Zeke could have went in three different directions. One, he could have waited for major contracts to run out, to try and get under that cap, but New York couldn't wait. He could have built a coach and the brain trust to figure out what was needed for the future and how to go about getting it, but New York couldn't wait. but instead he did what New York wanted him to do and that is do something, do something 'fast'. When Zeke got here, he had a private get together with Jay Z and Spike Lee and that is exactly what they told him. 'Whatever you do, do it fast'! That is the New York way. That is the number one things that destroys 'rebuilding' efforts for any of our New York teams. New York has always pressured players to come in and produce. You see it all of the time and you can't deny it. So in the Knicks case, if we had just waited, let some of the contracts run out, then we could have offered such players as Tim Duncan, Chris Webber, Kobe Bryant at one time a contract that may have lured them to New York. I already know that we have already passed up the chance a few years back to land LeBron in the near future. So we got to take guys like Marbury, Jerome James (what a huge dissapointment) and few of the others, because we have no money to offer big time stars in the league to come play for us. And let's not even get into having a shot at the number one draft pick. I believe Ewing will be the only one we'll ever have as far as that goes. Mind you, this is because New York can't wait and let's be realistic here. New York will 'never' wait. It will always be 'have it now'! New York is painting itself into a finanacial corner, when it comes to sports. We have players who come here, who makes tons and tons of money but don't really put up the clutch it takes to win the whole thing. So Zeke made the decision to pay now and hope for the best and when you look at the names we have on the roster and you look at the wins (23) and you wonder what happened? Don't get me wrong, New York City will once again have it's champions, it's just how exactly and when is the question and at this point, unless we start playing 'not' some fundamental baseketball, but instead some fundamental financial management, we won't be seeing the lights of that scenario for quite some time.
I'll never trust this' team again.
