crzy, the Yankees are paying Abreu the same amount as they're paying ARod... just so you know.

it's a perception thing. I know it, you know it, but most fans think of Arod they think 10yrs, $250 million dollars. most fans probably don't even know how much Abreu is making.

all it takes is winning. You win here, your embraced here. Its not rocket science. There was no warming periods for Spree or LJ. They came in and performed at high levels their first time into the playoffs here.

Marbury's first playoff here he was embarrased by Kidd. We all know the Knicks had no shot, but did Marbury distinguish himself? Did he have 30-35 point games like Houston and Spree? Hell, Frank Williams showed more toughness than Marbury in that series. Now this isnt an anti Marbury rant, just an example of why fans are cold to a guy and warm to another. I dont care about stats or flashy plays. What impresses me is guys that find a way to win.

New York fans are vet babies so they know what every single player is making.

Thing with arod is he will get his stats when the yanks don't really need it. But he will go 0-4 when the yanks do. Already abreu already won a game by scoring from first. He has been getting on base and moving guys. He has been great and in the mix of the yanks new look. Arod is still strugling. Beltran was terrible last year but now the guy is a lethal hitter now. Arod should be having that same type of impact. He has yet to show that he can come through and be a big part of a big yankee rally. Damon does it all the time, he's not a Boston sideshow .

How can I forget crawfords game winners!?! Yeah craw is a knick he just has to pull his antics off when the team is playoff bound.

Also I just want to say this thread is ment to be about current ny players. We can talk the past though.

Fans are stupid.

They only parrot what the press writes and rarely develop any original line of thinking besides what dreck to trade for another teams treasure.

The press is stupid.

They resent the ballplayers for the money they make and are stuck repeating each other just to make a deadline. Their reporting is based on one thing, selling newspapers.

The number of journalists can be counted on one hand.

Come on Fish...marbury was all by himself that playoff series...he got doubled in the back court to take the ball out of his hands because that was how you beat the knicks.

Get off marbury.

did you even watch that series, we lost tim thomas in the first game, houston was hurt...that's 2/3rds of the starting offense, his SG and SF.

Come on man...get off marbury for Pete's sake!!!

Oh, frank williams, you mean getting suspended by pushing kidd...yeah, that's tough.
where is frank williams now?

obviously, what impresses you is losing your composure when your team is losing. If you are placing frank williams above marbs in that series.

I can't wait for hte season to start...this is killing me.

See this is the reason NY fans have a reputation of being narrowminded & having tunnel vision when it comes to certain players... Abreu's helped us win what, 5 games since he's been here, & you already refer to him as a true Yankee... ARod's going on his 3rd season in pinstripes, has won an MVP award & has helped this team win many times more games than Abreu has, & yet you say he only gets his stats when the Yanks don't need it... that's the mindset that ARod haters seem to cling to it seems... take a look at his actual #'s when there are RISP & his GW RBI's since he's been a Yankee & tell me how you can possibly justify these statements... too many fans follow along w/what ESPN & the baseball tonight crew tells them it seems.

sorry for making this into an ARod thread, but i get highly annoyed when people say he never comes through when the team needs him to when he actually has on several occasions in the past... has he come through in the most clutch of moments in the biggest of postseason games? no, he hasn't... that's 1 point i can't argue... neither has Abreu, neither has Sheffield, neither has Randy Johnson... all of those guys are being paid comparable dollars by the Yankees as ARod... if you're going to bash Arod, at least be consistent & bash those other guys as well... none of them have helped this team win anything significant either.
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

I am a Mariner fan and I say "let the bashing continue". Arod blows.
I just hope that people will like me

Part of the problem has been roster turnover and a having no consistent core of guys who've been together for while. Every year we have a different team & a different coach.

Guys not only have to be good, they have to be good as a team, and everyone has to more or less buy into the system. We just haven't had that during this Post-Ewing "rebuilding" period.

Hopefully that starts to change this year. They won't be real Knicks until they've been through some real wars together.

crzy, the Yankees are paying Abreu the same amount as they're paying ARod... just so you know.

The Yankees are actually paying Jeter MORE than they are actually shelling out to ARod. I think Jeter is making like 24 million or something like that.

Texas will pay $67 million of the $179 million left on Rodriguez's $252 million, 10-year contract, the most cash included in a trade in major league history. The Rangers get All-Star second baseman Alfonso Soriano and a player to be named -- but they also will pay Rodriguez through 2025.http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1735937, 2004.

1. Alex Rodriguez 25,680,727
2. Derek Jeter 20,600,000
3. Jason Giambi 20,428,571
4. Mike Mussina 19,000,000
5. Randy Johnson 15,661,427
6. Bobby Abreu 13,600,000
7. Johnny Damon 13,000,000
8. Hideki Matsui 13,000,000
9. Jorge Posada 12,000,000
10. Gary Sheffield 10,756,171
11. Mariano Rivera 10,500,000
12. Carl Pavano 8,000,000
13. Jaret Wright 7,666,667
14. Kyle Farnsworth 5,416,667
15. Cory Lidle 3,300,000
16. Craig Wilson 3,300,000
17. Ron Villone 2,250,000
18. Octavio Dotel 2,000,000
19. Bernie Williams 1,500,000
20. Tanyon Sturtze 1,500,000
21. Mike Myers 1,150,000
22. Miguel Cairo 1,000,000
23. Sidney Ponson 1,000,000
24. Sal Fasano 425,000
25. Robinson Cano 381,100
26. Nick Green 356,700
27. Scott Proctor 353,675
28. Chien-Ming Wang 353,175
29. Andy Phillips 331,150
Total Team Salary: 198,662,180
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/teams/salaries?team=nyy
Arod is only listed at 25 because that is what his salary has to count against the Yankees even though they don't pay him that full amount.
