Duncan had a two big advantages when he came into the league. He was playing alongside a HOFer who got most of the defensive attention and was coming onto a quality team which was in a position to draft him because of Robinson's injury and the luck of the draw.

Great point. Frye is starting to look like the real deal. I had posted on an earlier thread like this that if he had Horace Grant-type numbers we should be happy. He is looking to be way better than him and I don't think the Duncan comparison is that far off.

Thing with Tim is he has strong fundamentals- good footwork, technique, etc. Frye is showing some of that kind of smoothness.

And yes, he needs to start because, to my basketball eye, he is the best front court player we have, better than curry.

Could he be ROY?

Frye at this point in time is 1 tier below Duncan and is very close Sheed. Frye's skills are so unique for a big man it's scary. He has a little bit of Duncan, Sheed and Camby in him.

Yup, but that is only on big knick fans opinion.

look, i am glad that everyone is happy about frye, i really am. but to compare him to duncan is ridiculous. saying duncan played with another HOFer is a mute point since he won without robinson. duncan is probably the second best post up player i have ever seen besides maybe hakeem the dream. now i have been watching the nba since the 80's and seen some good post up players from robert parish to shaq and he is better than all of them. with that said, i love how frye is getting better and learning. he is still inconsistent but by february he will have a major impact in most games. he will start next to curry by then. he reminds me more of alan henderson pre injury. now before everyone jumps on my case, henderson was on the road to having a nice career. he had nice range and was very athletic around the basket. he ran the floor like a gazelle and was a good weak side defender who swatted shots. it did help that he had mutumbo starting next to him be his numbers were good. injuries was his problem.

Alan Henderson is an undersized PF. Frye is almost 7'. From what I remember he wasn't a very good shot blocker and not a very good rebounder.
