i thought coach of the year could be given to a team turnaround of x games...am I making this up? Has it never been given to a coach with less than 50 wins?

NBA COACH OF THE YEAR: Orlando Magic head coach Glenn "Doc" Rivers, 38, recently was named NBA Coach of the Year and received the prestigious Red Auerbach Trophy. Rivers, who is only the fifth coach to be so honored after his first season, received 60 votes from the 121-member panel of sportswriters and broadcasters. Lakers' Phil Jackson was a close second with 53 votes. Rivers, who played 13 seasons for the Hawks, Clippers, Knicks and Spurs before he retired in 1996, inherited the Magic from Hall of Famer Chuck Daly, who retired last May. Rivers guided Orlando to a 41-41 record and the team came within one game of making the playoffs. He is the first coach in league history to win the award without leading his team to the playoffs.

if we win 40+ games and make the playoffs, then isiah and the players succeeded despite all the pressure on them (and there's alot).

actually Larry said he could win with this roster, but what he wanted was Marbury, Francis, Rose, JJ and Mo Taylor off of it.

just for the record

how do you think Larry Brown would have felt about Marcus Williams?

Word is from the same post article that the quote up top is from that Balkman was Brown's favorite player from Orlando.

Even if Pheniox weren't going to take Balkman. There is no proof that Isiah was lieing. Sure there is a great chance that he is lieing. But there is no proof. Maybe he did recieve information that Suns were going to pick Balkman, but it was false information.

Anyway this team was WAY better than what it showed last yr. I think Francis & Rose set us back though. Rose could be good for us when he looks to pass more.

With every player put in position of weakness last season we won 23games. With everyone in position of strength we went on a 6game win streak. And we will win 40 games next season. But the only thing I care about is if Isiah is going to keep adding and devloping young talent. But also unloading some of these contracts without adding more salary. Or will he keep on adding more bad players with bad contracts. If its the latter than id rather Isiah fail and we bring in someone who will do the former.

Must be the same guys who said Seattle as gonna take Nate. All I know is this is the second time Zeke has used this type of excuse when justifying a pick. He isn't the GM of Seattle, he isn't the GM of PHX, he is the GM of the Knicks(although some posters would say he is the GM of Chi, PHX, and Orlando)...

That is what worries me more than anything else...it's like everytime we get a player it is because someone else was interested in them....Marbury, from Layden's notes, Nate because Seattle was gonna take him, Balkman because Larry liked him in Orlando and PHX was gonna take him, Collins(even though I like the pick alot) because Larry Brown liked him....this is starting to look like alot more than just a coincidence to me.

are you trying to say Nate Robinson was a bad pick? because he was a great pick. I remember a lot of guys here wanted Petro. how's that working out? maybe people should stop trying to act like reading scouting reports and watching highlight reels has anything to do with real scouting and none of us really knows these players, other than getting impressions of what kind of player they'll be.

and I think Isiah noting that other teams were interested in these guys is just him trying to deflect some of the undo criticism of these picks.

No...I am saying that Isiah has justified picks by saying other teams were going to take these guys multiple times. Twice in two years. He is the GM of the Knicks. Nate is a decent pick but we had two guys that played the point on the team the same way Nate does already (Steph and Craw)-Jack and Head were available and better fits, IMO for the sake of variety). We could have used a center (Petro and Taft were available-take out hindsight). We could have used a 2-guard (Garcia was available).

I am not saying he was a bad pick, I agree with Zeke if he was 2 or 3 inches taller he would have been a lotto pick. And I would also be more comfortable if Isiah said he liked this guy and he is our pick as opposed to well they liked him so he must be good enough for us.

It was a bad value pick, but given Isiah's track reoord in the draft, it may well work out.
