I think Gus and Clyde were shocked by his immaturity, and stupidity. In my opinion they were trying to end the interview for awhile to stop the guy from embarassing himself. I think the description, "a twenty year old trying to find himself" fits.

Heres what was valuable from an objective perspective:

where is:

him being a bit uneasy about playing for his "friend"

You have way too much Marbury hate. I honestly don't hear an inarticulate person when I listen to Marbury.

hahahahahahah. Come on man....come on.

Someone here said that he is way to dumb to lead this pack into a championship, and I agree with that. I still like Marbury's game and I still dont mind having him on the team, but our coach is going to have to be the leader.

Well, MisterClutch, that's what I'm getting at. I remember reading somewhere recently - Marbury's a fabulous scorer and athlete at the PG position, but is merely good as a PG.

What you get out of Marbury is just another player - not a floor leader or a leader. He doesn't come across as charming or hard working or team first.

He doesnt come across as charming...well okay I guess i can agree with you on that one, but what does that have to do with bball. If that means your not gonna take him to the movies b/c hes not charming thats fine. However, I dont think I would say hes doesnt work hard or only cares about his stats. I know he works extremely hard during the offseason with his conditioning. He is always in phenomenal shape. Last year, I saw him look to pass more in Larry Brown's scheme and try to be the traditional pg he wanted. I think Steph wants to win as bad as anyone and is always working hard to do that, and is willing to do whatever works. But he has proved he isnt a leader that everyone wants him to be.

The only way you can not hear an inarticulate person when Marbury is talking, is if you have the volume off. Even then, closed captioning should fill it in.

I guess this is one of example, how if you want to believe something, you can convince yourself of anything. I guess if you try hard enough, you can also convince yourself that the Knicks are the reigning champs.

In this country, people make assumptions about your inttelect based on your speaking ability.

There is no cause and effect relationship. Marbury is not an eloquent speaker, but that doesn't make him dumb, or uninteligent.

Magic Johnson isn't the best speaker either, but he has sure found away to make millions of dollars in business deals post basketball. I don't know if that is someone you would want to characterize as dumb.

Lets not compare Stephon Marbury and Magic Johnson. Magic Johnson is one of the best leaders in NBA history and won NBA titles. Marbury has done nothing close to that.

All we've said is he *sounds* inarticulate. Nobody said he's dumb. Can you deny that he makes himself sound dumber than he probably really is?

I don't think he's dumb. I don't think he would've lasted all these years in the league if he was. But he sounds dumb when he talks, which is why, he should either work on that, or keep it to a minimum.

Actually you know what, I just noticed someone above did say he's dumb.

Ok, I guess the response was directed at that comment. Oops.

Correction....I called him an idiot when it comes to knowing when to shut up...noone's going to change my mind because that is what he is when speaking publically. He doesn't know when to shut himself up and he says some extremely stupid things.

you don't have to make an assumuption but you sure can make an assessment. I mean, how else do you make a judgement? It's certainly not the whole picture but it plays a part.

And I think there is a big difference between Magic and Marb. BIG gap.

Speaking may determine how educated you are, but it certainly has nothing to do with inteligence..

Big Gap between Marb's and Magic? I used Magic to illustrate my point, which many of you apparently missed.

Don't illustrate your point about Stephon Marbury with a multiple time NBA champion and one of the best leaders the NBA has ever seen. Stephon Marbury fits none of the above.

Speaking wise, he's definitely got a significant edge on Marbury. I don't see how Magic illustrates your point. I think it's a reach (much like the Balkman pick).

Fellows,

Magic has almost certainly taken speaking classes, etc. to improve his use of the language. Anyone remember when he first got into broadcasting? He did not speak like an English professor.

oohah

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

Magic's speaking classes didn't help his late night talk show....Any time your show is equateable to the "Chevy Chase Show", you gots some problems.

Marbury is flat out stupid. Anyone that says otherwise is probably stupider. As far as assumptions go, you assumed he was throwing gang signs. What led you to that assumption? Was it because he's brilliant? What kind of idiot goes on TV as the face of his franchise and portrays himself in that manner. He came off like a moron.

Maybe being articulate is not a pre-req to being smart, but damn, this dude has some phrases that are point blank retarded and he uses them over and over. "If I play how the way I know how to play." Move over Maya Angelou, here comes Starbury.

I don't care how I get labeled for saying this. I'm being real here. I'm not gonna soften my stance because it's not nice to call people stupid. The guy is dumb in so many ways beyond illiteracy. Don't be blind just because a lot of cats like to dick ride him for his ballin' skills. Whether or not he can ball productively for a winning program is a different debate. The fact that we are arguing his intelligence is comical.

(Sorry Killa. This ain't directed at you personally. I know you're the premier social scientist of this day and age. I don't want to call anyone here stupid actually. I'm just being a bit over the top to emphasize how strongly I disagree.)

An equatable comparison would be Kenyon Martin. Hey, maybe they'll both be on our team next year. Then we can really get our fill of (gangsta tone), "Know wut I'm sayin'?"

MAgic was a horrible broadcaster (which is why he didn't last, because everyone loves him) and he was even worse as the host of a show (The Magic Hour). I am glad I'm not the only one who remembers this. Magic has said things far worse than Marbury has ever said, grammar wise.

Magic has said things like:
"When you jump off of 2 feets"
"All the big mens with the strong bodies"

As a black man (or adolescent), I was horrified that someone thought it was a good idea to have him on TV. It was a reflection on all of us, imo (if you don't get it don't worry about it).

Magic has made huge leaps and bounds, and still leaves a little to be desired, although he is passable right now.

I love how everyone wants to bring up championships, etc. I was talking about speech.

Thanks guy for being dense enough or hateful enough to make sure that you miss the point.
