fish.mike - do you count Houston and Junkyard Dog coming off the payroll after this seaon OR... the distinct possiblity that Mo Taylor, Jalen and/or Steve Francis could be packaged in a trade deadline blockbuster?

200 Million soulnds a bit over the top but

it ain't my money

Don't ow but the Knicks have a core of 26 and unders that doesn't suck that bad.

Did you see where TMS said is dissed you?

Da noive of dat guy

[Edited by - misterearl on 08-08-2006 3:20 PM]
I'm not talking about Houston or guys coming off the cap. I'm saying Isiah ADDED over $250mm in player salaries.

Your right... its not your money. But it is your team. Your 39 ,33 and 23 win team. Hope you have enjoyed

fish.mike - do you really want to segregate Isiah's financial strategy into two buckets, of inherited contract obligations and recently negotiated contract obligations, without recognizing there may be a long-term fiscal plan?

In my humble opinion, inclusive of whatever marching orders Dolan gave Thomas, there was a three-year directive to (1) upgrade the roster, (2) make the playoffs AND (3) acquire a core of compelling yoots that could provide the foundation for the following two years.

That's five years.

Two years less than the 7 it took the Bulls to make the playoffs during their overhaul. The same overhaul where they traded away Brad Miller, Ron Artest and Elton Brand, btw.

The fact that the entire Knicks 6'11 frontcourt ( add 23 year old David Lee at 6.95) is 24 and under should not be treated like it happened by accident

But thats just me

your not reading what I wrote. Isiah ADDED that payroll. I'm not talking about Van Horn, Houston, Eisley, Anderson or any of Layden's mistakes. But thats cool... which part of the fiscal plan does Jerome James fall under? Or Steve Francis? What was Mo Taylor's role? How about Vin Baker? No need to answer.. just hypothetical.

Isiah's got a great track record... everywhere he's been. To doubt he has a 5 year plan is slanderous.

There's a 5 year plan alright.. only problem is it ends better for Isiah than for Knick fans.

I could be sadly mistaken, but I also don't think that getting under the salary cap was one of the directives from Dolan to Isiah.

Thomas has moved the unmovable and upgraded what he inherited in December 2003 from Scott Layden

The best part is, Thomas knows talent and will continue to work the phones. Watch what happens with Mo Taylor, Malik Rose, Quentin Richardson and possibly a guard. He will do the unexpected.

Can you say "blockbuster"?

stay tuned. you heard it here second.

no... but they do come to see Ben Wallace play. If you dont think fiscal responsibility matters when it comes to building a team than dribbling and shooting doesnt matter either. Here's the thing... I dont want Isiah to make a blockbuster. He gets used EVERY time he makes a trade.

Your like a compulsive gambler that keeps losing bet after bet... but your right, this last long shot will surely hit and put us in the green.

"And at forward, 6'9 from Cincinatti... KENNNN YONNNN MARTINNNN!!!!"

fish.mike - why would any NBA executive NOT attempt to be fiscally responsible?

The idea is to win basketball games and have fans WANT to pay for your product.

C'mon dude, you know I love you like a red-headed step cousin on my Aunt Bertha's side of the family, but fiscal irresponsibility is paying Howard Eisley, Travis Knight, Luc Longley, Shadon Anderson and Clarence Weatherspoon. Oh yeah, Please tell TMS I didn't call you an idiot or talk about your momma.

Losing bet after bet? I think not.

That assesment may be a bit over the top when you consider the regressive and redundant 2003 Knicks roster to the compelling and potentially combustible 2006 roster in progress.

Will you watch?

One more thing... The blockbuster won't be for Kenyon Martin

But if it is you'll still be here giving us the daily dose of 100% pure unadulterated grade triple-A homer.

eVil - I choose to pull for any player wearing orange and blue. Always have. New York is my home. If that makes me a "grade triple A homer" then I wear that badge of honor with pride.

Out of all the things written between fish.mike and I, is that the best you can offer for an original contribution?

In your opinion, what is the next move the knicks should make?

misterearl: root all you want. Love the players that's fine. It's also okay for a guy like Fishmike to be frustrated with watching his team lose 5 years in arow. It's reality. What's the problem pointing out reality. Isiah has a good chance to turnaround what he has started. If you think where we are now is part of some long-term plan that he had when he first got here, that's fine. We don't know anymore than you. I'm closer to Fishmike in that I think Isiah is re-adjusting to two or three blown plans. Which again is fine. As long as he learns from his mistakes I have no problem with that. But I do think you are in denial if you think the guy hasn't made a ton of mistakes.

The reason it will take us longer to get those players that really legitimately put us over the top is that we have made signings like Vin BAker, Mo Taylor, Howard Eisley, JJ1 etc. These are mistakes of Layden and Isiah which have put us out of position to get the Ben Wallace's of the world. Now it is finally being recognized and Isiah is changing his original course of action. But I don't think it's too weird for a fan like Fishmike to be skeptical and wonder if he will stay on this path or if he will trade more youth in a blockbuster. It's been done a few times before so it's not too far fetched. Does this make a fan like Fishmike not a fan? No. That's ridiculous. Relax, the guy has been posting with me for 5 years. I'm not the smartest guy in the shed but I will say that probably makes him a fan. Fishmike's opinion to me doesn't make him any less of a fan than anyone here. To me what it makes him is......observant.

