Successful Scenario
Due to New York and Portland being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. New York and Portland had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Miles is a punk along the lines of Ruben Patterson and Bonzi Wells. Talented guys who you don't really need or want. They don't win, and they screw up the team's chemistry. No thanks.
We could be the Dallas Mavs of the East.

Keep our homegrown players! He's the draft pick we had here the longest, and he plays his butt off for this team.

STARIZA stays!!
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

I've said it before and I'll say it again...

most Knick fans don't actually grasp what this team needs.

Most are only interested in quick fixes, despite the fact that they'd most likely end up regretting it in the future.

Laydumb was all about quick fixes. Bring in vet players that have already established themselves. That way, we'll WIN!

Or how about let's bring in a player that doesn't actually serve a need.

Darius Miles is 1 such player. He's all lights and shadows and mirrors. Even if he continues to play well for Portland, it's only b/c they're featuring him as their "franchise player". The guy is playing like 35-40 Minutes a night.

Ariza is a poor man's Miles. Anything good Miles could contribute so does Ariza, only he's not a nutcase and not nearly as expensive.

The guys we should be looking at are Shane Battier types. A Mr. Intangibles.

Orr.....if it involves trading Marbury.... a Top 5 wingman ala Kobe-esque.

There are only 2 ways to win a championship in this league --

Have the best defense

Or the best player.

Curry may never be the best player, but he could easily end up being the most dominant. Couple him with his own "Kobe", and NOW we're talkin. My dream for this team is for Isiah to build this team just like the 3-peat Lakers.

Establish Curry as your "Shaq".
Bring in a "Kobe"
Surround them with solid role players

That's the only way we're gonna win a championship, b/c unless we get EXTREMELY fortunate and start landing All-Team defenders at every position, we're gonna have to go with the Kobe-Shaq formula.

It's riskier, but atleast I know we already have 1/2 the forumla in place....
DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

Rasheed Wallace used to be considered all the negative things you are saying about Miles...

Honestly, this is the type of short-sighted, quick-fix trade we should avoid like the plague. The big picture is getting rid of the crap on our roster and trying to move to more reasonable contracts/ bang-for-the-buck talent. Keeping bloated salary on the books for questionable "potential" has not worked out for us in recent years...

I think the difference there is that the Pistons arent built around Sheed, he was the guy that put them over the top but they are built around Ben, Billups, Prince and Rip. If the Knicks went out and acquired Miles they would have no choice but to build their team around him and I don't think he's that type of player, especially with his extremely iffy trackrecord so far to date.

I agree with NotFrye, Miles is the kind of the guy that the Knicks have been taking chances on and have gotten burnt, I think Isiah has officially changed the ways by taking smart players who have been coached extremely well in college(Frye, Lee and Nate) and I dont think he should sway from that at all.

difference b/w Sheed and Miles is that Sheed was consistently a 20 and 10 type of guy in Portland and at Carolina.

Miles hasn't proven **** yet.

We could always try adding talent just to add it (bang for you buck theory), but I still think the "Kobe & Shaq" formula is the only one thats gonna work for US.

Hey Bobs, I agree with you fully BUT... Sheed was never once a 20 and 10 player. He's never averaged anywhere close to 10 boards a game and has averaged 20 points once.

The ariza you see now is a shadow of the player he will become in 2-3 yrs. He will continue developing as a player and if he gets a consistent outside shot he will be a star.
fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate

You lost me there. We'd still have Marbury, Curry, Frye, Ariza, and many other talented players to build around. Miles would just be one more piece.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Curry, Frye, or Craw would all come ahead of him.
