Wait a minute, why are you guys bashing Isaiah? This is a DOLAN decision. He fired Marv for making negative comments over the air, so how do you think he felt about all the crap that LB said? LB has no one to blame but himself. They TOLD him to stop making negative comments to the press and he didn't stop, he escalated the bickering. I think some of us really forgot just how early he started in with the snide remarks and he kept it up til near the end of the season.

His performance as headcoach was even worse than his comments. How can anyone defend all the things he did wrong this year. Even a hack could've coached this team to the 8th seed. I mean come on. He's supposed to be SUPERCOACH. He made the team 10 games worse instead of 10 games better. HOW DO YOU DEFEND THAT? DO you suppose that this years club is 10 games worse in terms of talent when compared to what we had last year? I DON'T THINK SO!!! No vet on the team had even an avg. career year under LB. Surely someone would've had a better than avg' year. He held the kids back for no reason, especially given that they were closer to his kind of players than many of the vets!!! LB has to go and I wouldn't bet against Isaiah doing better by a MILE than LB. Not because he's a better coach, but just by not being a hindrance to the players who actually can play the game. Even if not up to LB's lofty standards.

everbody knows it's dolan's fault. but do you think dolan makes this decision without any input from isiah? you think dolan is smart enough to fire a head coach without any help from either isiah or mills?

dolan didn't fire layden until stern intervened.

Stop posting here if something like this is that upsetting.

Let em tell ya'll something. Larry Brown is not the god of basketball and no he is not a Knick. He has done nothing but bitch and complain about the Knicks roster from day one and he refused to do what my signature says......

Yes Brown should be fired!!!! He single handedly killed this franchise. That is Isiahs fault for hiring this ****sucker.

Now at the same time don't think that if Brown is gone that the players win and they all should stay....hell no! Changes should be made regardless. The first change is the coach which is a great decision. Get him out cuz he is the main cancer on the team. Next get all the other bitches off the roster and try to get the right pieces to win.

Yeah I like this.....fire Brown...make Isiah coach and GM and lets see what happens if all fails.......Fire Isiah. First there has to be some stability and making Isiah run the show fully will be the end all and all you muthafukers can shut up about this drama already!!!

Lets play ball and stop talking about this gay sh it all the time.....all or nothing.

Go Knicks.

I am with you on every lien like I wrote it!!!

Some people are slaves to the media. The live and die by the man like many of the people did when they elected then re-elected Bush.

Track record is BS....what have you done lately.....Brown exposed the players? That is the stupidest thing ever. The players still had no chemistry up until the last week of the season. Thats Marburys fault though......

People will never wake up. They think that winnign 20 games is better than barely making the playoffs.

I hope this is true and not a stupid rumor. Put it all on Isiah and let him save his own ass once and for all.

50+ transactions, 4 coaches, 10+ assistant coaches...yeah, isiah has definitely created an atmosphere of stability.
Now at the same time don't think that if Brown is gone that the players win and they all should stay....hell no! Changes should be made regardless.

you may want to look up the word stability again in the dictionary.

right. you mean stability.....starting....now.

team still needs the following:

1. defenders
2. reliable jumpshooters
3. smart decisions makers with the ball

if isiah coaches, will he actually trade some of "his guys" to get those players or will he be going to war with what we have?

this is scary.

there's no guarantee...but man, lb is the only one in the organization that's done it before and he's done it many times.

Which is why the whole thing is just wrong!
I'll never trust this' team again.

Report: Knicks may buy out the rest of Larry Brown's contract
BY FRANK ISOLA
New York Daily News

NEW YORK - Madison Square Garden chairman James Dolan apparently has started the process of ending Larry Brown's dream job after one season.

According to sources, Dolan, upset over Brown's record and the coach's public criticism of his players, is considering buying out the final four years of Brown's contract, worth at least $40 million.

The Knicks declined to comment, and would neither confirm nor deny one published report that already is naming Knicks president Isiah Thomas as Brown's successor. Brown has indicated that he will not resign, but if Thomas takes over, the Knicks would avoid having to pay another coach upwards of $5 million annually.

Thomas, who coached the Pacers from 2000-2003 but never got them out of the first round of the playoffs, is said to be amenable to coaching the Knicks, one source told the New York Daily News.

Knicks brass has not met with Brown since the end of the 23-59 season, according to sources, perhaps another indication of Dolan's dissatisfaction with the Hall of Fame coach. According to a team official, Brown has requested a meeting with Dolan, but Thomas has told Brown there is no reason for him to meet with the club's owner.

Last month, The News reported that a majority of the players blamed the Knicks' worst season in 20 years on Brown, whose hiring last July was looked upon as a way to return the struggling franchise to prominence.

Brown, one of the most successful coaches in basketball history, ended the season with 1,010 NBA victories (he is fourth on the all-time list) but was never happy with the roster that the embattled Thomas had assembled. The Knicks played and acted like the league's most undisciplined team, which reflected poorly on the players and Brown. The coach talked often about a wish list of players more suited to his team-first, defense-oriented style, but sources say Brown has been told the team cannot be changed significantly.

