Knee jerk reaction seems good. Jalen Rose can score and is flamboyant. But looking deeper, big deal. We had an expiring contract and J Rose is the best we can do? Isiah goes for the early splash and I am not that impressed. I like the number one pick. But come on. We need more for a big expiring contract.
We could be the Dallas Mavs of the East.

i dont know what more you are expecting teams to give up. if there is something more out there available for a large expiring deal, we still have penny, but i doubt teams are lining up to give away a top 10 pick or good players for it.

Now is the time to let Penny's, J. Rose's, Taylor's, Houston's, and Anderson's contract expire.

dont forget JYD's contract

If all that happened, would the Knicks be under the cap? If not, how far away would they be?

Currently next years payroll is $110mil(thats with letting penny expire). The contracts of Houston, Rose, Taylor, Anderson, and JYD are just a hair over $61mil. So, simple math, assuming they all just expire, we will be at $49mil. Now, that also doesnt include Ariza, Woods, or Butler being signed to extensions. This is why i hope we can use our #1s from denver and SA to unload JJ, Qrich, and Malik for expiring deals. Unloading 2 of the 3 will definately have us under the cap in 07/08. There is light at the end of the tunnel!

So salary cap wise, the Knicks are at a crossroads. They have a realistic chance of getting under the cap for the first time in almost a decade.

When is LeBron a FA?

the hoopsype figure does not include picking up the team option on the rooks nor does ot include what Curry will be making that season since a good portion of the first 3 yeras are incentive based. We know his base salary will be somewhere around 10-11 mill with the 12% increases but he can earn more [or nothing at all] based on the language of the contract.

As long as Marbury is on the books, NY will not be under the cap until after the 2009 season, considering Isiah lets all contracts just run their course...which he likely won't let happen.

Jalen will make $16.9 million next season - Toronto threw in 3 million dollars to counter-balance Davis' $13.9 so the salaries are moot. Besides, it ain't my money.

Jalen was having an extremely productive January. He killed the Knicks with 33 points.

Fast forward.

Jalen Rose, Alan Houston, Shandon Anderson, Mo Taylor, Penny and JYDs buyout along ALL come off the books next year. Thats six, SIX count 'em, fairly susbstantial contracts. I don't care about the Knicks being UNDER the cap as much as them gaining more flexibilty and better assets. Is there any doubt dat ol' Debbil Isiah is accomplishing that?

The not-to-be-trusted used car salesman Isiah also acquired another first round pick by convincing Wayne Embry that it was the thing to do. And we all know that snake Zeke is damn slippery and effective when it comes to evaluationg first round picks. He now has two to play with.

Cool.

Knicksfan - you so crazy.

A wise man once asked, "Is the NY media so dumb as to not see this as a metamorphosis rather than a snapshot?"

"The same could be asked of some fans."

I agree with Bonn. The deal was good, but it's nothing to really go ra ra about. Jalen is a nice player but this team is such a mess, that it's just not gonna help much this year. I guess you can call him a nice little crystal in one big pike of shyat, when you know the whole thing just needs to be removed.

Considering how deep the draft appears to be I think Knicks fans have reason to be excited.

totally agree with you jay. As of last week I was prepared to also include Ariza, Butler and dare I say it, Lee, to get this deal done. That's how much I wanted that pick. Not only did we not have to include Ariza, Butler and Lee but Toronto gave us cash. Nice deal for Isiah...
