It's kind of funny. During the season, Knicks fans bitch about the talented players who have personality and/or conditioning problems and pine away for the energy/defense guys. But on draft night, Knicks fans bitch about the energy/defense player and pine away for the talented player who has personality and conditioning problems.

Not that I love the pick, mind you. I just think it's kind of funny.

Right on the money TV.

Everybody go back and read your posts about our poor character guards and poor defense, then go check out M WIlliams profile: Poor defense, a thief, and a poor shooter.

My comparison in ability? Rick Brunson.

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

Balkman was all over the place vs. Louisville and Michigan in the NIT. Huge efforts by him.

I think he will be better than Ariza and that is a start for a role player. If he sees 15-20 minutes a game and plays defense and rebounds, what's not to like?
We could be the Dallas Mavs of the East.

At least I finally have people agreeing with me about this irony. I had him on my shortlist at 29. We took him at 20...I still like the player and I think he and Collins are players we needed here. Now lets give the boot to Jalen/QRich and use these two.

Do you think Marcus Williams was better than Deron Williams of Illinois, now on the Jazz, because I don't. I think Deron Williams is much tougher. They are both slow but D Williams I think is better.

You are completely correct. D Williams is much more of a big time player. Also, he is a better athlete than he appears.

I want to hold onto Jalen til the trading deadline. You never know if a Vince Carter becomes available

I had Marcus rated highly...very highly. But he was passed up 19 times before us and several of those teams needed PG's. Plus he came into tonight with >14% body fat. He's had character concerns and isnt a sure thing. He was a low risk pick for the Nets and its a pretty ideal situation for him. He has great floor vision and makes things happen at the ends of games. He could very well be a great player, but there were enough warts on him to scare away a lot of GMs.

Agree with that...boot him to the inactive list.

I put it this way...we could have gotten him in the second round. we could have gotten him at a later pick and got inumerabley better players at the position.

I have no problem taking the guy, and I have no roblem reaching for a guy you think you need, but in a draft where teams are selling freakin' picks we reach for a guy 20 or 30 picks early when he may have not even been drafted....that is just bad business in my opinion.

I'm not as mad at Isiah for selecting Balkman from a need standpoint (High Energy, Defensive Minded, Horse on the Glass).. But I do question the selection being @ #20

Again Mardy Collins is a decent pick up, he has size and can allow Nate Robinson to be more offensive minded as opposed to forcing him to be a set up man. It also allows us to avoid potential mismatches at the 1 & 2 positions respectively. That being said, I would have taken Marcus Williams first if i'm going after a point guard. It's clear that Isiah is looking for role players and system guys NOW moreso than players that need 2 dominate the ball to be successful.

On draft night, the only reason for my disappointment is because I don't know who Renaldo is. However, I do believe that Isiah is probably a better judge of talent than Chad Ford (why isn't Chad running an f-in team if he is so brilliant?) or any newspaper writers. Zeke's draft history speaks for itself, so I suggest a wait and see approach before judging the pick. Fact of the matter is, if Isiah knew who he wanted for his team, why wait?

He blew the doors off that pre-draft events. And it is ironic that this is the kind of player everybody always wines about us not having. Well, now we do.

"In NIT finals win over Michigan, scored 10 PT w/ 12 REB, 5 BLK, 4 STL in 35 MIN"

That's a stat that is interesting. Don't get me wrong, it's not the NCAA finals, but the defensive ability is apparent.

My main complaint is these guys are NOT Isiah type of players! These guys are Larry Brown type of players! I guess Isiah feels he can just lift notes of the guys that were there befoe him or something...I don't get it..LB would have given this draft an A+, IMO. I don't understand this draft.
