully agree. Allan Houston is what all athletes should strive to be like.

Who was the Giants franchise player in 1980?

No, Carson said that if the HoF committee wasn't going to jerk him around, they should leave him alone. He was right.

Houston wasn't close to the player Carson was.

What has this board come to if we're going to compare 2 players in different sports?!?! Boy, Channing Frye sure couldn't hold Robby Cano's jockstrap.

At least Torre started Cano every game. Frye didn't have the same luxury. So your analogy is bogus.

The point is that Houstton doesn't deserve to have his number retired.

Allan doesn't deserve to have his number retired period. Before "the shot" he was the biggest puss ball on the planet. He wasn't clutch or a big shot taker till 1999 playoffs. That was a flook cuz the guy regressed. His jumpshot was his only weapon. He often took away from the flow of the game with all his isolations. Plus sprewell was way better than him hand had more of an impact that Houston in a knick uniform. No need to being up stats cuz their were games when spree had 12pts and Houston had 20 in the same game and you would not evern remember if Houston was even playing. He was one dementional and he was far from clutch. His best years statistically the knicks were in the lottery. He retired like a bitch cuz he couldn't isolate anymore. He could have still helped out as a spot up shooter and regressed into a role, micro surgery or not.

Bottom line. If Houston deserves to get his jersey retired, starks and oak deserves it too. Wanna talk class? Herb Williams should get it before Houston. Bernard also needs to be up there before Houston.

I'm not being negative. Stating facts.

rafter are reserved for special players. Don't get me wrong H20 was a great Knick but not worthy of being up in the rafter alongside clyde, pearl, willis and Pat. Sorry but NO

Yeah, lets discuss Bernard first anyway. H20 was my fav player. Maybe if his career was longer and the team stayed good for longer and he proved stuff in other playoffs, but that wasn't the scenario.

I'd definitely welcome him as a Knicks coach however.

Allan Houston wasn't that good that he should have his number retired. If you are going to retire the number 20 then you have to retire LJs number, Oakley's number, Stark's number and against Dolan's wishes Spree's number and not to forget Bernard King's number.

Retiring numbers should be for legends and H20 was no legend.

Now that Bonn has left Ultimateknicks, I think we should retire his post count.

I concur that Houston's #20 doesn't deserve retiring. He wasn't a perennial all-star. He was a 1-tool player that made it to the NBA finals once. He didn't even stay healthy for that many seasons... I think a retired number isn't just for a "favorite player"... I think it is for the unforgettable player... Allan Who?ston? doesn't qualify...
