Can we move this to the Crawford Hinrich thread because its that insane to compare losers who don't play defense or have a fundamental bone in their body to players every team needs.....

I would take Hinrich and Okafur over these clowns every time, Eddy is always out of shape, always gets hurt, doesn't play defense, and doesn't have a passion for the game......Defense wins in this league the guy blocks shots, rebounds and is a strong defender you don't need points out of every position, he is a poor mans ben wallace

Potential is the worst word in the NBA, because TT has it, JC has it, Eddy has it, blah blah

when I read post like this, it is hard to get anything out of it but hate. You say curry always gets hurt but before this season, he never had a problem with nagging injuries. Okafor seems to be hurt more, espcially with his bad back. You say he doesn't play defense but I think he does, just not that good at it yet, but isn't it fair to say then that Okafor does not play offense? Defense wins championships true, but that is if you defend as a team, because if it was based on individual defensive merit, then answer why the bobcats are so bad, considering Okafors superior defense? I mean isn't their record worse than the knicks?

[Edited by - tkf on 01-25-2006 11:31 AM]

Put Curry on the Bobcats and you think they're better than they are with Okafor? I personally think they're worse without his defensive presence.

Put Okafor on the Knicks and do you think that they're a better team? I do. The Knicks biggest problem, other than Isiah keeping his hands to himself, is on defense and having Okafor backing up the guards would help our perimeter defense as well as in the post. No more layup drills.

Overall, you're looking at 3-5 points more that Curry might get for you on offense. Do you think having Okafor's defense is worth more than that? I do.

that is a cheap shot and nothing to do with this topic, I don't even find it funny, but anyway. I will give you this. curry was on the bulls last year, was their go to guy in the post and led them to the playoffs, even with his defensive deficiencies. Curry misses the playoffs and the bulls get swept. so again can he make a big impact on the bobcats, I will say he can, he has proven he can do so. evidence the bulls. Now tell me what has Okafor done for anyone on this level?

Okafor is on a freaking expansion team and you're going to use that against him since they stink like all expansion teams do? You don't think the Bulls would be just as good with Okafor in the middle surrounded by Hinrich, Gordon, Deng and the others? I think Okafor's size would fix whatever problems the Bulls have.

Bonn, will you PLEEEEEEEEEEEASE just stop with the stats. We all know Curry is a better scorer than Emeka. But Emeka is still the better player. He has a monster work ethic, extremely high IQ, stays in shape, can jump through the roof and is a defensive monster. Plus, he has some nice skills on the offense to add to it. He's basically Alonzo Mourning, at a younger age.

I'm liking Curry now, but his bball IQ is so low, that it's taking him all year just to learn how to score in the post w/o charging into the defense? He can't pass pass in any way, after 4 years in the league? He can't defend the pick and roll after 4 years in the league?

Maybe Curry is the more gifted scorer, but Emeka is just the better overall player. Heck, give me Emeka for Marbury.

I agree that Emeka draw a favorable comparison to Alonzo, but remember in his rookie year Mourning averaged 21 points per in his rookie year...Emeka may be lucky to average that ever...

Per 48 the difference in scoring is 26.1 to 18.9 favoring Curry and that doesn't take into account that Okafor actually takes more shots per 48 than Curry does. But you are right that Okafor is A LOT better than Curry on defense. The difference there is probably bigger than the difference in their offense, although this latter difference is still very big too. The reason I'm reluctant to pick Okafor is that I think he's close to his ceiling; I don't think he'll be more than a very good, non-all-star putting up between 13 and 10 and 16 and 11. (The scoring might go down if he's on a team with more scorers and doesn't get his FG% to a respectable level.) Curry, in contrast, is nowhere near his potential. I know "potential" is a word that's overused. To me, if a player has a lot of skills but over an extended period of time has shown no improvement, then potential is not a useful term to use. But if he's showing continuous improvement, as Curry has primarily in rebounding and drawing free throws (and in conditioning during the season), then it's reasonable to take into account the player's upside based on skill set, work ethic, athletic abilities, etc. I'm not 100% convinced Curry falls into this latter category but I am pleased that his conditioning has improved, his FTAs have improved, and his rebounding has improved this year. It's a small sample, but this month his #s have improved in almost every category.

I stopped reading after "Per 48".

WHAAAAAAATTT??

Emeka doesn't have nice skills on the offense, and he is not Zo at all. ZO came into the league DOMINATING!!!! This was at a time when David Robinson, Pat Ewing, Shaq, Hakeem, Mutumbo, were all playing at extremely high levels. Zo was busting ass.

