In honor of 2006, who do you consider the top 6 centers of all time?

Mine...

Olajuwon
Duncan
Shaq
Chamberlin
Russell
Ewing

Robinson was a little soft for my liking, always seemed like a better complimentry player than centerpiece to me, even with his MVP and all-star appearences, I don't know why.

Shaq and Chamberlin would be lower if this was based on sheer talent because alot of their dominance is based on sheer size, IMO.

Russell could've been alot higher if he didn't play on a team with so many scorers. Other than Ewing and Mourning, Russell is one of my favorite centers.

Jabbar is probably seven because so much of his success was based on he sky hook. I don't know how versatile he was offensively, because I didn't see him play, but one move on the offensive end (if that is what he had-you guys who saw him play, spread the wealth of knowledge) is limiting.

Just my opinion, fire away.

Jabbar def. ahead of Ewing. NO QUESTION ABOUT IT. Learn some history before posting nonsense.

Before you take a friendly opinion thread and turn it to crap learn some manners...and perhaps the meaning of opinion.

If you're going to start a thread about history learn some before you start popping off. I am a big Ewing fan but he couldn't hold Lew Alcinders jock(btw thats Jabbars name before he changed it if you didn't know)
fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate

Cool.....considering I'm 25 Alcindor is a little before my time. Trust me, I know the history of the game I've been watching and playing ball more than half my life.(and since you were so nice to "help me out, let me help you too...

Opinion
Noun

1. A personal belief or judgment that is not founded on proof or certainty; "my opinion differs from yours"; "what are your thoughts on Haiti?".

2. A belief or sentiment shared by most people; the voice of the people; "he asked for a poll of public opinion".

3. A message expressing a belief about something; "his opinions appeared frequently on the editorial page".

4. The legal document stating the reasons for a judicial decision; "opinions are usually written by a single judge".

5. The reason for a court's judgment (as opposed to the decision itself).

6. A vague idea in which some confidence is placed; "his impression of her was favorable"; "what are your feelings about the crisis?"; "it strengthened my belief in his sincerity"; "I had a feeling that she was lying".

It's an opinion thread. We get the idea you like Jabbar more than Ewing. Move on. I noticed you haven't even posted your top 6. Try doing that.

Just for your info, Kenny Smith was on ESPN radio. They asked him who he thought were the top 5 centers of all time.He stated Kareem #1 followed by Shaq, Wilt, Russell and Hakeem.I'm sure he would have a chuckle at Joes leaving Kareem off the list completely and putting Ewing ahead of him.If your going to put out an opinion expect some criticism, don't be a baby. Debate the facts.

It's funny how this whole world is based on one dummy controlling another, and the leader dummy was chosen by a whole bunch of dummies.

For those of you who may never have seen Wilt play-there was naothing he could not do on a basketball court except shoot fould shots. Could average about 4-5 assists per game, 23 rebounds and 30 point a games -for his career (They did not keep stats on blocks) An incredible athlete who, legend says, set a record for the decathalon while a sophomore in college and he was not a track and field athlete but was challenged by the track coach). Was unstoppable. And for those who think it was pure size, he faced a few HOFers like Russell, Reed, Petit, Unseld, Lucas and Thurmond. Russell was great but was a piece of the puzzle-great defense, boards, good passer.

BTW-played 45+ minutes a game

Thing is, when he faced a lot of those HOFers he didn't always come out ahead. Not in the wins department.

Maybe that would be meaningful if they were playing one-on-one. But really it was more like nine-on-nine, plus coaching.

sigh. Some things never change.

Daww, you look all snotty. What's the matter, did I give your Marbury bobble-head doll a crook in it's neck or something?

Here's a 'for instance' for you. Wilt couldn't exploit an injured Willis Reed for the '70 Championship. When Willis wasn't holding him in check on one leg 6'7 guys like Debusschere and Stallworth were.

BTW, I have Chamberlain second all-time on my list. Where's your list, or do you prefer to just snipe at others from your hole in the ground?

haha. Just 'cause I don't obsess over 5 year old news clippings about Marbury rolling his eyes at a practice, it doesn't mean I love the guy. Maybe if I get Marc Berman to write an article about it you'll see the light.

Bottom line, equating individual success with team success is naive and just plain wrong. It is quite plainly a conceptual error. People should be smarter than that.

I don't have any qualms with your list though. In fact it's probably the best one posted thus far and I'd be hard pressed to argue with your choices. The only things I'd change would probably be to have Wilt first and Shaq third ahead of Russell and Hakeem.

Your error was in taking me out of context so you could amuse us with your Captain Obvious heroics.

I happened to have seen Wilt against the likes of Reed, Jabbar, Unseld, etc. He didn't dominate them anymore than Shaq did Hakeem. Wilt certainly held his own - sometimes he got the better of his opponent, often times NOT -- he just wasn't as dominant against them as some of his gaudy stats and legendary status might suggest.

Opinions are like azzholes- everyone has one. If it looks like a duck and smells like a duck I guess you are a duck.

Bro.......what exactly is your issue? Like you said everyone has an opinion so get over it and stop being a drama queen...

If it looks like a duck and smells like a du........that is just ridiculous, man...get some new non-redneck stuff before you decide to start throwing darts.
