The irony is, Isiah does only one thing well: draft. He stinks at trades and free agency signings.

He should be a scout.

This used to be said of Layden! Interesting.

I have to acknowledge, however, that Isiah probably would have drafted Amare, and definitely wouldn't have traded Camby.

How many "kids" do we need to develope? Let then grow and fill in with some right pieces.

at least 10

the Jimmy Johnson method for rebuilding a dead in the water franchie is the A-1 model.

Jimmy Johnson had a squad of 50+ in a sport where the average lifespan if less than 5 years

West was hired in 02.

President of Basketball Operations, Memphis Grizzlies (2002 — present; announced on April 30, 2002)

03-04 Grizz win 50 and make the play-offs (both franchise firsts)
04-05 Grizz win 47 and make it again (back-2-back post-seasons)
05-06 Grizz are presently 16-9 (.640win %, no. 1 defensive team in the NBA)

It didn't hurt that he had Gasol and Battier from the 2001 draft

the point is he had them and he got them by plan (trading Walker the big move).

How many people in the NBA make it past their rookie contract? What the average age NBA players retire at?

Life span of a football player is not a stump in comparison. Redskins have a 43 year old tackle on their squad as we speak. There are and have been many football players playing well into their mid to late 30's.

I dont agree you need 10 draft picks to rebuild, but to burn a high lottery pick--likely two when you couldve been patient was just a tremendous mistake. Where was Eddy Curry going without a DNA test or insurance? The Bulls offered hom 20 MILLION NOT TO PLAY.

Having two or three high lottery picks is critical, especially for a team so capped out. You control costs for 4 YEARS, pick out the talent YOU want and bring them along the way YOU want them to. And then there is the possibility of an NBA mega star like Shaq putting a stink up. If it makes sense, a team with 3-4 young guys might be willing to part with 2 of them to get a guy who can automaticaly change your franchise.
Right now we are capped out with guys that dont mesh, WONT mesh dont have insurance so they are hard to trade. The NBA thinks the Knicks are a dumping ground. Unless a trade is a no-brainer, they'be better off holding what they have and dealing with it, hopefully stumbling accross a deal where they can dump someone. So many guys from isiah to Larry Brown to the coahces are on different pages, I dont think anything good will happen, even though we enjoy TWICE++ the monetary advantage over 95% of the nBA.

Restricted free agency is a great thing for teams. Really it lets you evalaute a guy for 4 years and control costs. What team waste their time signing a NY RFA? How many rookies actually get max contracts? Only a few--its hard to turn down that 4th year offer. Guys who deserve max contracts are nBA impact players, no one else.

Its nice to inherit talent. Picking at the top of the draft is the easiest way to acquire it. Its harder to put a team arund the talent. West is the one who did that. He is the one who traded W. Person for Bonzi Dec 03 and Gooden for Mike Miller at the trade deadline in Feb 03. He is the one who signed Posey as a free-agent b/4 the 03 season. He traded Bibby for Williams which he flipped along with Bonzi into Jones and Bobby Jax and signed Stoudamire to the mid for the 05 season.

This used to be said of Layden! Interesting.

People said that of his picks for Utah, but he never drafted well for us.

We traded the picks!

Your life, your game, this year, your career,
it's the law,
Bad game, so what?
the game is made for the home courts,
from the home of Coney Isle,
you ARE Brook'nam's finest,

Marbs, Where you at? The whole city behind you!
Knicks, Where you at? The whole city behind you!
