larry also has a rather significant Olympic loss which features ugly coaching (i.e. a tendency to bench LeBron James)

The idea that this guy can only coach a certain type of player is just beyond comprehension

it's beyond comprehension b/c it's not true...

So what happened during the Olympics, he only had what is know now as the greatest assembly of players playing the game today...Guys with heart and who can play the game..But he complained to no end and the reporters believed him...Guys like yourself believed him...What's the excuse for that one...Everyone called them prima donnas...Larry is always right....Argentina won the freaking thing...Whats your excuse now...

"Poor" Larry Brown...He has no input..What ashame...

It's a shame for Knicks fans that the only person in the organization who's had any success in their current job is the only one that doesn't have input.

You call 23 wins success??

No, it's not...but 1010 wins is a success....

23 Seasons NBA 1010-800 -Not counting 229 ABA wins and 102 ABA losses.

The 987 victories elsewhere means nothing to me because I am a Knick fan...All I care about is what happens here...It's like the Yankees paying Randy Johnson boatloads for what he has accomplished in his career and now he stinks in the uniform...He might have been a great coach before he got here but now he simply stinks...If he doesn't stink and he was tanking the season for his own personal reasons, then thats even worse, In my book thats treason....The idea that this guy can only coach a certain type of player is just beyond comprehension....I just can't wait for the curtain for fall on this drama!

I understand what you are saying but by the logic you are using (and once again I can understand it and I do hope guys like Steph can have the success he never had here), you are saying getting an unproven college coach like a Billy Donovan or any other college coach with no experience on the NBA level would have the same chance for success than hiring a guy like a Riley, LB, or Jackson....In the very end, the only way you can judge someone is on by past experience in a given situation.

Look, If we only judged by what happened here, Nate, Lee, and Frye would be gone because they only have 23 wins to 59 losses on the Knicks, and that is the only way they can be judged. We both know this is wrong, but this is who it looks if you only judge by what they did with the Knicks.

Holfresh - IT has not succeeded at anything since he was playing. Dolan has not succeeded at anything ever, except being born to the right family. The organization is a mess. No coach has come close to succeeding with these two running the show. Maybe it ain't just the coach?

Dolan is a card carrying member of the lucky sperm club.

Haha. Damn why couldn't he have been a blow job.

Nah im just playing. But he needs to do the right thing and sell the team. To individual owner(s) who care about winning championships. Or he needs to put better people around him and stay behind the scenes.

maybe if RJ, Iverson, Marbury or anyone else could hit an open jump shot the result would have been different. LB should have held a clinic on shooting instead of practice

LEbron, Carmelo were all very young and stupid then.

With that team on paper we should have destroyed everyone.

We only had one point guard on that team. Yeah, we know.

Remember Steph talking about his preparation and his shooting slump? NO, he lifts in the off season and does not shoot. He was ill prepared for the competition.

Larry asked the team to play defense, they were not happy about summer school.

Remember the whiners who did not go cuz they were scared? So Isiah begged Steph on the team.

We lost? Why, cuz diva attidude.

Hey, if some of you like divaball, be my guest. Im gone if it continues. Im wathing tonite. no divas. Steph year after year long on vacation by mid june!

BUt lets bring in more coaches! Im sure its all the coaches fault. 5 coache in 6 years. Yeah, its larrys fault.

Check out Marbs' scoring and FG% in the medal round games and then revise your statement (or admit you don't know what you're talking about)

The Olympic debacle does not fall entirely on the shoulders of the players or LB. Even though 75% of the U.S. team would take the MVP in any of those foreign leagues, there is nothing that replaces a team knowing each other, and Argentina as well as a couple of the other powerhouse squads are fielding several NBA players.

It was a wake up call. I still think that whichever team wins the NBA championship in an Olympic year should play in the Olympics, and any foreign players on that team would be replaced with players that try out for a spot. That is a recipe for success.

oohah

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

he just can't follow orders...

http://www.nypost.com/sports/knicks/brown_has_no_say_for_knick_draft_knicks_marc_berman.htm

Last summer, Thomas compared Brown to Einstein. But now Thomas treats the mad basketball genius like a pariah. In defiance of the Knicks' gag order, Brown said from his gray Audi, "I'm having fun working the guys out. This is what I love to do. I'm sure when the draft comes I have a lot of knowledge about the guys we worked out. If they need me, I'll offer my assistance."

I'm sure you would have made a great Nazi.

"I was just following orders"

huh? what a ridiculous analogy.

Larry has only himself to blame for the US Olympic team losing. He has only himself to blame for Detroit losing to the Spurs. That team needed him and he was off looking for his next gig in Cleveland. Detroit couldn't stand him so much they would rather have Flip than a HOF coach. He gets here and acts like a total ass:

1. Starts making fun of the teams roster in preseason
2. Starts Lee on the inactive list for no apparent reason, later he regrets that mistake.
3. He starts AD and even AD is shocked that he's being asked to start.
4. He refuses to give PT to our young players even tho they seem to be the ones that play the best
5. He puts some of the WORST Starting lineups together and we have a situation where our bench is outscoring the starters every night.
6. He keeps changing the SL and can't settle down the rotation to 8 or 9 guys.
7. He starts guys in there hometown, college town or cuz they have a 2nd cousin somewhere in the state.
8. He chirps to the media about his players and never takes real blame for the way the team is playing.
9. He alienates his best player and annoys half the team so much that they won't play for him.
10. He defies orders and keep destroying his players in the press.
11. He askes for trades and then doesn't play the players he asked for.
12. All year he made poor decisions in game. He took players out that were hot and often set plays that made no sense to finish off games. He even admitted that he didn't know how to use this roster, which is ridiculous. Other coaches have far less to work with and seem to find a way to make something work.

This guy was a total MESS. I don't care WHAT he did in the past. THIS YEAR he SUCKED. The worst part is that he seemed to be doing it on purpose. Cuz NO ONE really believes that he could coach that badly and not be doing it on purpose. So many of the things he did last year he's NEVER done before. He also know full well that NO TEAM can succeed without a stable Starting Lineup and rotation. His refusal to settle on one would be considered incompetence, if not for the fact that we KNOW he knows better.

can we all just agree to not mention this Brown crap again until the Knicks make a move? I'm so sick of these circular arguments - yes, he's had success everywhere else, but he's always left a wake of turmoil behind, sometimes in two or three short years. this time it was one year. it's over. please, enough.

you can say the organization sucks for hiring him and then for firing him (if that is the case), but please don't act like Larry is innocent and didn't (at least somewhat) bring this down on himself. he thought he could come in here and act like an @ss and dolan didn't like it. let's just see what happens next instead of dissecting his career on a daily basis.

Dolan and Isiah should be shot. I don't give a crap if Larry can't follow Dolan's orders because his orders are the business equivalent of a Kevorkian prescription. He ordered Larry not to call out Marbury in the press...why? Its worked frequently with other players in the past and, as a coach, he SHOULD have the authority to hold players accountable publicly, privately and in any other legal forum he finds most appropriate for the purpose of motivation and teaching responsibility. Bottom line - Dolan was a shmuck to get involved and undermine Larry.

Now if you're firing Larry because he won 23 games AND you think the team will not improve dramatically in the next 2 years with him - then you might have a case.
Sh-t in the popcorn to go with sh-t on the court. Its a theme show like Medieval times.

NO, NO, NO! We must not stop arguing about Brown, Isiah, and Marbury. We have all made great strides - just a helluva lot of progress on this site in recent months - by having these arguments. I think we're finally starting to get somewhere. I really do.
