I'm actually just curious to see the % of teams that go through rebuilding, actually end up winning championships within 5 years of their rebuilding project.

I can't name 1..

Yeah Slim and TKF.. I'm having trouble remembering any as well. I mean look at the Hawks, they've been rebuilding for god knows how long. The Bulls have been rebuilding for 7-8 years with nothing to show for it besides a early playoff exit last year. Not to many teams have alot of success doing this. Teams have to get lucky, like the Spurs when DRob gets hurt for one year and they suck so they get Duncan, or the Lakers pulling off a big trade for Shaq. It's a tough situation.

yeah and I will admit, the pistons actually did wind up getting cap room, although the article doesnt explain exactly how they got it. but basically the lesson that I learned from this article is that we should trade for players that fit LB's system at any cost.

Did they fully cut their payroll to do it though and it wasn't with young players. They just patched a bunch of key role players together and it worked out.

They didnt rebuild. They were a good team the year Robinson got hurt. They got lucky that he got hurt and they sucked the same year Tim Duncan was coming out. Thats not rebuilding.

but it's still landing the #1 pick and landing a true franchise player

I rather be cleveland, denver, phoenix, dallas, clippers than the Knicks right now

Now your not even talking about the same thing we were talking about... THe Spurs didn't rebuild, we're talking about teams that rebuilt and won a championship within 5 years. I'm sorry but the Spurs don't fit the bill.

mediocre and overpaid gets you nowhere. trading picks for the likes of Mo Taylor and overpaying JJ is not a good thing

Rebuilding is usually classified as tearing it down. The Spurs didn't tear it down, they won 50 something games the year before Robinson got hurt and they got the #1 pick. There were hardly any changes to the roster other then Robinson getting hurt. It's called luck, they didn't rebuild.

Listen thats fine. BUT we're not talking about that. We WERE having a discussion about teams that tore things down and rebuilt their rosters. Obviously everyone wants Duncan but the Spurs didn't rebuild, they got lucky enough to have a injury to their best player to get him, that's not rebuilding. San Antonio isn't a valid argument.

how about milwalkee, denver, phoenix, dallas, lakers, detroit, miami...those teams are where they are today because of capspace and and lottery picks. We value trading away a pick for Mo Taylor more than we value lottery picks and adding salary with Mo and JJ instead of trying to get under the cap and acquiring late 1st & 2nd round picks

Are you reading anything I've said? We were talking about rebuilding and winning a championship within 5 years. Milwaukee has been rebuilding forever, same goes for Dallas and the same goes for Miami. That is what we WERE talking about.

Milwaukee traded away Allen, Robinson, Baker, TT. Dallas drafted Nash and Dirk. Miami used capspace to acquire Odom then traded for Shaq and drafted Wade and Caron.
