If I could swap mardy collins for walker russel jr. I'd do it in a second.

Collins is here to bring something we don't have yet - a defender. he looked better as the SL went on. LaMarcus Aldridge looked like crap until the final summer league game - it takes time to adjust. Collins will be fine, he was considered a near lotto talent at one point and a top 20 pick heading into the draft. He brings perimeter defense. we need it.

yeah I guess Im not too upset becuase, channing frye actually looked pretty mediocre in summer league last season and actually played better in the nba. so I havent closed the book on collins yet, but it certainly doesnt look good so far.

After all that reading, the one thing that stood out to me was the suggestion that Phoenix regretted over paying Richardson (after one year) and immediately traded him to the Knicks. Makes us sound like a dumping ground.....

Well, we dumped Kurt Thomas on them, didn't we?

yeah, I agree.

most surprising busts in summer league: Shelden Williams and LaMarcus Aldridge. LaMarcus will be okay as he gets stronger, but Shelden's play is shocking so far. he won't need to do much more than defend on the Hawks, but 8ppg on 33% shooting...whew!

also, not quite sure how the Knicks qualify as "Muddy Waters" when he had nothing but good things to say about everyone but Mardy Collins.

I thought Chad did a great job of analyzing the whole thing. That was a solid piece. I agree with him, Balkman played well at times[way better than Collins imho] but I dont know how or where you play him at the nba level, and that we did indeed make a dumb mistake bypassing better talent to reach for balkman who we couldve had at 29. Collins was not as bad as Sheldan Williams or Aldridge if you take into consideration that they were picked so high, but Collins wa definitely one of just a few 1st round guys who did not perform well. Anyone who watched the SL knows that Collins played poor, not iff's about it. He was bad.

Balkman is a baller. Your making it too technical. Just put him on the floor and his energy will impact his team in a positive way.

What position should Rodman have played? How about Bonzi? Ceballos? Anthony Mason? Jerome Williams? Thios guys are heady/high energy ball players that find away to impact the game.

With all that said, play Balkman at SF

this "where do you play him" is ridiculous. he's a SF. he'll be fine against 90% of the SFs in the league. if there's a bigger guy like Ron Artest or someone, we have DLee.

I really hope DLee and Balkman get the majority of minutes at SF this season, but I expect QRich will get some, too.

i'm not too upset either. the two complaints about collins seem to be that we drafted him to be our sixth guard, and that he doesn't look ready to contibute. so what's th big deal? get him practicing, playing in garbage time, whatever, by the time he's really ready we can clear out the crap from our backcourt. this year's trading deadline or two offseasons from now, we can wait.

Yeah, we did. However, there were a few other teams that expressed interest in Kurt Thomas, (Dallas) and if we would have waited, we probably could have gotten Marquis Daniels out of them.

hmmm. I'd much rather have Nate than Marquis Daniels.

I don't know about that. I'm still shocked Dallas gave up on Daniels. unless he stopped working once he got a relatively big paycheck or something...

No way. Daniels would be much more valuable to this team than Nate.

Collins looked bad, but like someone else said, he looked nervous. I think that he can become a pretty good player if his shooting improves. He is smart with the basketball, has a cross-over dribble to get into the lane, is a solid defender, and seems like a good kid. I think he will be fine after a couple years of seasoning.

The Daniels of 2004 would probably fit this team better than Nate, although I think Nate has a lot of potential. However, the Daniels of 2005 would be a downgrade. We will see this year which Daniels shows up to play in Indiana.

One more thing, what is Atlanta doing? Sheldon Willams over Foye when they needed a PG. They should have traded down with New Orleans and picked up Marcus Williams and Amstrong, or draft Foye and signed a guy like Wilcox or Reggie Evans. They would have been better off.