I just find it funny that guys like fishmike say things like we need to get defensive players/role players in here and trim the fat of the "superstars". Guys like fishmike ask for changes to the roster. The over-positive people tell guys like Fishmike to shut up and stop being pessimistic and that everyone on our team is great "just you watch" "We don't need anyone else, our team is great". "You aren't a fan because you don't like our roster as is". Then when Isiah goes out and does what guys like Fishmike have been asking for the overly positive people say "see I told you Isiah had a plan".

I just find that funny.
I just hope that people will like me

We once calculated Isiah added over $200mm in future salary since coming here. That doesnt included luxury tax, and that was before trading for Francis, Jalen Rose and adding Jefferies. If someone wants to look into it and figure out how much additional $$$ he's taken on since being here I bet the figure is $250-$300mm, and thats pre-tax. We should be looking at a roster full of young high lottery caliber prospects on the roster right now with $25mm in cap space coming at the end of the year. Instead we are hoping and praying Eddie Curry shows up in shape to play.

But why focus on the obvious negative. Hey.. we got Balkman. Me like. I smell round 2. Go Isiah.

Are you a new knicks fan?????? LOL

j/k

I like the JJ2 signing, just hope he's worth an extra $5 a ticket or whatever he's gonna cost the fans.

Ticket prices will only go up if he's costing more money than he's helping to bring in

Do you really think Jared Jeffries is going to be able to bring in an extra $12 MM a year by his lonesome? Let's get real.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

This upcoming season is being played under ridiculous circumstances. Isiah has an ultimatum hanging over his head and I assume that if we give Chicago another lottery pick, he's going to get the axe. Therefore, the Knicks have only one option -- WIN and make the playoffs. Considering the circumstances and the makeup of the team, the Knicks will probably go for a blockbuster deal. Seeing as how our only players of value are our prized young pieces. I expect that we will lose some combination of: Frye, Lee, Nate and/or Crawford.

If this were a regular season (with no ultimatum and no impending pick swap) -- I'd say the Knicks should stand pat and let the young guys develop. But there's almost no chance that happens now.

Now, why would you hope not. That's so negative of you. Don't you think if Isiah made a move for Kenyon that it would be the best possible move for the Knicks? Afterall, it comes off like you think Isiah can do no wrong.

Exactly; if they make one playoff series, then that should far more than make up for it (countin not just ticket sales but all the money spent by more enthusiastic fans who would have a playoff team to root for). It doesn't affect me since I watch rather than attend the games, though. If I went to only one game, I wouldn't care about the $5 increase suggested above. If I were wealthy enough to be a season ticket holder, I wouldn't care about the $200 increase for the entire season.

Some of you negative guys just kill me. What is the problem? In less than 3 full years Isiah has turned this team over and made it better. We actually have a future. I LIKE THIS TEAM. I don't care what Chicago did this offseason, this Knicks team in fewer years has in my mind improved at a faster pace than Chicago did. We won't be giving them any kind of lottery pick this year. This Knicks team is gonna win too many games for a Lottery pick to be in the picture.

From start to finish in games this team will have NO SCRUBS on the floor. Even at the end of our bench we have capable players. We're as deep as any team in the league and I think by the end of this season, no one will want to play us. We'll be that dangerous. We've got the Scorers, Defenders, Size, Speed and Youth. You can see that Isiah is excited about this team. I think the players will be too.

Let's Make Some Things Perfectly Clear

>>Afterall, it comes off like you think Isiah can do no wrong.

eVil - while we're at it, add Bonzi Wells to the list of players I don't want on the Knicks

Don't want Jumaine Jones either

Always liked Rashard Lewis

Didn't like Jalen Rose as a Pacer

Tolerate him as a Knick

Don't like Alonzo 'cause he tussled with LJ

Don't want Lorenzen Wright, Eddie Jones, Theo Ratliff or Michael Wright

Love Starks madly

Hated that Charles Smith missed all those layups

Liked Oak, even met him over lunch

Never liked Al Bianchi or John McLeod for trading Mark Jackson

Liked Spree as a Knick, didn't like him as a cursing Timberwolf in front of too many kids

Don't like the post game prayer circle, especially if half the team participates

Dig the hell outta Frye, Lee, Jeffries and Curry upfront

Lukewarm on Mo Taylor 'cause he doesn't look, Malik Rose because he thinks he has a J and Jerome James until he plays with some passion

Like Steve Francis because I love a good story

Wish Jackie Butler well in san antonio until he plays NY

Love Qyntel, shook hands with Ernie Grunfeld and know Ed Tapscott's sister

Don't like people with no sense of humor

Like Isiah for being aggressive and not afraid to change

Don't think he's perfect
