Bryant Reeves.

or Osama Bin Laettner.
DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

No, he will win them to win, but he isn't as dominant as he was before. At this point I would pick Elton Brand over him, TD is past his prime. Hes still great though. His team is so good now, that he doesn't have to put up the numbers to make them win, he just has to perform in spurts and rebound throughout.

I don't know about that. I don't think that Brand can command a triple team with offensive dominance the way Duncan can.

If they switched places, don't you think that the Clippers would be better than the Spurs?

NO I think the spurs would be better with EB, than the clippers with TD at this point. EB is just too much right now.

I say its Dirk, EB, TD with and * by dirk because he is a 7 foot swingman really.

I was going to say the exact same thing. EB is playing at a much higher level than TD.

My view is probably going to be different, but I think Duncan has fallen a lot this year. This year Manu and Tony P. really carried the load, along with a good bench. Here's my list:

Dirk Nowitzki
Elton Brand
Kevin Garnett
Marcus Camby
Tim Duncan
Ben Wallace
Shaquille O'Neal
Jermaine O'Neal
Pau Gasol

If you go based on the past year, Camby had a considerably better year than Duncan. Camby was almost flawless this year, minus his 20 games missed due to injury. Additionally, Camby carried my fantasy team to the championship in the one league I actually paid attention to. :P

Bonn: Dirk dont play defense and cannot post!

His defense certainly looks good against Gasol, whose FG% has dropped 86 points! (.086)

I dont think Dirk is guarding him most of the time. I havent watched a whole lot of the series but Diop and Damp are defending Pau and Dirk is guarding Jake. Memphis was trying to bang Jake in the post on Dirk because Dirk's defense is bad but Jake sucks offensively. Dirks defense and rebounding have gotten a lot better this season but he is still not on par with Elton Brand, KG, Jermaine etc. Also, he lacks a post game. I'd take Brand over Dirk anyday.

Looks like DarkKnicks agrees that Pau is not guarded by Dirk. http://www.ultimateknicks.com/forum/topic.asp?t=15791

Duncan is more concerned with wins then stats.

Parker had a great year. Tim took a backseat in scoring. Whoopty-doo.

Anybody who watched the Finals last year especially the Fame 7 performance in which Tim carried SA in the 3rd&4th qtr against Wallace&Wallace knows we are still looking at the premier big oin the world.

measuring a two-time MVP and 3 times finals MVP still yetto hit 30 by a bucket or two dip in his regular season numbers in which the team still won 60 and his guard had a coming of age season is a little short-sighted IMO.

I agree with McK1 on the Duncan thing. He really doesnt care about stats. His numbers have gone down slightly (-1.7ppg and -1.5rpg) but thats mainly because of his supporting cast. Elton Brand has closed the gap between the two and he is playing a LOT better on offense and defense this year but you guys are being unfair to Duncan. He didnt have a usual Duncan year but he still very good and still compares with Brands best year. I want to see and I think we will see a Clippers, San Antonio west finals. That will be the real test.

In terms of TD's whole career, I rank him up there with the best big men ever.

In term of his present play, even with injuries, I'd still bank on him to pull a team through to victory over anyone else on this list. Dirk's a flat-out great player but as someone else said, he's just not a "big-man" player. He's a different cat altogether.

I think you make a good argument, but I look at it more like his body is deteriorating, than he just willingly took a back seat to let someone else shine.

That's how I feel too. Camby had a better year (ignoring the 20 missed games) to be fair. So did Brand and Dirk. KG was a little down this year also, but he had a better year than Duncan as well. This wasn't a who-would-you-rather-have argument, but rather a "who had the better year" argument.

Duncan and the Spurs somehow squeezed past the 8th seed. Now we'll get a chance to see a Nowitzki-Duncan matchup. I'm expecting Dirk to expose Tim as past his prime and the Mavs to win the series.

I'm seeing the Spurs as a classic veteran playoff team. I don't think they were too concerned about going 6 games in the first round. They looked pretty dominant last night.

It's true ethat Dirk and Terry can be a pretty impressive duo. But I see the Spurs getting stronger as the playoffs go on and I see Duncan as a very very effective old pro now who knows it's the right play at the right time that matters, not just the accumulation of overwhhelming stats all game long.

I say Spurs win. Should be a pretty interesting series.

I dont think the Mavs win this series at all. Its not just Duncan vs. Dirk but the Spurs vs. the Mavs. Also, Dirk plays poor defense. I'll put my money where my mouth is and make a small wager on the Spurs winning this series. I know thats not going out on a limb at all but I want to see if there are any takers.

P.S: Dirk will not guard Duncan. Dampier will guard Duncan.

Kings with Artest finished 23-13.

They were not your average 8 seed.

TD is no longer dominating at his position. He is a great rebounder but this year he has been less dominant. I voted Dirk, although he plays like a 3 really.

I want to see what happens when SA needs him to pull off a win. I think he's stepping up still.

I was planning to bring this thread back after the series no matter who won. It would be easy for me to say "I told you so" here, but I actually think both players were so outstanding that you can't rank one ahead of the other.

What? No Yao? I'd take Yao over Gasol and Wallace.
