breaking people's habits at thi stage in their career = UNLIKELY

the apples off the tree have a legit chance.

the ones in the barrell = pipe dream.

In Indy the vets were mostly discarded or roles diminished for moldable 21 and 22 year olds . here we're relying on guys 6,7, 9 years in the league that are pretty much set in their ways.

Things like getting Steph to release the ball early and come down and set screens run plays on the baseline or set up in the corners is something that has to be proven Isiah could do on the court.

exactly... well said... i don't begrudge the optimism some of you have for this team, but to expect that they'll suddenly transform the vets into a team oriented unit playing unselfishly & hustling on defense for a consistent run next season is a pipe dream at best... to expect Isiah Thomas to suddenly transform this sorry team from last year into a serious playoff contender or anything above a barely average team is also reaching imho... the reason i was happy to see Isiah named head coach was not because i believe he can lead this team to a championship, but that i wanted to finally stop w/the excuses & have him be held accountable for the roster he put together... now we will really see just how much of a "man" Stephon Marbury has become... as someone said earlier, there are no more excuses for this guy... it's do or die & i can't wait to hear what other excuses he can come up with if he fails to meet the expectations that many Knick fans seem to have for this team next year.
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

Everyone on the roster under the age of 26 and marbury.

We're not too concerned with the "vets".
We're only concerned about players under the age of 26 and marbury.

everyone else came with a pick and/or is expiring this/next year.

There was never a plan to include them in the future of the knicks franchise.

That's the 5 rookies, qrich, curry, crawford and marbury.

Everyone else is exactly as you say they are, old dogs.

if magically 1 or 2 "vets" play better, then everyone has to admit that this team will be much much improved.
all kool aid all the time.

uh... no. Marbury will be front and center this season. He'll probably drop 30pts and 15asts on opening night to celebrate Larry being gone.

Then 10 days later claim his rightful place(in his eyes) as "Best PG in the NBA" I have seen that act and I am tired of him.

he's certainly one of the best. he says stupid stuff, you're going to have to get over it. would you prefer to have a bunch of guys who didn't think they were the best? that doesn't sound like a very competitive team to me. this is sports, everyone who goes out there should believe they're the best.

There really isn't any dispute that for most of his career Steph has been one of the top PG's in the league. He still is. The only issue is that we really haven't had much of a team around him yet. I expected that last year would be the beginning of us putting a good team around him and I still believe that the players we have can function at a VERY high level offensively and at a decent level defensively. That's about all anyone can hope for unless they are the rare defensive team that we have in this league. ie Detroit and Chicago. Every other team is also only Decent to good, but not great defensively. Still you can win if you function at a high level. This is what was missing last year. We already KNEW that we didn't have the defensive players, but since LB is an AWFUL offensive coach then he really couldn't help this team at all as constructed. This is why he wanted such sweeping change. The thing is all he had to do was be patient and change on some level would happen. He was just too old to have that kind of patience. Now we don't have that problem. Isiah is young and ready to go to war with these guys.

Some of you guys make it seem like Steph CAN'T play winning basketball, which is a farce. He's been on winning teams before, but he's NEVER been on a GREAT team. So how much winning do you expect he'd do on say the Nets at that time? The Knicks have been in constant transition and this is the 1st time we'll go into a year with MOST of the same players. So I find your pessimism unwarranted. Its not gonna be like last year at all. Isiah gets these guys in camp and works on getting them to grasp the new system and we'll see a much different team.

Last year teams ZONED us to death, cuz they knew our limited offensive attack would be shut down. Now we're not stagnant. The players will be in constant motion and with all the dangerous offensive players we have that will totally confuse many teams defensively. We have the young guys who will be a MUCH bigger part of this thing this year. Those guys are ball movers and have the athletic ability to execute the cuts and moves this offense calls for.
Why some of you are so stuck on he old vets is beyond me! They have no future here!!! 2 of them are GONE already, they just haven't been set free yet. All we need to be concerned with are the younger players that will truly be a part of this going forward.

Good post.

Right away this team is better. How can anyone now be excited about what they are hearing and seeing. Yeah some of it you can argue is msg trying to give the knivks something to look forward too buy you gotta say that it sounds awesome and it lookied awesome in summer league.

Yeah a 38 win team is much improved from this year. Will it be a mild sucsess? Yes. Begining this year, the knicks will have the foundation and identity to build on. Its totally new to is ewing era babies.

How do I know it will work? I don't buy st the same time all the nay sayers are just funding more ways to shoot down the knicks.

I think guys are playing the odds. Why root or follow a team if you can't believe in them? I mean the knivks were in the finals in 1999. Teams can win forever. I believe the knicks will show us something worth cheering next year and we will be back st a championship level inside 3 years. Yes isiah will be here I dunno about the rest but I believe in the knicks.

It looks like there are 3 players that the member of the UKHC (Ultimate Knicks Haters Club) are targeting their anger at and are using over and over and over and over as their reason that zeke sucks at his job...

Jerome James
full MLE (too many years) came into camp absolutely out of shape, is on a short leash and without a doubt is on the shape up or be shipped out leash.

MoTaylor
(expiring contract), another player that came into camp out of shape, his main flaw is that he holds the ball too long in the post, but he comes into camp in shape, grasps the offense and couples that with his ability to always knock down the open jumper and his defensive hustle to take a charge (force turnover) make him another candidate for the hurry up or you are out of here train.

Malik Rose
(undersized hustling player coach) Well, I have no idea what to make of Malik. He's expiring next year and he came with David Lee (used in the pick acquired with him). Expensive player, but still could be of some use defensively. But, again, not really part of our future with his contract expiring next year.

There are also the usualy I hate [marbury/curry/isiah/dolan] statements when we bring up the under 26 future core of the knicks, but for the most part, this is the summary of everyone's gloom and doom and why it seems to indicate to them that next year will SUCK IMHO.

Ofcourse, there are those, like suddenly this week, that will bring up the random playerhating of the week and say things like frye and lee can't play defense or bring up again the balkman draft position, but these are fools gold arguments because everyone outside of the UKHC know that this is all crazy talk.
