if any of you have Summer League video, you really must watch it...the defensive responsibilities of the team rest in the Small Foward.

The two GAURDS simply try to keep the ball in front of them switching in a zone like manner. They switch when the ball handler crosses back and forth around the court.

If he breaks down the defense towards the wing, he's headed for the Small Forward or the other guard. If he breaks it down the middle, it's the bigs and shot blockers.

But the SF is there to help on the rotating big.

The defense is focused in the front court, not the back courth.

The have adequate defense for that that defensive set.

It's in the same vein as how riley used the knicks and utilized the box and 1 defense to move his best defender with the ball and have everyone else match up accordingly.

A defense designed for the personel.

I like Francis and I know he means well. But he didn't give us a professional effort last year. I can't give him the benefit of the doubt until he gets it done. That's just me. It's on Stevie to get rid of the stigma, not the fans, not anyone else. It's up to him to accept his role and play his asse off no matter how many minutes he gets. As far as I know if he doesn't start and get 35+ minutes a night he wants to be traded. His effort last year backed that up. That's all I have to go on right now.

If Francis does not get at least 33 minutes, you can be guaranteed he is going to be a problem. That is the reason he is going to start. IT cannot get rid of him, and Francis is not going to play well unless he starts. So IT has no chioce but to play him and hope: (1) that the Franbury backcourt works out, and (2)that Francis can increase his trade value so that IT can move him in a deal that does not kill us.

You just can't judge everyone on their performance last year.

If that was how we judge players, then FLB would never get rehired ever again.

judge francis on how he played with mobley both in houston and orlando.
judge marbury on how he's played his entire career.
judge FLB on his body of work before the knicks.

But to keep using last year as a measuring stick is pure fools gold. IMHFO.

lets hope, like marbury, that last year was a reality check for them. francis and marbury's reputation have been dragged through the mud with the media and lb. marbury is smart to do damage control on his and it has to show on the court. francis must do the same thing. he has come around for van gundy that one year and sacrificed his game even though he was resistant at first. he became an all-star and gave the lakers a scare in the first round. true he was traded (for mcgrady no less) but with the right coach with limits and mutual respect, he can be good. with that said, i do agree that he is not suited for our team only because it will impede on the progress of our young players. lets not be delusional, we are not going to win championships with starbury and francis being our best player. but with a nucleus of maybe frye, curry, crawford and nate, it might be a possibility in the future if they mature and get better.

I agree with you 100%. Last year hopefully was an anomoly. But you also have to understand that people are using their careers to judge them. Nobody who knows bball is questioining Francis or Marbs ability. They are very talented players. What they are questioning is their ability to win. That's all NY'ers care about. And until these players win they will be harshly judged. That's just life.

I'm rooting for both of them. They've been biotching and moaning to have teammates next to them that can play. Now they have each other so that excuse is gone. It really only takes two all-star caliber players to be a competitive team. IF these two guys come in dedicated to winning and willing to sacrifice some numbers for the good of the team than things are really looking up. But in the end IT IS UP TO THEM TO CHANGE THE MINDS OF THEIR DETRACTORS. Until they produce they will always be questioned. That's life.