After joining the Knicks following a messy divorce from the Pistons, Brown quickly reignited his feud with point guard Stephon Marbury, which began during the 2004 Olympics in Athens. Within a few months, Brown had publicly criticized several players, which was an indictment of Thomas, who put together the league's most expensive roster at $125 million.

According to sources, Thomas also was upset that Brown chose to publicly air his complaints about the Knicks' flawed roster. A turning point came in late February, when Dolan and Thomas joined the Knicks for a three-day road trip to San Antonio and Memphis. The News reported that during that trip, Dolan told Brown to focus on coaching the players. The following day, Dolan gave Thomas a strong endorsement, while giving Brown a lukewarm review.

It was during that trip that Brown entered a Memphis hospital after complaining of chest pains. Six weeks later, Brown took ill and left a game in Cleveland in the third quarter, and was later taken on a stretcher to a hospital, complaining of an acid reflux problem. He missed the next three games, but returned for the finale against the Nets at Meadowlands Arena, where he let assistant Herb Williams run the team. During his farewell address to the media after the season, Brown shocked Garden brass by saying he had been suffering from the flu and that Thomas and team doctors had advised him not to coach that game.

According to two player agents with clients on the Knicks, the players staged a palace coup in front of Thomas during their exit interviews. Players never blame themselves, and they weren't about to cast aspersions on Thomas, the man responsible for bringing them to New York.

Instead, approximately eight of the Knicks' 15 players blamed Brown for arguably the worst season in franchise history. The most common complaints were Brown's failure to define roles and his penchant for publicly criticizing his players.

"The Knicks are going to have to make changes because there is no way Larry can walk into the locker room with this same group," one source said then. "He lost a lot of those guys and he's not going to win them back."

Brown could not have been surprised by the feedback Thomas was getting. Two weeks earlier, Brown admitted that several Knicks had long since tuned him out, and said that the season had been reduced to "begging guys to play."

After the exit interviews, Thomas said: "We do have a group that, for everything that I've heard today, like each other, want to stay together and want to play together, and believe that they can get it done."

Larry Brown's dream job with the New York Knicks could end after only one season.

Madison Square Garden chairman James Dolan, who's upset over Brown's record and the coach's public criticism of his players, is considering buying out the final four years of the coach's contract, the New York Daily News reported in Sunday's editions.

The buyout is worth at least $40 million, the newspaper reported.

The Knicks declined to comment.

One published report indicated Knicks president Isiah Thomas was in line to replace Brown as head coach, the newspaper said, but the team would not confirm nor deny it.

Brown, who led the Knicks to a 23-59 season, has indicated that he will not resign. But the club could avoid having to pay another coach upward of $5 million a year if Thomas takes the job, the Daily News reported. One source told the newspaper that Thomas -- who coached the Pacers from 2000-2003 -- would be amenable to coaching the Knicks.

In April, one day after the Knicks completed one of the worst seasons in franchise history, Thomas said the Hall of Fame coach would return to coach the team for a second season. The underachieving roster was another story.

"I am loyal to winning and I am not loyal to any singular individual," Thomas said then. "I'm going to do what I need to do to make our team better. ...

"When you won 23 games, I think we'll make some changes," he said. "Coach and I haven't sat down and fully decided what changes we'll make, but we'll probably make some changes."

My God! $40 million dollars? What a waste!!! Let 'ME' coach the damn team!!! I think I can squeeze at least a few more wins out of them!

These guys are supposed to be professioanls. Every team has players who have a problem witht he coach, but go out on the floor to play they're game. If they can't be professional about it, then what good are they? I don't believe this bull crap of a story. It's a damn soap opera and the confidentiality of the team is supposed to be just that. LB probably could have done better, but to hear that he lost players and he'll never win them back?! What are these guys? A bunch of freak'n babies?!!!
I'll never trust this' team again.

Truthfully I want Larry Brown to stay. Though the thought of Isiah coaching this team is interesting because it will be the final chapter. I just want the Knicks to be good again. Why does it have to be so hard.

Hey we DO have some good players on this team. Don't let Larry pull the wool over you eyes. Just because he didn't want to coach this team of mostly young players, doesn't mean they won't be a good team down the line. We already knew this team was in a rebuilding phase and wasn't going to be a contender, so why bash Isaiah for the moves he made over last summer. He did a good job of adding talent at positions we were weak at. Its not up to him to coach the team and make decisions on the Starting lineup and rotations. Its not up to Isaiah to build relationships with the players for Larry. Larry chose not to do his freakin job. All he had to do was caoch the team to near .500 and make the playoffs, THAT'S ALL! No one was expecting more than that. So why is it now that so many of you want to make it seem like this team is a disaster when at the start of the year all we expected was a respectable sign of improvement in the 1st year and hopefully more improvement in year 2. LB took the team to new levels of futility. NO OTHER COACH would keep his job after a season like this. So get off Isaiah's back and realize that this was year ONE of this team's new direction and LB F'd it up, when it was a layup. Just be decent and no one would've been upset. Just show some signs of potential for the future and we'd be happy, but NOOOOOO. He couldn't do that. He had to bitch from day one, like it was a surprise that this team wasn't very good.
Knicks may buy out Larry Brown
