This whole thread is ridiculous because a lot of people here were furious not only when we drafted Frye, but when we drafted David Lee as well. Now Lee looks like a burgeoning star and as much of a steal at 30 as Josh Howard was.

But people didn't want Lee. A lot folks wanted Taft or Blatche or Gomes. Yet now that we're playing revisionist, Of COURSE we would have taken Lee. Gimme a break.

I remember feeling confused more than furious. And it subsided in about a day when we all did our homework.

okay. I remember a lot of folks being very upset. I was confused when we drafted Balkman, but again felt better after looking up some scouting reports and video reels.

the point is that it's ridiculous to play draft revisionist because as much scouting as any of us does, it really has no bearing on how a guy will perform in the league. and hindsight makes it very easy to figure things out. but check out the team the Hawks could've built over the years with a little hindsight. or the Warriors. the Pistons wouldn't feel so bad now if they'd drafted Wade over Darko. etc on in to infinity...

Or Melo. Interesting thought about what they'd be doing now if they had drafted either of those two.
I wonder what role they'd have on that team. Wonder how they would have developed, if at all.
Then of course, by now they'd either have to trade Melo/Wade
or the guy that is starting in that position now, either Rip or Prince.
What a terrible choice Darko was...

If they drafted Bynum then I think Isiah would have been satisfied with signing Jerome James with the midlevel instead of giving what he did for Curry.

This thread wasn't mean't to be taken to seriously though. Just playing with Briggs over the thought that we could have landed 3 guys he coverted. Then it turned something different.

or even if they picked bosh - they could've brought him off the bench and then this year, losing ben, gone with a lineup of chauncey, rip, tayshaun, bosh, and sheed.

I see what you're ssaying but I think this is unnecessarily confounding the Frye/Bynum debate with the awful Curry trade. Maybe Isiah could have just been smart enough to get some protection on the draft pick; then we'd have Channing, Curry, and Ty Thomas!

paxson said protection was a deal breaker (as you should have already assumed). so its either curry OR tyrus thomas. although, I'd choose thomas despite the fact that he hasnt played in the nba yet, simply becuase Im not a huge curry fan, and think TT will be better. but hindsight is 20/20, who knew brown was gonna go crazy and tank the season, Im sure Isiah didnt when he made the trade. although I wouldt have made the curry trade anyway, becuase of the heart issue. and there were other cheaper ways to fill the need at center that offseason.

Who knows if what Paxson says is true but lack of lottery protection should have been a deal-breaker--for US!
