Notes: Brown was still offering examples of the Knicks' inability to grasp basic concepts before the game. "One guy asked me, 'Well, how do I know the time?' '' he said while discussing recent shot-clock violations. "I said, 'Well, it's usually on top of the backboard.' I never thought I'd have to have that kind of response, but you just can't take anything for granted." ... Marbury had 18 points in the first half, but took only two shots in 20 minutes after the break. Who might be the rocket scientist we can attibute the quote to?

I'm pretty happy Larry told the media about this. These players are not being held accountable for themselves out on the court. I still don't understand how players can leave shooters wide-open for 3's when they have been making them all night long. Thats not coaching, thats STUPID basketball players. They deserve to be run in the mud in the media like Larry did.

That may be true, but what is really scary is that we weren't making these mistakes in the beginning. We were playing very good defense prior to the last 3 games. Now, if Larry's comments have something to do with the players lack of effort, then Brown is not helping his cause venting this to the media. Have some players given up on Brown in part because of these types of comments he makes to the media? One can only wonder...

Everybody thinks we were playing defense but doesn't everyone remember how poorly the other teams were shooting? They were just missing shots. Every team we've played this year has been able to shoot open 3s at will.

I don't think they'd quit on him Knicksfan, I think they'd try harder. Like Knight said before, this is the NBA not a small-town league where guys ego's are fragile. These guys are getting paid millions of dollars to perform under Larry Brown and do what he says and how he wants to run things and fact is, this team is failing miserably aside from from a very few select guys.

Before this comment Larry hadn't really said anything to the media about players, he might have made a comment here or there but nothing on the same par as this tone so I can't imagine why players would have quit on him. Hey if these guys quit then I'll be at MSG to open the door for them as Isiah trades them to new destinations becuase the New York Knicks are not about quitting, never have been and they never will be.

knight, that is a great point, I watch the hawks a lot living here in Atlanta, and believe me, Al harrington and Joe Johnson are not that good as they showed last night, I mean JJ was taking fadeway 3's, he was so open and relaxed, knicks just don't know how to defend the 3 point line... it is sickening..

Give me a break. The fact that we have played like garbage defensively the last 3 games isn't a reason to forget the great defensive performances this team had during the first 19 games. During one stretch where we won many games, it was our defense that set the tone. We weren't Detroit od San Antonio, but they were doing a good job staying in front of their man and making them shot tough shots. Right now we are doing absolutely nothing on defense. Teams just score at will. We have regressed on D, because we were playing it much, much better than now...

Yeah, LB has run this team through the ringer too many times via the newspapers, it could be coming back to haunt him now.

Well, maybe the guys were told by IT to give up these last few games so IT can have a reason to fire LB, to save his own butt.

What a conspiracy theory that would be, but I highly doubt that that is the case.

Their not playing Defense now thats for sure and I don't think it has anything to do with Larry Brown. I think it has to do with the team not having a leader out on the court to pull them through the tough times. Look at the Nets, they were playing horrible and Richard Jefferson went straight to the papers and called the team a bunch of pu$$ies and Kidd reamed the whole team out. The Knicks DON'T HAVE THIS. I love Marbury but he is doing nothing to help this team through the tough times and thats a big problem becuase no one else on this team is stepping up and taking the challange either.

Players react different ways to the kind of pressure Brown is putting on them. Its a good pressure because they are learning and should be getting better with it, but at one point many of them could just get frustrated and not try anymore to follow their coach's demmands. It really seems that way the last 3 games they have played. It was so evident how much they were improving the first 19 games, yet now we see nothing good about them. Absolutely nothing. Even Brown seems resigned, and even if we lost many of those games, Brown was still happy the Knicks were showing improvement in the first games.

I do hope they haven't given up, but they surely aren't playing harder than they were before. They probably read the news and read these comments by Brown. Most of the time after a game, Brown does says many bad things about his players. He has vented many things to the media that may not be necessary to mention. The point is that you no longer read quotes from players like, "we want to play well for Coach", "I'll don anything Coach asks". They were saying this in the beginning. Now, it just seems like they don't care anymore...

They sure look like they've given up to me. Honestly, I would expect some kind of major trade fairly soon. If history is any guide, Isiah won't put up with this carp for too much longer.

Thats a good point, but that may just be part of the equation to why the Knicks are playing so bad. I love that Brown is coach of the Knicks but I do think he is responsible too for this. Just think about it, Marbury hasn't really become the leader this team needs him to be, and that has been the whole season. Yet, its now when the Knicks start playing so poorly. Even with no leader, they had played with effort on the first games. Not anymore, unfortunately...

I think the biggest problem is that there is no leader for the players. Antonio Davis can't be the leader since is on borrowed time with the Knicks, same goes for Malik. The true leader on this team has to come from Marbury/Crawford/Frye/Curry and most notably Marbury since he is the best player on this team and all he's doing right now is sulking on the court and I really think its taking a effect on his teammates. Stephon HAS TO BE the leader of this team and he's not. Like I said, I love Stephon, he's my favorite player but not player comes before the team with me and right now Stephon is doing a terrible job as "Best Knick"

I think this is happening now with the effort becuase the season is long and it starts to take a toll on the players, especially the losing and this is the time when they look towards a leader to show them through the dark passage and into the light but thast obviously not happening. LB can only do so much, the players have to be accountable for themselves as a team and step up.

theres a shot clock in JUCO as well.

Curiously in the past 2.5 yrs aka the Marbury years NY has been a terrible team when it comes to clock management...

And yet you are like clockwork with the hatred.

I would actually like to change my prediction to Quintel. Nate makes a lot of dumb mistakes, but I sense that he looks like Einstein next to Qdog.
