People always assume that things will continue the way they are. True this team is not the most balanced team around, but it could be less balanced. Our biggest problems are defensive and offensive continuity. Defense is a obviously a bigger concern. Time will cure this. We dont have the smartest players around, but we do have the consensus best coach in the league and some talented, if flawed, pieces. I think we will be fine, and will get at least to .500 or better.
.500 or better by the end of the season.
Under .500 by the end of the season.

It's amazing how some people view .500 to be some kind of success. Go back to the season prediction thread. Hell, even I predicted them to be close to .500.

do you think that the knicks should be a contender by now?

My vote tied it. I think we'll play better than .500, but we really dug a deep hole.

its a process, how many times does that have to be beat into your head. when was the last time the knicks ended the season a .500 team? how many years? if we could do it now, its a step in the right direction, we have many youths who are getting better. next year we would build on that to improve over .500.

not to mention we have a new coach, a new system, and rookies getting big minutes.

So after 3 years we're supposed to be excited about the fact that we could be a .500 team if we play really well the last 49 games?

It's called setting a foundation.

many of our players learned NOTHING from their previous coaches. they now have finally started to learn how to play basketball the right way with Brown. nothing is perfect, but yes there is progress. when you get a new coach, you have to look at it as a clean slate. if anything, be mad that we had herb and lenny leading the way for the first 2 years. i just dont see how you can still be dissappointed with what is going on. they are getting noticably better, not many teams can ever boast that. now they are finally learning, and its a new system(did we even have a system the last 2 years besides just go out and play?). we look like a real team, problems and flaws are being addressed(for once). one of the top rebounding teams, one of the top points in the paint teams, one of the top getting to the line teams. if we get our defense down(what brown is known for improving) that is what championship teams are made of. yes, i'm excited, how can you not be?

I think they will reach .500 and as far as do I see going .500 as some type of success yes I do. Come on now. Larry Brown's first year as Knicks coach. 3 rookies on the team playing major minutes. One of the worst starts in franchise history and then for the team to get to .500, and in true honesty I believe if the Knicks finish 41 - 41 that will be enough to get into the playoffs in the East, I would mark the last 54 games as a successful 54 games. GO KNICKS!

How about after three years were excited about the longest winning streak in 5 years? The best young center we've had since Ewing? The best trio of rookies we've had since the 60s? If you can't get excited about this team and can't see what it's turning into right in front of all of our eyes then I'm sorry you're missing it.

we're 13-21. Is is so outrageous to believe that we can go 28-20 (.583) the rest of the way? It's doable and its a playoff spot. Not crazy and probaby a 6-7 seed in the East.

We have won 6 games straight over some of the hottest teams in the league. Dallas looked horrible against us. I don't think you want to play the Knicks if you are any other team in the league right now. We have Toronto, Minny and Chicago before we face Detroit in the Garden. How intense will that game be if we are 17-21 at that point coming off 10 straight, within a game of the #8 spot? There is no reason to think we can't make a run at .500 if you've watched the change in this team. The hope though has to be that we can make it to the #6 seed so that we might be able to make a run in the playoffs.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)
