Wow, if this is true, great move for the Bulls. They'll be one of the top teams in the east next year and thereafter.

<sarcasm>It's amazing that the Bulls pulled this off, even though we all know that cap space isn't important.</sarcasm>
<sarcasm>
95+% of the time it isn't with superstars! No one said 100%<sarcasm>

Spin away.

Hey I still want the Knicks to get under the cap (which will never happen); I just don't ignore the history of free agency.

I think playing for Skiles, who is a defensive minded coach, factored into his decision as well.

I think the correct question is, minues Ben Wallace will they win even one playoff game?

Bulls gave Heat hell in 1st round. Imagine if they had Wallace? Scary Thought.

The Bulls still need a low post scorer? Think they'd want Curry? ;)

I'm actually not disagreeing with you on the fact that most free agent signings aren't superstars. I just think that that fact would be so obvious as to not really mean much. Teams get under the cap for the reason of signing a superstar. The teams that succeed in signing a star usually find a quick path to success thereafter.

I'm glad you agree in wanting the Knicks to get under the cap. You're right. It will never happen, unless the cap is raised by 50% a year, in which case we should barely slip under by 2020.

Pistons would still be pretty decent. They still have Rasheed and McDyess up front. I would put them behind the Heat, Bulls, Nets, and possibly Cavs, but they'd still probably be a second round team next year.

a plan
a philosophy
picks and cap space

Now the Bulls have a GREAT rebounding and defending front court backed by a pair of tough playmaking and defending guards in Duhon/Kirk along with great scoring punch with Deng and Gordon
Nocioni is a pretty good role player not to mention. Also they just added a couple of *somewhat* promising draft picks.

Imagine all that... and without signing Jerome James! How is it possible?

Would anyone do the following trade?

Eddy Curry, Jalen Rose and Renaldo Balkman

for

Ben Wallace, Tyrus Thomas, Mike Sweetney, the Knicks #1 pick in 2007 (seriously, what are the odds that the Bulls won't swap picks?) and the Knicks 2nd rd picks in 2007 and 2009.

The Bulls don't have the cap space to attempt to sign Ben Wallace if they don't get the Knicks to take Curry off their hands.
