weve seen the man give back and he was emotionally reduced after the katrina incident yet...ppl still doubt how charitable this man was, he donated 2.5 million to the katrina incident and he vowed that he would make sure kids that were missing parents or parents who were dead, he would make sure that they would have a home once again, yet ppl still find a way to bash him even ehen he shows generosity

There are only three things you need to know about Marbury, all numbers:

20 points per game
8 assists per game
3rd best selling NBA jersey.

https:// It's not so hard.

that's why i said i give the man props for what he does OFF the court in terms of giving back to the community... what he does when it comes to basketball & his NBA career disgusts me to tell u the truth, but that's another topic & we can bash on the guy for those aspects irrespective of his charitable work, which are completely unrelated aspects.

They're probably cheap garbage that won't support your ankles well in basketball.

I wonder how many children are locked up in some damp basement in china sewing up those cheap sneaks.

I hope Towelbury had the good sense to look into who makes them kicks!

ITs great that he can give urban kids a chance to wear them, but as a citizan of the world must respect the children whom are abused and taken advantage of.

I'm pretty sure no one in the corporate world gives 2 craps about poverty stricken kids working in sweat shops in 3rd world countries to make these products... otherwise, corporations like Nike & Reebok wouldn't be nearly as big as they are today... it's a sad statement on society today, but in the end, greed always wins out... at least in Marbury's case, greed doesn't seem to be the motivating factor here... in this case anyway.

Im not really taken in by Starburys public display of generocity as its pretty much a media event when ever he does somthing.

certainly better than nothing. Giving away haircuts and cheap sneaks ain't like building a community center, a hospital or a scholarship fund.

IM watching the games and still waiting for a reason to like him other than the promise of him bringing it on year in and year out.

Do you hold other players to that same standard?

NO, but they don't make the money nor talk themselves up as much as he does.

I thought it was 500k he "PLEDGED". No doubt its a good thing.

Marbs is the center of his own controversy. A-Rod is an MVP player whom exists on a higher plane cuz his contract is crazy. Guys like Iverson and Spreewell were also controversial but were liked by their teamates and were coachable on the court. I have no problem with Marbury off the court at all. But its what is done on the court that matters. He is not a celeberty with it.

THus, I think he is celebrated as a hero and his elevated celeberty status becasue he is rich and puts up numbers. His teams don't succeed with him on the court. Sure he does not have the support but he seems to also not enhance what he has, but is more disruptive and almost makes those around him worse.

And I still hope it all works out.

Lets look at Clyde. The man is not a great announcer, has a high voice and still is loved. Why, cuz of what he did on the court. The fashion and cool off the court was legend but it was born ON THE COURT!

H20 was graceful and played with class and his foundation work is also done at a high level.

Guys like Rodman and spree can be jerks or clowns off the court, but when they played they were great teammates and played the team game. Marbury in my opinion is a good guy and his contributions are nice. IT just does not resinate the same sincerity because of who he is when in a knick uniform.

TMS, I always knew about Nike and the child labor which is why I've refused to buy anything from them. Didn't know about Reebok though. Not that they have many bball shoes on the shelves anymore in the first place. But with that being said, it's so hard for me to find a pair of shoes that will be good for me b/c one of my feet is slightly bigger than the other, and I have big feet! So lately I've thought about looking into Nike shoes, but with that said, I still think that the child labor is flat out evil.

Just to refresh everyone's memory...
Marbury also donated 1 Million of his own money to Katrina victims.
Say what you will about the basketball player, but the man is a good guy.

Don't get me wrong... i'm not trying to act holier than thou in criticizing those corporations... God knows I've purchased Nike products before & had no qualms about it when i was standing in line at Footlocker... i'm just saying, Greed is what drives this world we live in... it's nice to see an instance where greed doesn't seem to be the motivating factor for a change.
