We used to argue whose falut it was that the team sucked. I am long remembered for defending layden as someone who was told to do a job with a limited objective. He made some bad moves, but did not have the lattidude to buy his way out, nor did his manaagement support him. He was told to get high charactor guys and "WIN NOW". With that, the Dice deal was done. He had to deal with the end results of the Ewing debacle. I thought there were no more panic moves after and we were set for a very long rebuild process. I thought he was a bad hire to begin with and that unless you change the thinking at the top, you can't make any changes. Its obvious we changed our thinking and was suprised layden was let go mid season and not that just Isiah was hired, but the budget was increased as it has!
Its easier to just say "layden sucks". I will defend my position.
Yes, its much much better now.
We have both Hope and deliverence!
Nalod I understand your point, and to a point it is true. BUT you have to remember at one time, Layden had an open check book and we ended up with HUGE contracts for Eisley, Weatherspoon, Harrington, Anderson, Van Horn, and McDyess when he was hurt and Houston's contract. Dolan had every right and EVERY reason to pull in the reigns on Layden.
He didn't pull it after Isiahs first debacle (33 wins), and we kept our picks rather than panic.
Remember my core arguement is not to back Layden. I said he was a bad hire to begin with. He also had to parlay Rices bad contract into something. We were going down fast and furious. A trio of a healthy Dice-Spree-H20 with the right role players back then was not a bad idea. A risk, a gamble it was. Mixed with a directive to get high character players from the owner.
In retrospect, it was a disaster. And so far (remember it was about THEN), Nene has yet to be able to carry the franchise. And Denver passed over Amare twice.
It happens. Better things ahead!
