The west is not stronger than the east now. It's about even.

oh man, we would get CRUSHED with the 8th seed vs Detroit, but boy would that make some fodder for the papers.

Playoffs, even a crush is needed for the development of this team.

We need to make it, then we need to experience it. Even if it hurts. With a young team, its important. With Isiahs year 1 gazyman team, it was a set back.

Larry Vs. Detroit. Makes for good television!

the old saying: "you wanna be the man, you gotta play the man!"

We're not better than Philly and Orlando owns us.

The talent is here. It's just a matter of staying healthy and developing a consistent rotation.

true for damn near every team at the bottom.

I was going to say- anyone who thinks we can make the play offs is on crack!

But, sizing things up- all we have to do is play decent basketball and put together a stretch of at least one five game winning streak.

Are the pieces there- yes- we just need to play consistent- with effort every night.

i remember in 90/91, riley's first year, where we made the playoffs and faced the pistons in the first round. we beat them in 5, then came across the bulls. EVERYONE and their mother thought we were going to get swept. but we pushed them to 7 and the knicks never turned back as a franchise for another 10 years.

yup, we'd get crushed right now...but if we make it, then that means we'd be playing better. and with the whole lb/pistons thing, i think we would put up a much tougher fight than anticipated. we may not win a game or possibly 1, but we won't get crushed.

I'd have to agree that IF we make the playoffs, it means we're playing well- consequently, I don't think we'd necessarialy be blown out.

Difference in making the playoffs this year vs. marbs 1st year is that this is the core group of young players we're hoping to turn into part of a championship team- if Lee, Nate, Crawford, Curry & Frye get blown out by 20 pts four games straight, it should motivate them for years to come.

i said "as the phoenix suns are NOW" or in other words without stoudamire, the 19-11 suns, not the 22-4 or whatever they were last season at this point suns, and phoenix isnt really all that much better than us, they didnt win by very much the last time we played them, and the second time they played us they lost altogether. although on paper they are alot better than us.

I understand completely what you said. They still have 2 players better than our best right now. All their role players are pretty much as good or better than ours right now. And they have a much better record in a much better conference right now.

oohah

just because a team has better players, it doesnt necessarily make them a better team. its all about execution when they play. Tmac and Yao are 2 of the top players in the league and look at how they are doing.

real terrible example.

Hou has been re-habbing 1 or the other for most of the season.

both have been on the floor for like 13 gams and they are 9-4 in those games.

Even with one of those players, that team should be much better considering Tmac is a top5 talent in the league and Yao is a top15 talent.

Would the Wizards be a better example for you?? How about Seattle??? the kings?? Or how about a team like Charlotte, with no stars, being better than us, raps, and Hawks.

I hate to be too optimisitc, but the Phoenix game was the kind of win that could spark a nice run. This team needed a confidence boost and needed the experience of finally closing out a game, and closing one out against a good team (however hard it was). Maybe they'll start to put it together and pick up some wins in bunches.

So you think the knicks are better than the Suns regardless of better players and record?

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

if we give them fits everytime we play them and are pretty successful against them(means having a winning record against them), then yes.

The Knicks have a winning record Vs. the Suns?

Anyway, even if that were true, all it really means is that the Knicks did/do well against a particular team. How good a team is is not determined by their records against each other, but by their overall success against the entire NBA.

do you see the IF there?? they are currently 1-1 i believe, but if the knicks go on to beat them again, then yes they are a better team than the suns, but not necessarily better than another team who plays differently.

the season series with the Suns is over

East West teams only play twice a year.

Holy smoke this is getting ridiculous!

The Knicks are 1 and 1 against the Suns by the grace of a skin-of-their-teeth triple overtime win.

If or no if, the Knicks as presently configured are not better than the Suns with or without Amare Stoudamire! Come on already! Are you serious?

but if the knicks go on to beat them again, then yes they are a better team than the suns, but not necessarily better than another team who plays differently.

It is not about another team that "plays differently", we are talking about performance vs. the entire NBA!

Second, We won't go on to beat them again this year because Western/Eastern conference teams only play 2 times a year, one game at either team's home court. So in order for the Knick's record against the Suns to be of any relevance at all, the Knicks would have to be good enough to get to the finals. The Knicks aren't even good enough to make the playoffs, no matter how well they do vs. the Suns.

Barring a disaster the Suns will be in the playoffs, so you tell me who is better.

It does not matter if one team sweeps another or what their records are vs. any single given team. That is a sidebar that means nothing, except maybe in the playoffs. What counts is your overall record!

Geez louise!

Though I'm also hoping the Knicks can turn some sort of corner and make a run for the playoffs, let's not get crazy here.

They ESCAPED in THREE overtimes against the Suns, who still don't have their best player, and of their remaining wins, one was in OT vs. Philly and the win vs. Seattle was a very close game. Let's not get crazy here, let's see them win 2 in a row before we start writing them into the playoffs.

yes

i guess Miami outscoring memphis by 19 was a fluke.. i guess the bucks losing to utah twice(once by 20) was also a fluke, as well losing to the clippers by 24.
