Appears that his baggage was left unclaimed at LaGuardia Airport carousel... Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder and jose Feliciano can all see that he is talented ... outstanding outside-of-the-box pick up by Isiah Thomas... Versatile enough to play some guard... does not turn it over ... learning his team mates despite only being with them for less than two months.... Defense still needs work but he is eager to please Larry Brown... only limited by his desire to impress and improve... Knicks fans should give thanks that he likes the city and welcome him with open arms.

No telling how he will respond to unconditional love

re-check one item. I think it was Brown who really made the Woods pickup on recommendation from his brother who was an assistant in POR some years back.

well, not for nothing, but I am sure Brown gives Isiah a list of 20 different guys each day that he wants on the team. Isiah did go out and make it happen.

Isiah signed him with much reservation.

No press conference for the Woods signing. However Jerome James got his name up in lights.

don't forget to complain that Matt Barnes and Jackie Butler didn't get the same, they feel left out.

Barnes was another LB request.

Both guys on court value were/are/will be worth more than Jerome James'.

come to think of it, 1 of the Knick's scouts found Butler as well

Woods has game. He can create his own shot and can hit the outside jumper. He also has ball handling skills. The Blazers let him play point a few times when he was there. He also can rebound when given minutes.

Oh nice, you saw him with POR? He was released/traded for off the court stuff, right? He played point? That's interesting.

What does that have to do with his game?

How about we wate a like 10-15 games to see if he is even on the team before jumping the gun, we have had players in the past go on incredible streches and totally fall of the map.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

I don't THINK this post was sarcastic because everything you said was pretty much true. So as long as you weren't joking, I 100% agree. I love the way this kid is playing. He came in here with a freakin gorilla on his back. No one was expecting him to be an impact player, but at the same time this was a big point in his career. He finally got another chance after getting in trouble with the law, and he's learning from one of the best. He's out there doing his thing man. Everything you said is 100% true. Hopefully this kid sticks and doesn't become a victim of Brown's lineup changes but if he does, I bet we sign him for half the MLE in the offseason.

First off let's hope that he can keep this up. He's got serious talent, we havent had a 6-8 athletic wing with his skills, EVER. He looked like Michael Finley in his prime last night. It certainly would help the process along. If he does follow through, I agree about half the MLE, perhaps we can find another young talent that brings something else to the table and split it. the Knicks need the break.
this is another area that Isiah has done well in, he has attempted to find gold out of garbage. that worked for us with starks and Mason--and really chancged the franchise. Im a big fan of the litter bin--not everyone can make 8mm+ per year--Im a fan of the 2nd round pick.

Simrud - just for discussion purposes, and please cite reasons why... based on what you've seen... who you like better....

Qyntel Woods or David Lee?

Qyntel is signed for the rest of the season

pardon me while I curb my enthusiasm about our 14-27 team with all this great young talent. You would think from some of the homerism around here we have Lebron and Amare sitting in the wings and are just in the phaze of building around them.

For all our great young talent (and its better that not having any) we dont have one guy thats proven he can be a starter, much less a cornerstone.

In 2 years, did you expect Isiah to go from having the 30th best young core to a top 5 young core? I think going from 30th to about 15th was the most we could have reasonably expected.

That's why you have a coach like Larry Brown to mold the raw, young talent into some recognizable shape. You really don't think Channing Frye or Eddy Curry is dependable starter material by next season? You really hate David Lee that much?

Okay, fishmike. Work with me a moment...

Let me get this straight, Mike Sweetney has dropped out of the rotation in Chicago, Kurt Thomas beat his wife but is not a scumbag, KVH is a Dirk understudy in Dallas, Tim Thomas is MIA, 79 year-old Dikembe is pushing his body up and down the floor for short shifts in Houston, who knows or cares where Clarence Weatherspoon is? Chollie Ward is retired, Allan Houston is retired. Milos Vujanic is in the hospital again, Frank Williams is sitting at home watching television, Maciej Lampe is off the radar, Howard Eisley was flat-out released and you're unhappy with their inexperienced replacements because Isiah Thomas is over the salary cap?

Okayfine

Earl, Bonn, I have to say that I admire your energy guys. While I agree with most of what you say (high 90% range), how do you find the time in your day to refute of the bs that gets thrown around here? I mean you guys are like the flipping AJAX crew or something

No doubt about it that if one makes a sane calm and rational approach to analyzing this team there's obviously improvement in our prospects (and that's inspite of our present record). I'd hate to see some of the wives or girlfriends of some of these cats that wanna lynch people up or trade'em to Syberia or something. Progress is upon us if one can seperate the emotional and reactionary aspects of their analysis away from it all.

I'm sorry but I just got too much going on to fight what seems to be an neverending battle here on Ultimateknicks.

Whew, makes me tired just writing this ....anyway, keep up the good work

Who cares. I think Larry brown said it last night--competitive spirit. If you dont have the will and desire to win, you wont. Baskteball and all sports are mental as well as physical--do the young guys we have show competitive spirit--the will to give 110%---I havent seen it very much and that doesnt get better as you get older.

Whar we may have to do is change some of that bring in some players who can bring energy--but with talent behind it as well-someone who can fit in the core. We have a top 5 core? who are these players? Duncan Ginobli and Parker? who is our three man core? We have some pieces, but for 125 mm and the hUNDREDS of millions of $ spent--youd think wed have some correct--but if these guys dont have heart it wont work.

I guess patience is the key and we all know that you can't turn around potential talent in 40 games not less 2 years.

I was thinking of the Detroit lineup again. Wallace, Weed, Prince, Rip, Chancey. For _many_ years of their careers each had been labelled as some degree of bad or not playable at a primetime level. Was it the orignal talent of each guy, was it not the right coaching, was it a bad fit at the time? Who knows. They all seem to be OK these days.

And another thing about talent--talent will find a way to win. I can make many examples--for example right now how about Kansas--all F and S--yet their talent level is starting to blossom into wins despite the very thin expereince.

Its not like we have 9 guys who have been in the league 1 or 2 years--we have MANY players who have been in the nBA for years sans three rookies --a lot of these guys are in their prime.
