King1, given your history on this board as being an extremely reliable person for information, are you saying this because your sources are hearing some rumors about this?

MoT, QRich, and MRose for Webber I'd def go for. Clears out clutter. Will work fine.

I'd do it, but I'd want a lot of min for Lee and Frye still. I'd assume for better or worse, Webber and Curry would start. All 4 could still get around 28 mpg if Lee played about half his min at SF. That's if Isiah benches JJ. I can't imagine why Philly would do this, though. I don't think they save money and they give up the best player in the deal and they have to use up 2 additional roster spots. It would be insane for them.

Would two expiring contracts put them under the cap after this season?

Wow what a good idea to add Malik to the trade. I would think that would give you Jefferies and Lee at the 3 and Webber and Frye at the four. You could always slide Frye for some spot minutes at the 5. Webber will be good for about 25 minutes a game so I dont think it will hurt Frye or Lee. I think you will see Lee and Frye get at least 25 minutes a game this year.

Yeah, I don't see Philly taking Q and Malik in that deal. I believe Maliks contract is the same length as Webbers while Q's contract runs about 3-4 yrs longer.

The only conclusion I could come too is Philly is trying to get under the cap by next summer which would make them more appealing to potential buyers. But im not sure this trade puts them under the cap. Still might have to make another move or two.

I would do it and I think philly would do the deal too. It saves them some money becuaes they won't be over the lux tax and it still keeps the team as an playof conteder........

Very interesting twist. If Isiah is offered CWebb for MoT, Malik and Q then he has to do it. I've always liked Webber and even though he's had problems with his knee, he's still been a productive player. His defense isn't good anymore, which I'm not too happy about but his passing in this offense would be a huge addition, I think Webber is probably one of the top3 passing big men in the NBA, if not the best. Get it done Isiah.

IMO Philly would not take on Q's contract. Their primary reason for trading webber would be to get some cap relief. Q makes a lot of money and will be doing so for the next 4 years at a position that they already have established starters. Philly might be willing to do a trade of Taylor, Rose, and Collins for Webber just to get rid of C-Webb's contract and allow them more flexibility to sign 2007 free agents. If they were willing to do this, I would probably make the trade, since C-Webb only has 2 years on his contract, can really help the offense, and can play some center.

I think the best trade that makes sense for both teams is richardson, taylor, and robinson for webber. This deal saves them a couple million instantly and they can get taylor's contract off the books right away. It saves us more long term because of richardson's long deal. This deal gives them depth and gives them a nice young guard. As much as i don't like the thought of dealing robinson, i think he's the odd man out with marbury, francis, and crawford at the guard spots. We would clear our guard glut and would have a nice roster and 9-man rotation.

C Curry, James
PF Webber, Frye, Lee, M Rose
SF Jeffries, J Rose, Balkman
SG Francis, Crawford
PG Marbury, Collins

Rotation and minutes:

C Curry 28, Frye 20
PF Webber 28, Lee 14, Frye 6
SF Jeffries 26, J Rose 16, Crawford 4, Lee 2
SG Francis 34, Crawford 14
PG Marbury 38, Crawford 10
Balkman, M Rose, James
IR Collins

Marbury 38 min
Francis 34
Crawford 28
Webber 28
Curry 28
Frye 26
Jeffries 26
Lee 16
Rose 16

I have no interest in trading Nate in a deal for Webber. He was one of the few players that played with passion. I want to see what he can do with Isiah coaching.

^^^ I know, if they want to no money for trading webber............... then they wouldn't trade him!!!!! he expires in two years. Why would the knicks give up a prospect and the short contracts for Webber???? that's stupid. Q/MRose/Taylor for webber is a fair trade for both teams.

What he will do is sit the bench as long as Francis, Steph, and Crawford are still here. You have to give up quality to get quality. Webber is still a very good player, a 20-10 player. They will want decent players for him. I think this deal is plenty fair.

Even granting your point arguendo (because I think that Isiah will find minutes for Nate, even if Francis isn't ultimately traded), it isn't just about this season. Nate should be a part of this team's future.

Webber would not be a 20-10 player for the Knicks because he won't get the minutes to produce those stats, and if he does, it would mean that Frye, Curry, and Lee aren't getting enough PT, which I would strongly oppose.

The Knicks should be about developing a young core, not providing a way station for stopgap players like Webber, unless it is on the Knicks' terms.

If another team offers more than two expiring contracts and Q for Webber, the Sixers can move him there.

I don't doubt that you think the trade is fair. Afterall, you proposed it.

I can't believe anyone would want webber. Why? We have Curry, Frye, Lee and Jeffires all to play up front.

Webber has a bloated salary and is one injury away from retirement.

Now- maybe if we were sending them Francis, I might think to do it.

Eventually I'd like Frye to develop into a similar offensive player as Webber. It'd be nice for him to work with CWebb for a year or tw. IMO this would be a fascinating deal and an excellent way to consolidate some bad contracts to a shorter term deal that would also free up roster spots and clear gluts.
<P>
And if we really are to play up tempo, I could certainly see Webber swing some minutes at C as well.

http://www.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=557685

the one thing I do know, is that frye wont start at PF next season. isiah's been trying to trade for a PF for a while now. oh well its not that big of a deal as long as he plays a good amount of minutes.
