I wouldn't mind having butler, but I'm not gonna really care if he leaves. He could develop into a decent backup center, but I don't think he'll be anything really special. No way should we overpay for him, especially since we have curry locked in long term as our center for the future.

this is confusing to me. The knicks currently a very confused organization with way too many players. If Jackie has offers from other teams AND if he thinks he can get better playing time, why bother with the Knicks? Just get the deal and leave or get the deal and see it matched.

Exactly! Isiah discovered Jackie when no one was thinking about him. Now his agent wants to play hardball? Jackie, if teams want you so bad then why can't you just move on and get paid?

I don't think that Glass is acting in Butler's best interests.

Glass knows that Zeke badly wants Jackie back... he invested a lot of Aguire's coaching into this kid and sees remarkable improvement, incredible hands, toughness and upside... Glass knows Zeke wants him in camp with the other kids, that is why Glass instructed Butler not to show up... he is forcing Zekes hand for when to start negotiating...
Glass know that Zeke will not let this kid slip away over $$ after he overpaid dearly for JJ last year.

The Knicks don't really have to negotiate. The Knicks can match any offer from another team.

The agent knows that Zeke found this guy, and that Zeke wants him, but this is the most bizarre strategy.

I like Jackie, but hes an undersized C. He's about 6-9 and change. I think he showed some really nice moves in the post, and he sucks on D, but will improve. I don't think its anything critical if he finds another home. If teams are willing to pay him a little more, maybe we can force a s&t for another young prospect?

I think of Jackie more as a power forward than a center. A backup center is really what Larry had him play. I agree with you, he does have good moves but his defense is almost nowhere to be found. It will be interest to see where Jackie ends up because I doubt he will be here.

Butler would probably still be in the NBDL if Isiah didn't pick him up. So Butler has to learn how to make decisions for himself. We will see if other teams do really want him.

oh, interesting. I would do it in a second. I bet Seattle would want Nate too. I would throw him in if we got an extra first rounder.

obviously, the agent must be fibbing, or they're trying to get the knicks to drive their offer up

I don't think Keith learned anything from his pop. Why do this when, in all honesty, the Knicks have a better replacement on the S/L team in Adeleke? He'll do everything Butler does plus he is a good scorer (he averaged 20 and 13 in his senior year).

Word to Keith-You can only use hardball tactics when YOU have the upper hand!

I agree, it is like trying to play hardball with a man who is holding a gun to your head and all you have is pepper spray..... not very good...

Jackie Butler is a poor man's Moses Malone. I wouldn't trade him. Mardy Collins is a very good 29 pick, but these cats on real GM who think Balkman is actually going to start and be an impact player are going to be quite surprised soon enough. To think we spent 40mm on Balkman is mind-boggling.

I agree with you Biggs we have to keep Butler. For one I have no trust in Jerome....but besides that Butler's offensive game is so smooth and he is only 21. Plus he looks like a poor mans Old Dirty Bastard. Trading him and Crawford for just Wilcox is too much in my eyes. Ive seen Collins play alot since I went to GW, which was in the A-10. He is definetly a solid player. I know nothing of Balkman....but he better have promise. Isiah is usually on point when it comes to picking talent.

I'm sorry....Jackie Butler is a poor man's Moses Malone???? The same Moses Malone who dominated the ABA/NBA for a good portion of his 20 year career. Wow, that might be the silliest thing I've read on this site. Come on Briggs, you're smarter than that.

If you want to compare him to somebody in that era, I'm thinking Clemon Johnson or Eddie Lee Wilkins.

That's nothing. Renaldo Balkman is a rich man's combo of Ron Artest and Dennis Rodman.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Im going to wait for judgement on this against NBA players, but I think Balkman might be on par with any NBDL talent.

Butler has a similar build to Moses. Country strong, long arms, nice touch, undersized but makes up for it with thos eother intagibles. A poor man is someone who can put up 1/2 the numbers of the star player. There is a resmblence in body and game, but in essence half production, which would still be nice.

The NY Post made a scandalous choice of words. Instead of "refused"... they could have said that Butler *declined* an offer to join the summer league roster, or that Butler opted not to join the summer league roster.

As someone mentioned earlier, this could be happening at his agents request. Maybe they're worried about him getting injured, without a contract, in meaningless summer game?

This is same reason Al Harrington wasn't playing in Rucker a few weeks back. Kinda risky from that point of view I guess..
