I think Nate is VERY Reckless with the ball. That's my first impressions of him.

overrating...
underrating...
warranted...
unwarranted...

at the end of the day, the only thing we should care about is whether or not nate helps us.

when i see nate, i see a guy that's all out hustle and a little out of control...but he's a ROOKIE. so it's all good for now. i see a player DIVING for every loose ball out there and a guy that breaks down defenses with his dribble penetration. i believe that he'll be a good player for us.

that is the kind of stuff that gets Nate energized to play harder, stronger and much better

maybe you can go to every game and tease him and call him Gary Coleman, and he can show you what kind of game he has.

Remember Allen Iverson is his idol

Yes, Nate sucks, Lets just cut him now. I mean what was IT thinking when he got him. I mean it is already clearly obvious that he can't play. The fact that was great in the summer and has been good in preseason only means he is a tease. Cause Killa said so and Bonnie (who I have never heard post an opinion of his own) decided to latch on.

Cut him now, what a freakin joke this thread is.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

agreed. but he will get better. You can't teach hustle & heart! Don't forget he has arguably the best PG coach in the nba in Larry Brown teaching him

Nobody said that Nate sucked. He's just extremely overrated, especially on this board. Have you read some of the stuff that's been said about him? I'm not a big Marbury fan but Nate can't carry his jock much less take his spot at PG.

Like Bonn said, he's just an energetic change of pace bench player who doesn't have the PG skills to play the 1 and isn't nearly big enough or a good enough shooter to play the 2.

Nobody says that Nate can't play in the NBA and doesn't have a role but that doesn't change the fact that he's still incredibly overrated.

how do you overrate pick 21?

Which of these are FALSE:
Nate will make the roster
Nate will play a meaningfull role as a backup this year
Nate's play will translate more into wins than losses
Nate the player is more valuable asset than the draft pick used on him

The 3rd is yet to be determined, but to me the other 3 are 100% TRUE.

Sounds like a good pick to me

Me and Islesfan are in total agreement on this. How crazy is that?

This thread is nuts. I don't love the guy, but he plays his ars off, has shown some nice skills, has a decent shot when he can get it off, and he can take it to the rack. He needs to learn the NBA game and control himself a little. What's overrating about that? I think there are a couple people who said he's the rookie of the year, which is ridiculous, but hey, there are the extremeists as well as the realists. Nate will be fine. Not sure how well he'll do THIS season, but I think at the end of the day, Nate will probably be good enough to be a starter at some points, and will be more than just an energy player. He's a part of our core. Lets welcome him instead of jumping on a friggin' rookies back who hasn't even played a regular season game yet. Sheesh.

SAR is a Net. Its a done deal, remember that? LOL!!!

Honestly, he should try to be less of a jerk, and try to be a little less sensitive.

Afterall, didn't I just post some Bynum pictures for him? You would think that those pics and little cocoa butter would have occupied him for a good little while.

Guess not.

Whether he is a good pick or not is irrelevant. I thought when he was picked he was a good pick, and could provide a good spark off the bench.

The discussion is about whther he is over-rated or not.

Nate as rookie of the year is ridiculous for several reasons, playing time is one of them.

After actually watching him play in all of the televised games, I think he has a longer way to go than I originally thought.

If I make the above statement and people respond by making personal attacks, I would say he is definitely over-rated. I think I made a fair, if incomplete, assessment of him in my opening post.

then I am lost. Whats your point? Who's saying he's going to be a star or even crack the SL? People are talking about him being exciting, about him being an impact player and about him being a very good pick at 21. Is that overrating him? Is anyone else saying something different?

At least one poster called him a rising all-star (can't remember who). Briggs called him a mini-wade. That all sounds like someone who will crack the starting lineup!

Make it known, if Nate were Wades size, he would be just as good. He has the skills and certainly athleticism. It's a fair comparison. But b/c he is MINI, he probably wont crack an all star team. For now, he's a nice spark off the bench who can play 15 - 20 minutes a game. Maybe he'll eventually play 30 MPG and could be a starter. But I really don't see who's overrating him right now. He's a fun player to watch. Nobody is saying he's a star.
