Well, I hope Spain does a good tournament, but I'm not very confident about my team. I'm tired of Raul... Let's hope Reyes gets a lot of playing time.
Good luck to England firefly ;) and to the USA team. I just want to see some good matches and lots of goals.
I still like soccer a lot, but I have been a a lot more into the NBA for a few years. Anyway F.C. Barcelona rules the world! Ha!

Darkknicks, Reyes plays for Arsenal in England, so I've seen a LOT of him, and let me tell you Reyes absolutely SUCKS! There is not a player in the world I have a lower regard for. His greatest achievement is his title of Europes most fouled player. Cr@p! You know why he has that title? because he goes down easier then anyone else in Europe. Bleeeech! No special pace, speed or anything. Reyes sucks.

Sorry for the rant, but I hate pansies like Reyes who don't play like men. Its a contact sport for gods sake!
Hahaha, ok, we have different opinions. Of course I know he plays for Arsenal now, but he was at Sevilla FC until Arsenal got him, so I know him very well too. It is true that he gets down easy, but in Spain and Italy that's the normal thing, it is just not him. He is certainly one of the most skilled players (if not the most) in Spain. Someone I really haven't seen enough (whoi plays in the Premier also) is Cesc.
BTW, who's you favourite English team? Arsenal, Chelsea, Machester, Liverpool?

just as for years the best quarterback in new york played for the knicks . . .

don't you think the best soccer player could be . . .nate robinson??? i mean think about it - those legs, that power, that speed! that aggressiveness! that fearlessness!

nate should be whupping the whole world right now!!!

Me and guns were talking about this last night watching some old school footage from his fathers collection and trust me, Nate would be just another guy. I wonder if he could keep pace for 45 minutes. I really dont think he is fast enough and would get beat very often.

well i'll take you guys' words for it, but tell me why. the guy seems ridiculously fast on the basketball court, and i assume as a 5'9" defensive back he was all about speed on the footbell field. it wouldn't translate on a soccer field? he couldn't keep pace? he's not incredibly strong, as exhibited by those 14 straight misses in the slam dunk contest?

I dont think he'd have the endurance but once he builds it I think he would make a very good soccer player. He'd be the King of headers with his 40in vertical

Interesting and exciting matches today, with some surprise performances as well. Germany started off looking like they would dominate but then their defense started looking very pourous. Ecuador's 2-0 win over Poland was probably the biggest surprise as many "experts" had Poland slated for 2nd in the group and Ecuador as "over-rated" (based on their 3rd place finish in the South American qualifiers behind Brasil & Argentina) because they could never win away from their home in the mountains (a la Denver professional teams at times).

We'll see what lies ahead, but thusfar I am very excited about this year's tournament

Yep, just watched it, although I missed the early (own) goal. They didn't play too well but got the win and in the end that's what matters.

England did not do well. I'm very disappointed especially because they only won because of the horrible mistake by Paraguay's captain. Wonder what firefly has to say.

Anyone watch the Sweden-Trinidad match? Sweden had plenty of opportunities, but Trinidad was able to pull out the improbable tie. Fun match.

Fascist fans wave flags ahead of a game of Rome's Lazio club in January.

Seems that when white germans all get together in the name of the fatherland their insecurity breeds some bad blood.

Its a sporting event for heavens sake!

I couldnt believe it VDesai. It was weird cause I was waiting the whole time for Sweden to score and it never came!! Were you watching the games on ABC? The coverage was absolutely terrible. The England game was especially horrible. The guys didnt know what offsides was. They had to spend time figuring it out! And I would like to ask them who Michael Beckham is.

Ivory Coast is going to raise some eyebrows. I bet a lot of people expect them to be beaten 3-0 and thats possible but I expect them to come up strong. Argentina better not underrate them.

EDIT: There goes the idea of Ivory coast being good! Argentina is schooling them!!

Yeah I've been watching on ABC/ESPN. DOn't count IVory Coast out yet! 2-1 now. They've been getting opportunities and are playing agressively! Very fun team to watch and they could still square this game! A bit more than 5 minutes left!

Argentina wins, but Ivory Coast was very game. Argentina is enormously talented. They didn't even have some of the best players in the world out there (Messi).

Ivory Coast was pretty aggresive and held their own against the powerhouse. I wish they had 1 or 2 good midfielders to help drogba out. Argentina looked pretty damn good. I cannot wait to see Brazil.

It would have helped if the Ivory Coast can get a few calls as well..