Emeka cannot dominate this crop of centers, because he is offensively challenged. 41% shooting is horrible for a big man. Its really really bad. Hes shooting the same percentage as Jamal Crawford, and that speaks volumes. He's obviously a really good player and can develop into something truly special, but Curry is no different in that regard, and I think Curry can get closer to what Emaka does than vice versa.

ahh, i never said as good as Emeka. Their games are just somewhat similar, at least in terms of defense. Emeka is soon going to have a very similar impact on the NBA, and his offense might not have much to do with it. I would say Emekas offense is right in the dead set middle of Zos and Ben Wallace's.

Sorry if numbers drive you crazy. I take Tom's position that you can reach the best analysis by watching the games AND looking at objective statistics and that ignoring either of the two pieces of info. isn't helpful. I don't expect everyone to understand numbers and people have the right to ignore them, though.

That comparison is like someone is in between being alive and being dead....it's one extreme to the other (sorry for the exaggeration)...anyway.....I see alot of a younger Theo Ratliff when I look at Emeka. Theo was able to average 10-12 points, great shotblocker and D, and plays were never run for him. Ben had to work to get his offense where it is. Emeka's is markedly better.

Per 24 hours, Bonn averages 12 posts over the last 2 calendar years, including holidays and weekends. That is roughly 4 times more than the typical heavy user poster on Ultimate Knicks and 10 times greater than the average. What are we to make of these numbers?

NO!!! Because the bulls have chandler who is taller, and arguably a better shot blocker and rebounder than Okafor and the bulls are still struggling. Stick with insulting the knicks players, that seems to be your strong point.

The only thing you got right is that Chandler is taller.

Since when is 7 rebs and 1 block better than 10 rebs and 2 blocks. And if you ever watched them play the difference is even more striking.

Thank you Islesfan. Some huge differences between OK4 and Ty and Curry.

OK4 - He played for a top 5 basketball program in the country, while already having an extremely high bball IQ and works like a Wolf. Not to mention he plays like one. It's not the 10 rebounds and 2 blocks, it's the impact. Soon, OK4 is gonna help catapult that unknown team in Charlotte to playoff contention. They are building the entire franchise around him and he has no question marks. He's going to be at LEAST a star, boarderline superstar, franchise talent.

Ty Chandler has a low bball IQ bball player, no offensive skills, who loafs around a lot. If this wasn't the case, he wouldn't have been pushed out of the starting lineup. He, like Curry, came straight from HS, and clearly, more times than not, it really hurts a players foundation when that occurs. Look at Ty and Curry. NO FUNDAMENTALS. They don't know how to play, nor do they know how to get a good work ethic going. Maybe Chandler has some raw talent, but compared to OK4, he's nothing.

Curry is JUST starting to learn, and his bball IQ is clearly THAT low, that the team is taking things one thing at a time. He still charges into the defense, and can't pass AT ALL. He's all raw talent with no foundation.

OK4 has a foundation, and it's going to be used to his advantage his entire career.

The people who say they'd take Curry over OK4 must be joking me, b/c I guarantee they wouldn't have said they same while he was on the Bulls.

I'm not one of those who voted for Curry (although I have some 2nd thoughts about my vote!). However, I think you're statement is unfair. Curry is showing rebounding intensity, aggressiveness leading to FTAs, and effort on defense that he didn't show in Chicago. He has an enormous way to go still, but when he was in Chicago, I questioned whether he cared enough to improve. I question that much less now.

I watch both Tyson and Okafor play, Chandler is even more of a defensive force than Okafor because of his length and quickness, his stats are down, he has had some health issues this year, but put up 15/14 just the other night. He is a legit seven footer, height wise and really set the tone for the bulls defense last year...

To call Okafor a Bordeline star without any legitimate basis to merit such a comment, makes no sense.... If you are basing it on defense then why can't we say the same about chandler, and forget this low IQ crap, how can you prove that?

Curry, Nate and Crawford prove it every game. Curry still doesn't know how to defend the pick and roll. Nate is beyond description and hope. And Crawford has no clue how to get around screens or play half court defense to save his life. Not to mention the stupid mistakes that they seem to make every game.
If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System

Here's a good question. Who do you take. Curry or Dalembert? Dalembert is avg'ing 9 points 10 rebounds and 3.5 blocks shooting 56%.
Random Comparison: Eddy or Emeka?
