To me the Kninks did a good move this summer by acquiring McDyess. The elite three McDyess-Spree-Houston will definitely put us back to the playoffs.Y because when the Kincks had LJ he was the inside presence of the team that helped allow them to the playoffs and now we added a similar player in McDyess but a much better player in scoreing and defence.I say wait until season trade dead line to make another move.Knick options will be bigger.By then we see who should go.
What happens if teams guard McDyess with their center and put the PF on Thomas? You know what happens....we are screwed that's what.

Boston-Tony Battie (6'11")
New Jersey-Dikembe Mutumbo (7'2")
Orlando-Anybody breathing (height unknown)
Philadelphia-Todd MacCulloch (7'1")
Atlanta-Theo Ratliff and his surgically repaired body (6'11")
Detroit-Ben Wallace (6'7") or Cliff Robinson (6'11")
Indiana-Brad Miller and Jermaine O'Neal

You get my point?

It's not like the Knicks are the only team without a great center. Oh no, if Tony Battie covers Dyess I'll really be scared. Who cares man, you can't play the game on paper.

I'd take McDyess over the majority of PFs and Cs in the Eastern Conference.

Damn - don't give them any more help.. But seriously, if they put the center on McDice, doesn't he take a couple of steps away from the basket and either give up the ball to a cutting Spree or Houston? (Ooops - just a cutting Spree) Or step away and go around most centers, McDice should be able to do that..

It always amazes me how people seem to feel that criticizing the Knicks means you're not a fan. Most of us have been Knicks fans longer than any of the players have been Knicks, and will be fans long after they've retired or been traded. And last season those players were an embarassment to their fans and to their franchise. We don't owe them anything. Those of us who are worried about entering this season as currently constructed are worried because this team bears a striking resemblance to last year's team, a team that did, on a purely objective level, suck. Layden has addressed the two major weaknesses (PG and C) with an iffy rookie and Michael Freaking Doleac, the man whose game was too dull for Cleveland (Cleveland!). Sure, we've got Dyess, but we gave up our one shotblocker to do so. Moreover, Layden (or more accurately, Dolan) chose not to address the most glaring problem, which is that the entire roster quit less than halfway through the season. Blaming Van Gundy just infantilizes the players, and makes excuses for Don Chaney that he doesn't deserve. He could not wring 48 minutes of effort from his players even once, and he should have been fired. Either that or get him some new team leaders, anything to inject a little heart. Instead, 'the nicest man in basketball' is back at the helm, and his team captain is once again Milquetoast Houston (Spree, for all his virtues, has shown he has no interest in leading).

Being a Knick fan, I obviously am hoping that Williams becomes this year's Tinsley, that Dyess has another career-year like in Phoenix, that Houston finds a heart and that Ward falls down an empty elevator shaft. Being a LONG-TIME Knick fan, I'm afraid we're in for another frustrating season watching a team without an identity that's been designed to win just enough games to sell a few playoff tickets. I root for the franchise, not for the management, not for the owners, and not for millionaires who can't be bothered to give a night's honest effort.

"that Houston finds a heart and that Ward falls down an empty elevator shaft."

OMG That brought a smile to my face! Ha!

I'm one of the theorists who believe they (Chaney with consent of management) tanked the second half so they could get that pick to bargain with. That said, I'll be the first one with a rope if Chaney doesn't prove me right, and they don't play .600 ball before December...

Well I'm glad you're so confident, but Mr. McDyse is not. He has said repeatedly in interviews that he will have a very difficult (I think in one interview he said terrible) season if we don’t get a center because the other teams will guard him with the center and Kurt Thomas with the PF. Let’s see who should I listen too Dyse (the guy who actually has to play) or you! Difficult choice but I’m going to go with Dyse for 1000 Alex.

Ah, this post is 99% perfect. Almost 100%, but you’ve got to realize that until Milos, and Frank prove they can play in the NBA, and Eisley proves he can run an offense that doesn’t involve giving the ball to Karl Malone and getting out of the way, Ward is our best PG. Sad, but true.
