It doesn't matter how the system works, anyone who is doing what Stern is doing is wrong.

You summed it up right there. Translation: I don't like the decision, despite being a player making millions and millions of dollars, so I'm going to complain.

Find a PROFESSIONAL job where this argument would hold up in and we have a discussion. NBA players are paid professionals. Again, time to grow up.

What is a "PROFESSIONAL" job? I know many non-business-casual professional jobs: Baseball, Hockey, Football, Soccer...

DOn't confuse religion with Culture. Big difference.

So alan would not have been able to play on the knicks the last two years under Isiah?

Isiah and other teams have done this year years. Many High Schools require certain game day dress. As do colleges teams.

This code of dress is not a Stern thing and a stern thing only.

There have been activity off the court that is not all that different than that of gangsters and if the buying public can't tell the difference, they have an image problem.

And even if its WHITE america that has a problem, its been WHITE america then that has been supporting the the league all these years. And IF its WHITE CORP america investing millions in nameing rights and sponserships, then thats where the big money is coming from.

Here is my Cracker take, I like black basketball players. I am white. I have no problem with it. But I don't like Carmelo cuz he hangs out with drug dealers and has been on a DVD with some real criminal type. Standing there he looked just like one of them! I like drinking pepsi. They pay 10 mil a year to play in the pepsi center. I see then that Pepsi like supporting drug dealers! What a fine company. Get it. Think whitey wants to drink pepsi now?

Iverson looks like Flava Flave. I don't like groups that are angry toward white people and sing about it. But I can live with it. But I don't have to like Iverson, and I don't have to watch him. That makes the NBA less money! I like allan the basketball player, but not hearing he chased his wife naket down the street with a gun. Seems like criminals do that. and alan dresses like the STEREOTYPICAL ganster criminal. Is that his culture? What is the HIP HOP culture? OR reliious significance? To they preach peace love and tolerance? Forgiveness? Or is the culture about Adding spinners to the cars and dressing baggy with real expensive (looking) chains that demonstrate what? What is the chain about? The $50,000 chain? That I got So much money that I don't care? Is the white man so not careing about his money he gonna dump it into wheels and chains? Is this the culture? Cus this is what the sterotypical white cant tell anymore. They see players on Cribs looking like rap artists who llook like gangsters. And they are threatend, and are put off by it. Thats the reality of IMAGE!

So what is so precious about the way allan dresses that is so threating to his culture? And what is the culture all about? Cuz if your gonna defend this strike down by Stern, you might want to expalain how this "expression" is good for business now?

Maybe well dressed players will still get in trouble, but at least the corp. sponsers won't confuse them with 50 cent anymore!

The white man is the NBA public. Right or wrong, thats how it is. White people buy more tix than Black people. Looka the garden, Met life ain't ganster? American express ain't ganster! These folks don't want to see bling! Get it? Does it help to invest in a $50,000 chain, or a Mutual fund?

I don't make this up, but the rules for now dictate a change.

I don't know what it means. Maybe it is an injustice. But if so, on the scale of injustices in this world, this one is insignificant.

It's like if someone from India played in the NBA and Stern ordered him not to be able to wear a turban after or before a game or on company time--but had to dress "business casual". It's insulting to the person from that culture.

thats a horrible example. turbans are used for religion. wearing 'thug' clothes has nothing to do with anything(except image). its time to grow up and wear big peolpes clothes.

If you still don't get it: Imagine if Nascar had mandated that Richard Petty had to dress "business casual" and couldn't have worn his hat or blue jeans after or before the race or during any Nascar sanctioned events--it wouldn't have ever happened. Regardless of how many blacks are uncomfortable watching Nascar and all the ignorant rednecks that are involved in Nascar they will never mandate a dress code to boost "business".

It doesn't matter if turbans are used for religion--it's unrelated to "business" which everyone is emphasizing. In any case, for some people their traditions are their religion--and their tradition is a certain way of dressing.

How is wearing a baseball hat or a basketball jersey "thug"? Big people clothes? It's stupid to say everyone who doesn't dress business casual is immature--the most immature people I know walk around in suits, immersed in their own vanity, caring only about acquiring more toys and property.

Very good post, Nalod.

Exactly the point I was trying to make. I'm glad that you guys 'get it', as they say.

Bottom line is that the NBA is a business. If software engineers came into my company dressed like 'thugs' and the customer saw them, they'd be fired the same day. Why should the rules be different for NBA players?
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.
