I think the comparison is fine.....I remember Smith before he got here. That's why he was under so much fire. He was clearly damaged goods. He walked like he was laboring. He played small fwd though? Riley was a nut but Smith was the real deal in LA. I still hate the dude. I might not shake his hand if I was introduced to him, lol....just kidding.
Riley traded for a lot of damaged goods back then. Tony Cambell was a prolific scorer with the T-Wolves but never played well in NY. Blackman came off a 18pt per game year and just came to NY to retire.
Frye will be good. The Kid looks strong and fit.
NYPost: By ANDREW MARCHAND
November 22, 2005 -- Growing up, Channing Frye had no coordination. With his limbs rapidly expanding — by the seventh grade, he was as tall as his 6-foot-2 dad — he was a gangly kid. He couldn't even run backwards, he said, until he got to high school.
This all makes what he is doing now as a 22-year-old rookie more remarkable.
Frye's 49 field goals are tied for second on the Knicks, which is pretty amazing because he received a DNP, coach's decision, in the season opener
.
Stephon Marbury leads the team with 58 baskets, but he has played 200 more minutes (392-to-192) than Frye
.
^^^^^ Tell me why that projects to be about 90-100 field goals if Frye got Marbs minutes, lol........impressive
